The rampage caused by the people who got their hands on the many magic swords that were produced was quelled by guards and volunteers who helped them.
The magic swords were mostly disposed of, with some being sent for research.
Damage was minimal this time, at least compared to the monster armor beast invasion that happened before, but the strange cases that happened in this university city one after the other left its residents confused and scared.
The guards were continuously left one step behind, but people responsible for the Luminous Academy were also being held accountable, since the culprits came from the school.
And this would be exacerbated even more, were it not for the fact that information about the true identity of the bat monster armor beast, the one who also stole the first magic sword, was top secret.
Still, more prudence and better management would be required of these two organizations.
Much like Rush, the guards secured Neid in secret, but Lost’s tricks meant his memory was completely gone.
There was no way to have a proper conversation with him, let alone interrogate him, so the guards decided they would not get from him any information about the true culprit behind this case, or the organization they belonged to. They would instead keep him under close watch.
As for the other person… The key person behind this incident, who turned into a monster armor beast, Isaac. The only thing reported about him was that he was attacked by a magic sword user in the confusion, and lost his life.
Few people, including Yuugo and the others, knew he turned into a monster armor beast. Still, rumors spread, and information leaked about him also using a magic sword.
As a result, it became accepted that his abnormal strength came from magic swords, and his reputation plummeted into the negatives. No one mourned his death, and instead, students spoke positively about it.
Isaac got what he deserved, but Yuugo and the others still felt pity over him going astray and ending up fallen somewhere, and regretted being unable to save him.
…But there was something they did not know.
Isaac was not killed by a magic sword user. His life was taken by students of the Luminous Academy, who were seen as possible heroes.
They took advantage of the chaos to take out what they saw as a nuisance, and then went to the studio in the academy.
They looked around this deserted area, and grumbled their irritation with an annoyed tone.
“Dammit! Where did Isaac stash those materials?”
“Did he use everything? There should be at least some left.”
The people rummaging through the studio were all after one thing, the materials Isaac took from the other students.
With their owner now dead, they were free for the taking, so they wanted to secure them for themselves, because they were surely going to be helpful in their gameplay going forward.
That was what they had in mind when they snuck into the studio, including Shian, the one who delivered the killing blow to Isaac, but… No matter how much they looked, they found nothing.
Surely they should have been able to find that large amount of materials. And yet, despite multiple people looking, they found nothing, which left them confused.
But then, a girl’s voice echoed from the entrance.
“What are you people doing? The studio is currently off-limits.”
The intruders were startled for a moment by the sound of someone yelling at them, but soon realized it was a popular character from Luminous History, and put on the main character act, rather than behaving as themselves.
They saw Angel’s well put together face looked a little annoyed… But their eyes were also on the large chest hidden beneath the overalls, as she continued.
“Well, I can mostly figure it out on my own. You’re here to pilfer the materials Isaac scraped together, right?”
“N-no way. We were just looking for any lingering effects of the magic swords!”
“Hm… Really? I’ll leave it at that then.”
The cold eyes and response from Angel left Shian and the others feeling a cold sweat.
They thought it would be trouble if she heard what they were saying before, but whether because of their poor communication abilities or their devotion to their desires, some changed the subject and began to talk to Angel.
“H-hey! Since we’ve met each other like this, let’s talk for a bit! I’ll buy you lunch or something! What do you want to eat, An!?”
“Ah, no fair! I want An to do maintenance on my magic item! Come with me, okay!?”
“Y-you brought it up, so… Do you know what happened to Isaac’s materials, An?”
“Ahh… You people are just going to call me by my nickname like that, uh… I don’t like my name either, but it still annoys me when people I’m not even close to treat me with that kind of familiarity.”
She was a popular character and a good technician, not to mention a beautiful girl with great proportions. All the people present would welcome her as a party member and technician, but their inability to read the room and the way they tried to get her attention just led to her being completely indifferent towards them.
She grabbed documents from a nearby desk, and spoke to them while looking at them in turn.
“Sorry, but I’m too busy to deal with you. I’m gonna decline all your invitations.”
“But…! Hold on! We’re pretty popular right now, if I may say so myself. I don’t think it’d be bad for you to be friends with…”
“Even if he was disliked, the fact that you didn’t mourn your friend’s death and are instead taking his materials like petty thieves is already bad enough. I’m kinda disappointed to see the people rumored to be hero prospects are actually like this.”
The reincarnated students did not back off after being rejected, but were swiftly cut down by Angel.
Her response left everyone silent, and she sighed before giving them some big news.
“…Also, the materials you’re looking for aren’t here anymore. They weren’t Isaac’s anyway, they belong to a student that beat Isaac in a duel days ago.”
“Wha…!? Isaac lost a duel!? Who could’ve beaten him after the magic swords made him stronger!?”
“Ah, that’s right. The winner wanted to keep that quiet. But the winner decided the materials Isaac gathered would be returned to their rightful owners, so they should be with the proxies that are distributing them.”
Angel then stopped, and looked at them in turn again.
All looked at her with surprise, and she continued with a lower tone of voice.
“…By the way, someone here lost to Isaac, right? You should be able to get your materials back too, but you need to look for the people distributing them, instead of looking for materials that aren’t here.”
“Guh…!?”
Shian’s face showed the humiliation he felt, as Angel dug up the past he did not wish to touch.
Everyone else looked frustrated, and upon seeing their reactions, Angel understood how Neid felt before, just a little.
(The ones who want to be magic knights are all scum…? I guess it might be because of people like them that he got that impression…)
Was what she thought, as she saw the students others called hero prospects scheming to take advantage of the confusion in the academy to steal the materials gathered by the now dead Isaac.
These were the students who earned the trust of a lot of students, and were also looked at with envy by many, so she could not help but be disappointed by their selfish conduct.
Maybe it was being exposed to this sort of thing a lot that drove Neid crazy.
If that was the case, Angel was really lucky. She met someone called scum by many, who put others before him, and was in every way the opposite of these people.
She felt she wanted to support this proper magic knight… This hero.
Angel thought to herself that she would do what she could, as the others were still silent and fidgeted. She took one last look at these prospective heroes, and turned her back to them as she left.
“I’ll be leaving then. Well, do your best out there. People have high hopes for the ones called hero prospects.”
It sounded like she was cheering them on, but the reincarnated students knew very well it was a complete lie.
There was no emotion in her voice, and it was easy to read her attitude from the fact that she did not even turn to them. But more importantly, the answer appeared in their hearts… Or rather, their heads.
‘Angel Amber’s scenario is gone. It is impossible to recruit her as an ally.’
It was the second time this message appeared, after Melt’s. Shian and the others clenched their teeth as they realized this and watched Angel leave.
The pleasure and excitement they felt from killing Isaac was gone… As all they could do was watch one of their favorite characters move away from them.
