“Don’t say that. It’s not like I’m not conscious of it too.”
Yuugo returned to the academy after his date with Melt, and told Phi and Angel about what happened with mixed feelings in his expression.
Nevermind the incident with the Bull Golems, it seemed to him like ever since he reincarnated into that world, something happened everywhere he went.
If this world was looked at from the perspective of it being the world of the game called Luminous History, it seemed natural that going out would lead to a high chance of an event happening, meaning getting roped into some sort of incident… But Yuugo was unaware of this, so he really was starting to think he was cursed.
But then again, even if he stayed quiet, people like Marcos and Rush who held grudges from when Yuugo was a villain would challenge him to duels anyway, so Yuugo just figured that getting involved with these incidents was his destiny as a hero, and in a way, convenient for him.
“Still, didn’t that ruin your date? I feel bad for Melt… Hn? Where is Melt? Isn’t she with you?”
“Ah, she’s staying with Ehn tonight. That way if something happens again, she can vouch for her alibi. I had to come here and get permission for her to spend the night somewhere else, and it wasn’t easy to convince the teacher.”
“But you still did it, because you’re a nice guy. I’m sure you knew it would be tough too.”
“Well, I get wanting to help a friend in need. Ehn was looking really down too, so I’d do the same if I was Melt. But I couldn’t spend the night there with them, so I want to help how I can.”
“…You really are nice, big brother. I’m sure they’re thankful too.”
Phi had nice things to say about how Yuugo thought not just about Melt, but Ehn too.
For Yuugo, it really was not a big deal. It seemed natural to want to help a friend. And this time, Angel turned to him.
“I’m surprised you managed to get permission in Melt’s place. Did they complain a lot?”
“Hm… Melt is an honest girl, so I guess it worked out because the one responsible for the girls’ dormitory trusts her…? I’m assuming it would normally be out of the question.”
“It could be that you were actually taking Melt to your room to do dirty things together. I doubt normally someone would get permission for someone else like that.”
“Ah, the person responsible for the girls’ dormitory said the same thing. But then I asked where I would take her when I’m sleeping outdoors, and she didn’t say anything.”
Angel thought it was funny how Yuugo argued not by being quick-witted, but by simply stating the truth.
Yuugo was not a big fan of all this talk of taking girls to bedrooms in front of Phi, so he looked away from Angel’s laugh and changed the subject.
“Still… A waitress suspected of being behind a string of muggings and her friends. It all sounds fishy.”
“Yes. I’ve been focused on things related to monster armor beasts, but this sort of thing has been going on too.”
“The captain of the guards that helped us with Skull was even sent here to form a special unit. It feels like safety in this city has gone downhill all of a sudden.”
Said Angel, looking exasperated and somewhat sad, bringing gloomy expressions to the faces of the Clay brothers.
It was not just monster armor beasts causing problems in this world, humans did it too. In fact, rather than monster armor beasts who simply followed their instincts, it was humans who did more clearly evil things. Yuugo knew this, and expressed his honest thoughts.
“But there are still people facing forward and trying to be better. I want this to be a world that rewards that.”
“Yes. I agree with my brother.”
Maybe it was not as bad, and Yuugo had his personality switched anyway, but when it came to doing bad things in the past, he was the same as Ehn.
Much like how Phi and Melt supported him in his efforts to be a hero, Ehn had the right to break free from her past and forge a new self.
Phi agreed with his brother’s idea that a girl that was working hard should be rewarded, and continued with a somewhat serious expression.
“But big brother, there’s something bothering me about that…”
“What is it?”
It seemed something had caught Phi’s attention in this whole thing.
Yuugo figured he should listen to what his wise little brother had to say, and Phi spoke about what felt off, with a nervous tone.
