Afterwards, our princess throws a fit, very angry at Miss Miriel.
She’s also very upset with me for not saving her, and she’s been sticking to Tiltue, who’s been calming her.
But she still won’t stop crying, so Mister Diner brings her Yggdrasil nectar to finally improve her mood.
“Sweet!”
Says Snow, who is on top of Mister Dine. She’s licking that branch like she was never even crying.
“What a little opportunist…”
“S-she finally stopped… Crying…”
“Good work.”
Tiltue looks spent.
Since Miss Miriel was the cause of this, and Snow is still getting wary when she gets within a certain distance, Miss Phi is taking her away.
“Enough with you!”
“S-sorryyy!”
“If you’re sorry, stop trying to get close!”
“My body is moving on its own!”
She’s still trying to get close, but Miss Phi is holding her by the neck, so she can only stretch her arms.
Next time she hugs her, Snow will get really angry and might cause a disaster, so I’m cautious too.
“Having fun?”
“Yes!”
When she’s on top of Mister Dine like that, she looks like a kid on a rollerboard suitcase.
At first I wonder if it’s okay to treat him like that, but looking at the other great spirits, they might actually get jealous.
In fact, Miss Miriel looks super jealous.
“Thank you Mister Dine.”
“No problem. I’m happy this girl is having fun.”
Snow taps his head, enjoying the soft feeling.
She’s having fun, and while he doesn’t complain, I can’t help but feel bad.
Brynhildr is walking next to me, and her face is twitching.
“And it’s better than dealing with them.”
“Not fair Dineeee!!”
“I told you to stoooop!!”
“Grandpa! Run!”
Miss Miriel is dragging Miss Phi as she gets closer, and Snow sounds flustered when she notices.
“Leave it to me.”
Mister Dine, who she called grandpa, is more agile than he looks as he gets away, sliding on the ground like a cleaning robot.
“Aaaaaah! Waaaait!”
“Youuuuu! Stoooop!”
They look friendly as always.
◇ ◇ ◇
“I will be leaving you here.”
“Yes, thanks for guiding us.”
With Brynhildr gone, I sit on a branch and watch the great spirits play tag.
Mister Dine is now bigger, and he is carrying Snow and Tiltue as they run away.
“They are using pretty advanced magic for a game.”
“Are they?”
I watch closely after hearing Edinburgh, but I can’t really tell.
After all, I only copy magic, I don’t know the principles behind it…
“Well, flying magic isn’t normal to begin with…”
She says, and then she explains.
Mister Dine is using magic to freeze the ground and slide around with no friction, but that’s not all. He’s controlling it well to move at a high speed.
Miss Phi is using wind magic I can’t see to bring down Miss Miriel.
And Miss Miriel is moving around freely as she dodges.
This is a level of magic that’s unthinkable for a normal mage.
“Oh… That’s amazing.”
“Yes, they really are powerful beings of legends.”
Edinburgh is speaking not with her usual cool tone, but with a shine in her eyes like a kid.
Come to think of it, she went to Wil because she wanted to learn everything about magic.
She really does love magic.
“How about you get a closer look?”
“But…”
“I’ll watch from here with Tiltue.”
Tiltue is now sleeping with her head on my lap, because she spent so much energy soothing Snow.
I tell Edinburgh she can go, and she nods.
“I would feel bad bothering a married couple.”
“You’re not a bother.”
She says with a mocking tone, and I smile awkwardly.
“But sitting and watching in the middle of all this nature is fun too.”
“Yes, I agree.”
Edinburgh then goes over to the great spirits, and I pat Tiltue’s head.
◇ ◇ ◇
We’re spending the night on Yggdrasil.
I could set up a tent, but lying on clouds feels nice. We’re huddling together outside again today.
And so, here we are, lying and looking up at the stars.
The sky that’s supposed to be dark is shining with the moon and stars, which feel close enough that I could reach them.
It feels like an anime world I would watch as a kid, and it fascinates me.
“I wanted to bring down the moon.”
“Eh?”
“Then the world that took everything away from me would be destroyed.”
Says Edinburgh all of a sudden, when everyone else is asleep.
“…Old me really thought like a child.”
“Are your memories coming back?”
“A little. But all I’m getting is worthless.”
It’s less like she’s getting her memories back, and more like she’s remembering what she thought.
She’s exasperated by herself, and reaches up while speaking about herself in a derogatory way.
“In the end, I only thought about mother. That’s why I hated this world and wanted it destroyed…”
She stops, and puts her hand down.
“What was old me’s life like…”
“I don’t know… But you’re still here because you did your best to live.”
“…”
She doesn’t respond, and silently looks at the sky.
◇ ◇ ◇
“Ah, that’s right.”
Just as we’re about to go to sleep, Miss Miriel crawls our way like she’s swimming on the cloud.
“If Edi wants her memories back… She could go to the dungeon in the north.”
“Dungeon?”
“Yes!”
That’s quite the fantasy charged word.
There are a lot of different places on this island, but that’s the first I’m hearing of it.
“Is there something in the dungeon?”
“Hn… There’s…”
Fufufu, I hear, as Miss Phi flies towards us.
“An incredible demon!”
“Aah! Phi you idiot! I was going to say it!”
“You should’ve said it sooner then! You heard about Edinburgh wanting her memories back and forgot that demon, so I wanted to say it!”
“Yes but…! I was saying it now!”
Come to think of it, we never told Miss Phi and Mister Dine about Edinburgh wanting her memories back.
So Miss Miriel knew a clue, but forgot about it.
But demon… That also tickles my chuunibyou.
And as they argue, Mister Dinne comes rolling in.
“What is a demon anyway?”
“A general term used to describe those who live in the realm of the dead, and not in this world. They typically can’t meddle with this world, but… Miriel is talking about Orobas.”
“Orobas?”
“Yes! He should be able to get Edi her memories back!”
Edinburgh and I look at each other after hearing that.
