These high-performance wagons really are fast. We just left Messer today, but we should reach Rent tomorrow. And since we’ll be getting there past noon, if we’re in a hurry, we don’t even have to stop there.
I want to stop by the Tenso village, but I think we can skip Rent.
The others might want to take it easy in an inn though, so we still need to discuss it. But there’s another important matter before that. Cooking coaching.
I say that, but it’s mostly just Rurika, Chris, and Mia teaching my countrymen simple stuff, with Sera also helping when needed.
And me? I guess I’m teaching too, with Hikari. We’re teaching Argo’s party, mostly Guilford.
The others seem somewhat interested, but aren’t very proactive about it.
βIt must be tough.β
I say without thinking.
βYou get it…β
He sounds serious.
I’m just teaching Guilford simple flavoring today.
It’s adventurer cooking anyway. It’s never supposed to be very intricate.
Everyone has their magic bags or item bags, so they can carry ingredients. But of course, they don’t do as good a job keeping them fresh as my Item Box.
Argo’s party has good quality magic bags, so they can keep food fresh for about ten days. That’s more than enough when traveling by wagon from town to town.
However, they don’t keep food warm, so there’s no point in buying food as is.
First, I teach how to season meat, and then how to roast it. Meat cooked in simple skewers, and in metal plates.
In this case, how you use flavorings matters less than controlling the fire and how you roast the meat.
βHm… So the way you roast it changes it this much…β
βIt’s easy if you have magic items for cooking. It becomes a lot easier than trying to control the flames of a bonfire.β
βYes… It’s worth exploring.β
As I explain that, Hikari starts giving the roasted meat to Argo and the others.
They immediately taste it, and look surprised.
Hikari looks kind of pleased about it.
When it comes to cooking meat, Hikari can actually make good food. As long as she doesn’t season it with anything weird…
Next, vegetable soup.
This is mostly about flavoring. How to bring out the natural sweetness and stuff from the vegetables, and how to use few seasonings to tune the taste. And how to combine seasonings to make them usable for soup.
βIt’s not that complex of a mixture.β
βThis is simple. But it doesn’t taste bad, does it?β
βYes, true… Even we can make this.β
Guilford says as he looks at the rest of his party, who immediately turn away.
Yes, I don’t think they’re going to help you. They were interested when we were cooking meat though. Everyone really likes meat.
We stop there, and I turn to Mia and the others to see how they’re doing.
I see Kaede and Miharu nod multiple times with serious expressions. The other three are listening too, but they have grave expressions on their faces.
Without a skill like mine, they’re just going to have to work for it and learn the old fashioned way.
The important thing is to repeat it multiple times and learn.
βMaster, want some?β
Asks Hikari, with her mouth full of meat.
Argo’s party is also eating what Guilford is roasting. Despite their complaints, their hands aren’t stopping, so it must taste good.
Yes, food tastes better if you eat it while it’s hot.
βI’ll eat too.β
I grab some of the meat Guilford is roasting, and take a bite.
It’s probably because they do physical work, but it has a lot of salt and pepper, and tastes salty. But this is normal in this world.
The two drivers enjoy it too, but they keep glancing at what Mia and the others are doing, because I guess they want something cooked by girls.
Actually, Argo’s party is doing the same.
βYou can go over there too if you want.β
I say, and they start to furiously eat the meat in front of them.
And apparently Mia and the others are done too, and they start eating.
They ended up with a lot of food, because they showed examples and taught while cooking, but since Argo and the others eventually join in too, there aren’t any leftovers.
I guess they always have room if it’s a girl’s cooking.
And once we’re done cooking and eating, we decide to take turns keeping watch, and go to sleep.
The two drivers are tired from driving the wagons all this time, so they’re exempt from this.
The ones keeping watch are always boys and girls. The wagons are wide, but they’re still going to feel cramped with eight people sleeping in them. Especially the guys.
I could use Earth Magic to flatten the ground and sleep on it, but we have wagons, so I want to sleep in one.

Thanks for the treat.
Thanks for this weeks updates, as always well worth the read. ππ
