The people I saved were reunited with their friends, and it looks like they accepted that we don’t want to hurt them.
Apparently mister Dongu told them he hopes they will leave, and even offered to give them food… But Reimar says they are still in the same place.
They say they accept, but I don’t think they accept at all. They’ve been running around, probably looking for our village, but haven’t managed to find it yet.
This village shouldn’t be that hard to find. If anything, I think it stands out, but they still can’t find it.
“It’s probably because you’re here Lerunda. You wanted to bring them here at first, but changed your mind after listening to mister Dongu and the others.
I think either those feelings are connected to this result, or part of them actually wishes to harm us, which is making it impossible for them to find you.”
“…I see.”
“Yes. At least that is what I think. The miko really is a fascinating being.”
“…We don’t know, for sure.”
“Yes, we haven’t confirmed that you really are the miko, but I think you are. Even if you are not, at the very least we do know that you have some sort of special power.”
Says miss Lan with a kind smile.
“Still, having them around here is a problem. They might not find the village, but we still need to be careful. As we learned from what happened with mister Athos, the miko’s power isn’t perfect. Mister Dongu and the others seem to know this as well, and aren’t letting their guard down.
I don’t know what is happening, but they must have something in mind if they’re hanging around here. I hope they leave before a single one finds us, but if they give up and decide to live nearby, it’s going to be very difficult to not get involved with them.”
It would be best if they left before they found our village, but if they start living here, it would be hard to not get involved.
What are they thinking? What do they want?
Would anything change if I knew this? Are they going to leave and go somewhere?
If we knew more about them, would we be unable to not get involved anymore?
I don’t know, but what I do know is that the situation can’t stay like this.
After my conversation with miss Lan ends, I…
“Freinet…”
Call Freinet, and she responds right away.
“Freinet, I… Want to know, what they are thinking.”
“What are you going to do once you find out?”
“I don’t know, but knowing is better, than not knowing.”
I can’t say what I’ll do, because I don’t have the answer. Still, knowing is better than not knowing, and it will make it easier to act if something happens.
Freinet agrees. They shouldn’t be able to see or hear her unless she reveals herself, so I’m thinking she can collect information for us.
Freinet is going to where they’re staying, and I go see Gaius.
Gaius and all the other kids have been told not to go outside the village, so he’s been staying here, practicing using his magic. He says he can use physical strengthening magic, but can’t use anything else yet.
“Gaius.”
“Lerunda…”
“…What do you think, will happen?”
“…Are you talking about them?”
“Yes.”
Gaius has been thinking about all sorts of things, even more than me. He was the first one to talk about our current goal too. How does he feel about them? How do they think this will end?
“…Honestly, I don’t think they’ll just leave.”
“Why?”
“…I think they probably want to get involved with us.”
“Yes…”
“But I think it would be better for everyone if we didn’t.”
“Yes.”
“I said I wanted to build a place where we can all be at peace. If those people really ran away just like us, I think it would be great if we could all be at peace together.
But before that can happen, we need to build our own place where we can really be at peace. If we don’t, we can’t take them in.
I think it’s just a matter of bad timing. If this happened a little later, when our village was completely formed, we probably could’ve taken them in.”
“Yes…”
“…But I don’t think they’ll just leave. I just hope no one here gets hurt.”
“Yes…”
It would be better for everyone if we didn’t get involved with each other.
…But at this rate, that probably won’t happen.
Like Gaius says, they show no signs of wanting to leave, and they keep looking for our village.
