Walking in another world – Chapter 459 – Majolica’s dungeon – 34F – Part one

The first thing I notice when we go down to the thirty-fourth floor is that I see more reactions from people than I expected.

The monsters that appear here are called giants. They have big bodies that are taller than three meters and close to two meters in width.

They’re known for being strong, but not agile. Still, that comes with a note saying that they lack agility only in comparison to their strength.

Also, they have a lot of stamina, and a lot of fights with them turn into wars of attrition.

Incidentally, a lot of people are here to get used to fighting giants, because from the thirty-sixth floor onward, they appear in groups.

They’re also looking for the most effective way to beat them, so they can take them down quickly when fighting those groups.

“First, let’s see if we can take them down easily, and if Geitz and Sora can block their attacks with their shields. We can’t test with downward slashes, so we’ll lead them on so they attack with horizontal slashes.”

Says Siphon, and I nod while feeling nervous.

I’ve heard that a shield user of Guardian Sword can block their attacks, so I think I can too.

“Sora, I will cast Protection too, but don’t overdo it.”

“Yes, I’ll be fine. I’ve fought other strong ones too.”

It would be better if I knew how strong they are compared to minotaurs for example, but I don’t have a comparison chart or anything.

In a way, I think not a lot of people have fought as many kinds of monsters as us.

Those tough people that fought in the dark forest are one thing, but people who stay in one dungeon only fight the monsters that appear there.

Also, I have Pain Reduction, so I want to believe I’ll be fine.

“Well then Geitz, let me go first.”

Geitz is reluctant, but lets me fight.

Hikari and Rurika coordinate their attacks, and do a good job leading a giant. Hikari’s dagger isn’t a very good weapon against it, but Rurika’s sword creates wounds with each swing.

They’re mostly attacking its legs to make it lose its mobility.

And when it does a sweeping attack, I jump in and hold up my shield.

This isn’t the new one I bought recently, it’s the sturdy one I already had.

The giant’s attack hits it, and the impact almost lifts my feet off the ground, but I stand firm.

There really is force to it, but I manage to withstand it.

At first, I don’t drop my center of gravity completely, to be able to go around, but I keep that in mind and manage to safely block the attack without my body trembling or anything.

Is this because of my stats? Or my skills? Regardless, I feel like I’ll be able to help as a shield user.

Then it’s Geitz’s turn to try, and sure enough, his handling of the shield is skillful and firm.

His body drags back a little, but that’s him using the shield well to kill the impact.

He doesn’t just defend, he also puts the monster in a position that’s advantageous for his allies, and Siphon bisects it.

“They really are tough. If you’re going to attack them with arrows, you should aim for the eyes.”

“Hikari, you should probably use your dagger more for the paralysis effect too.”

Says Siphon to Orga, and Rurika to Hikari.

“Should we try magic next?”

“We should see if any kind of magic is effective against them, like Sora said. And focus on that and forget gathering materials this time.”

Area of effect magic would be the best way to deal with multiple monsters.

We need to try it with the monsters that are going to appear from now on.

Every sorcerer is different from each other, so it’s hard to find stuff like element weaknesses in documents.

I guess undead monsters are weak to the holy and light attributes, and most are also not strong against fire.

Fire is the one with the most power, so even people who can use multiple elements tend to focus on fire.

“Mia, I want to fight without Protection next time, so can you not buff me just that one time?”

“…Are you sure?”

“I need to check. I’ll do my best to fend off the attack.”

We look for another monster, and keep testing.

“Yes, it really does feel different when I have Protection. Please cast it again next time.”

Now that I know that, I ask Mia again. She looks a little happy. Is that because I’m relying on her?

“Chris’ spirit magic is a little too strong, so can she use it in a small area when they’re clumped together?”

When I hear that, I turn to where Chris is, and see a giant that’s been torn to pieces. The magic stone has been completely destroyed too.

She hasn’t really used spirit magic until this floor, and I get the feeling that it’s been powered up by Eliana.

“I want to have the golems fight one next, but do you want to practice too, Chris?”

I ask, and Chris nods with a somewhat apologetic look on her face.
