They were more or less equal in terms of power, and their attacks canceled each other out.
But Levithesis fired a third beam without so much as a moment to breathe.
“I’m not letting you! Water Daedalus!”
This time he cast it without an incantation, and it pierced Levithesis’ beam to hit it in the face.
“Gyaaaaah!”
Levithesis let out a big yell, fell face up with a big resounding noise, and stayed down.
“Ahh, I’m glad I managed it without an incantation.”
After confirming it worked, Loyd let out a sigh of relief.
“Ooh! That was awesome! You’re the best, sensei!”
“Loyd’s so cool!”
Said Mars and Lela, but they were not the only ones surprised by his power, so was Undine.
She felt it in her skin just how good a mage he was, but that was not all that surprised her.
Loyd looked around, and quickly chanted, casting the high rank area of effect spell Mega Healing.
The wounds on the fallen soldiers were healed, and even Undine was perfectly healed.
“T-thank you. Hum, did you do that?”
“Yes. I designated this whole area as the target of the spell, so I don’t think I missed anyone.”
“The whole area!?”
All the magic Loyd performed was extraordinary to Undine, but his words also amazed her.
“A-another thing. Hitting Levithesis with magic is like a dream. Just what kind of magic did you use?”
She asked him how he made that attack work.
“I fired my magic when it opened its mouth. A lot of big monsters resist things on the outside, but few have resistance on the inside, so I thought maybe… I aimed at its mouth, and it looks like it worked great.”
“Hou hou… Wait wha…!? That’s actually feasible!?”
She understood what he meant, but actually putting it into practice was a different story.
Timing that had to be difficult, to the point where she had to respect that competitive edge.
“Gaaaaaaaaah!”
But then, at just about the same time, Levithesis let out a roar and got up.
It seemed to be writhing with a lot of pain as it shook its head.
Despite its resistance, it still took a direct hit of highest rank magic, leading Lela and the others to scream from above when they saw it get up.
Loyd looked nonchalant even in the middle of this tense battle, and he turned to Undine to ask what to do about Levithesis in the end.
“I would personally rather it not be killed, but the situation being what it is, I don’t think that could be avoided…”
Her response was just as reluctant as he expected.
Undine accepted it, but he knew she did not want it killed.
Weaker magic did not work, and magic bounced off the surface of this opponent, so he was going to control the power of his magic just enough to render it powerless.
He did not let it show on his face, but Loyd had to be very skilled if he was to do this.
(In any case, I need to weaken it to some degree to seal it. I’m going to have to deal a little damage.)
He decided it, and fired the third Water Daedalus.
The sharp water dragon roared as it flew, but an unpleasant sound echoed just before it could hit Levithesis.
It moved its head side to side to avoid it, and let out an attack of its own, another beam.
Water Daedalus was bounced back, and Loyd quickly put up a barrier to block it.
There was an intense sound.
“Reflect!”
He gave the barrier reflecting properties, pushing back Levithesis’ attack, which it dodged.
Loyd clicked his tongue quietly.
(Its moves are changing… That’s kind of annoying. I think I need to rethink my strategy a little.)
Loyd was mainly attacking with Water Daedalus because it was a water spell and it was easy to control its power with all the water around them. Plus, he could control the magic energy being used, even if it was still not possible to fire it a lot because it was still a highest rank spell.
He looked for a way to deal damage a little more reliably, when he suddenly heard a laugh above him.
“Fuhahahaha! Loyd, you appear to be struggling quite a bit.”
What he saw was none other than the demon king Albatross. He was surprised to see her, and so was Undine.
“Al? Why are you here?”
Asked Undine.
“Kukuku, I am here as a supporter of sorts. I made my way here after feeling a familiar magic energy.”
“How did you… Did you fly?”
“Flying is no big deal. I just refrained from doing it because Sephilia and the others had their eyes on me.”
Said the demon king with a purring laugh.
“I see. So that’s why?”
“By the way Al, how come you’re here when you said you would never get near Atlanta again…”
Asked Undine, remembering their back and forth that time.
“Undine, you’re mistaken about one thing.”
“Mistaken?”
“You need not a reason to protect your dear friends.”
“!!””
“C-cool!”
Loyd really liked that line, and thought about using it on Iris.
(But when? Will I really come across a convenient troubling situation like this?)
“I know we were basically not on speaking terms, but the truth is that I always wanted to make up.”
“…”
“Or do you not feel the same?”
Said the demon king with a disappointed expression.
“…Of course I do. I want to make up with you too, Al.”
Undine’s words brought a smile to the demon king’s face.
“I see I see. Then let’s both stop being stubborn. The situation being what it is means we need to focus on stopping Levithesis.”
They were not on speaking terms for over a century, but they made up minutes after meeting again. Loyd just thought to himself that they really were alike.
“But who is that Sephilia girl you just mentioned? I don’t remember ever hearing that name…”
This question startled Albatross. Loyd knew about Undine’s yandere tendencies, so he quickly tried to help the demon king.
“Queen Undine! We should finish off Levithesis first!”
“E-exactly! Levithesis is more important!”
“…I’m not quite satisfied with that, but you do have a point. Very well.”
The demon king let out a sigh of relief. They just barely distracted her.
“Good job holding it back until I got here, Loyd. You can leave the rest to me.”
“Do you have any sort of secret plan?”
“I have an item to restore Levithesis’ sanity.”
“…!? You just happen to have something that convenient?”
“Kukuku, you actually know about it.”
What is she talking about… Wondered Loyd, as Albatross deliberately put herself in front of Levithesis.
“H-hey! It’s going to attack you if you go there!”
“Kukuku, your concern is unnecessary.”
Levithesis fired a beam at Albatross, but the demon king dealt with it without losing the composure on her face.
A giant rock suddenly appeared and blocked the attack. It was unscathed, and so was Albatross.
“I-is that…”
“Kukuku, I borrowed the meteorite from that farm. But don’t be too surprised just yet!”
“…Is that the mysterious super Iris!?”
The rock with the holy power of three hundred Iris’. That was what Albatross brought.
She snapped her fingers, and controlled the meteorite without actually touching it.
It was fired like a bullet, and hit Levithesis’ torso directly. It went down while screaming, and the Water Protection around its body disappeared.
“You managed to hit Levithesis? And undo Water Protection…!?”
“Al… What did you do?”
Loyd and Undine were both surprised.
“I used holy power. You are aware of the holy power this meteorite houses as well, Loyd. It is not commonly known, but holy power houses the power of the holy magic element, the strongest of the elements! That makes this meteorite the strongest weapon in the world!”
Albatross grinned.
“A meteorite we don’t understand is the strongest weapon in the world? That doesn’t sit right with me…”
Loyd stated his honest thoughts.
“Stop whining! Isn’t it perfect here!? Even Water Protection is powerless!”
“D-don’t get mad. I get it. Thanks for helping.”
“Kakaka! Yes, yes. I am the strongest. Thank me more!”
Said the demon king loudly, getting very carried away.
