Walking in another world – Chapter 565 – Rurika’s point of view – Part three

We move through the forest, surrounded by giants, on our way to their village.

When we reach it, I see they’re not exactly welcoming. Most of them look confused and anxious.

Kitos tells the others what happened, and we’re taken to a building to see their chief.

“Rurika, look.”

Hikari says while pulling my sleeve and pointing.

It’s a statue that looks like the one we found on the twenty-fifth floor of Majolica’s dungeon.

The stance is different, but the face is very similar.

Siphon and the others notice where we’re looking at, and tilt their heads when they see the statue.

They’re reacting differently because they get a different impression from it. We remember that Kaina was sealed in that other one, and her soul was freed from it.

“What is it?”

Asks Kitos when he sees we’ve stopped.

His voice sounds normal, but some giants look irritated.

“That statue…”

Hikari starts talking, but one of the giants speaks over her, sounding impatient.

Kitos sighs, and apologizes before starting to walk again.

We follow them, because we feel like we shouldn’t provoke them.

When we get to the chief’s house, we are split into two groups. One consists of people like me who don’t feel anything when they look at the giants, and the other is people like Argo who get a disagreeable feeling. Siphon and the others decide to stay with Argo’s group, and are taken away.

I’m worried about them…

“I can guarantee their safety.”

Says Kitos, and I’ll believe it.

The people taking the others away are the ones that weren’t acting all extreme about us.

“So you are the outsiders…”

The face of the giant calling himself chief is very wrinkly, and he feels a lot like a grandfather.

Next to him is a young woman that seems to be watching us closely.

“I heard about you. So… You really don’t feel anything when you look at us? People in this world should see enemies when they look at us. Although this is actually our first time interacting with outsiders, so we weren’t sure if this legend was true.”

The chief sounds confused.

I see, so they had that legend, but weren’t sure if it was real.

When they were attacked by monsters, they figured the legend was true, but then they found people like us who treat them normally, so they aren’t so sure anymore. Is that it?

But since Argo and the others are also aggressive, they might still want to be cautious.

“Can I ask something?”

Says Kaede.

“This is just a possibility but… The four of us aren’t from this world. Could that be related?”

“Not from this world?”

“Yes, we came here from a different world.”

It sounds like the chief has never heard of people from another world, so we explain it.

“Yes, that could be it.”

He nods. But doesn’t sound fully convinced.

I mean, that would make sense for Kaede and the others, but what about us?

If it’s a curse, maybe it doesn’t affect everyone. Maybe some people resist it.

“Hm, but this curse is said to be a very powerful one. After all, it was placed on us by a god.”

“God?”

“Yes. Our ancestors said this curse came from the fairy god that attacked our people. Ones like the giant god tried to resist, to no avail, and the mikos of the time allowed some of us to escape. The ones who escaped were our ancestors.”

Is he… Talking about Mister Calotos and Kaina?

Could that be why we’re not affected? This would be the perfect time to ask Chris… Why isn’t she here!?

“Old man, do you know Calotos and Kaina?

Asks Hikari while I complain to myself, and the chief’s expression changes.

“How do you know those names? Are they all right… Actually, do we have brethren outside of here?”

“Probably not.”

Hikari shakes her head.

She says probably because there might be other places like this that are hidden. There could be other survivors.

“I’ve never heard of giants, but apparently some old books talk about them living a long time ago.”

I remember Chris telling me about that.

“But we know Mister Calotos and Kaina because we’ve met them.”

They’re all baffled, so we tell them about meeting Calotos and Kaina in the dungeon.
