Levithesis was sealed a hundred and fifty years ago by the demon king Albatross’ hand, in what was the capital at the time, Almada. The seal was big enough to engulf an entire city.
This battle was the reason why the capital of Atlanta was moved from Almada to Escarole.
The one closest to the reason for the relocation, Levithesis, was Undine. It was her dear pet, and perhaps it was not an exaggeration to say she saw it as family. They were certainly more than just master and servant.
She was grief stricken in the time right after it was sealed, and she went to Almada practically every day to mourn.
But it’s surprisingly hard to maintain those emotions for a hundred fifty years. For better or worse, she was easy to get excited and easy to cool off, and every time she worked on a relationship with a human, her thoughts about Levithesis were pushed back and away from her mind.
It was this morning that she remembered Levithesis again, when she looked out from her palace and saw a water dragon gracefully swimming above the kingdom.
It wasn’t an adult yet, and seeing it reminded her of when she adopted Levithesis.
(Come to think of it, I haven’t gone to see it recently…)
Seven years had passed, but there was no time like the present.
She called her prime minister right away, and said she was going to see Levithesis.
The prime minister was glad to hear it.
“That’s nice. Its seal is actually close to being lifted.”
“…Eh?”
Her expression froze, and it took her a few seconds to understand the situation.
“Hum, I’m not sure I understand, so can you explain this to me?”
“A crack formed in the barrier about half a year ago. Ever since, cracks have been spreading, and updated information from yesterday points to it being on the verge of breaking.”
“Half a year ago!? On the verge of breaking!? What is the meaning of this!?”
She pressed the prime minister with questions while breathing heavily.
“I can’t believe you kept me in the dark about such a dangerous situation for half a year! You’re fired!”
She could not be angrier. Normally, someone in this situation would grovel and beg for forgiveness while crying, but the prime minister kept a cool expression and straight posture, looking used to dealing with her.
“I’m sorry to say, but I did inform you half a year ago. But you said you were preoccupied with so and so, and did not pay attention.”
Undine was at a loss for words.
She had a major flaw. When her mind was busy with something, she tended to ignore everything else around her, especially when love was concerned.
The prime minister spoke the truth, she mostly did not listen.
The prime minister also presented proof in the form of administration records that showed Undine’s actions and words. When she read these records, she was speechless.
Every detail was there. Also, it was not just six months before, it was also reported three months, one month, two weeks, even one week before.
“I was thinking about presenting this information in the meeting later today after verifying its veracity.”
“…I apologize, prime minister. It seems all the fault lies with me this time.”
She sincerely apologized.
Undine was not accommodating when love was in question, but she was generally an honest girl, and when she was at fault, she was quick to accept it.
“No no, it is enough that you understand. More importantly, you want to know about the barrier’s condition, correct?”
“Yes, tell me all about it.”
“Mages of the royal court have been analyzing it for half a year, but it does not look good. It is a master rank barrier, so messing with it could lead to it deteriorating even further.”
“My friend made that barrier, so I honestly don’t know much about it either. She left abruptly, so sadly, I don’t think we can count on her to repair it.”
The demon king actually made a fatal mistake. Undine was good at controlling water through mental realization. She was used to breaking and building things with water, but not something as sophisticated as repairing someone’s barrier.
Much less a master rank barrier.
But the demon king failed to notice this. She figured if she could do something, surely Undine could as well.
Even if she could not, surely the mages of the Kingdom of Atlanta could figure it out.
This was both proof of her trust, and a bad assumption by the demon king. She neglected pointing and calling.
But one thing could be said for her. This happened when Undine and the demon king’s relationship was strained, so she could not teach the technique anyway.
In any case, they were now a group of people that could not repair the barrier.
“That is a problem. If you cannot do something, we are out of ideas… Ah, I know!”
“Did you come up with something?”
“How about we enlist the help of Mister Loyd, who defeated the king kraken?”
“Loyd?”
“Yes. According to Vermeer, he uses the master rank magic item box.”
“R-really!? I thought that was something special only Al could use.”
“What do you think? He is strong enough to defeat a king kraken on his own, so he might be able to repair it.”
“I agree. Have Vermeer bring him here right away.”
They were about to call Vermeer, but she just happened to be away from the capital.
The girl clicked her tongue quietly.
“She needs a pay cut.”
Poor Vermeer.
Undine then said she would go to Almada first, and left the palace.
