Today I’m working on my resume.
I was pissed off yesterday, but they had a point.
I took a new ID style photo yesterday, so I’m making new documents today.
As I write my resume, my eyes wander to the card I got yesterday.
The last name Honda is the same as the founder of the Honto Corporation. I knew it was a family run business, but why was the executive vice-president in the dungeon alone?
Also, apparently she’s in her early thirties. I thought she was in her late twenties because she looked too young to be above thirty.
I grab my smartphone and go to the homepage of the Honto Corporation.
It describes their business, and has recent information. I tap on the employees page, and see her name along with the title of executive vice-president.
Looks like the card wasn’t lying.
I’m supposed to meet her tomorrow morning. She told me to go to her company.
I thought to tell her to come to me, since I was the one who saved her, but I reluctantly agreed when she told me she would thank me properly.
Well, I really don’t feel like going over there again, but I might be able to walk in with my head held high, since I saved the executive vice-president.
Maybe I’ll complain about yesterday’s interviewer.
Hn? I’m being petty?
Always was.
◇ ◇ ◇
After finishing my resume, I head to the post office to send it out, and then go to the dungeon.
I’m thinking about mining on the twelfth floor today.
Good thing I bought a pickel, that I completely forgot to use.
I looked up how to mine on a video website, and I also looked up what can be sold.
I kick around the monsters that are in the way, grab my pickel from my Storage Magic, and start hitting the wall.
I keep scraping it, but find nothing that I think I can sell.
Maybe it’s just a bad spot, so I move somewhere else, and see other seekers mining.
There are four of them, a guy with a harem of three girls.
A small urge to kill wells up inside me.
They start looking around like they just felt a chill down their spines, but get back to work after shaking it off.
I watch them work for a bit, and then notice one of them seems different.
She’s dressed like she specializes in magic, and pointing her big staff at the wall to do something.
Then the wall turns to sand and starts crumbling, revealing iron ore and magic ore.
Ooh, you can do that!?
I’m impressed. That’s unique to Earth Magic.
I immediately move somewhere else, put my hand against a wall, and cast Earth Magic like she did.
I imagine rocks turning into dirt… No, everything except iron ore and magic ore turning into dirt.
It’s going to take more magic energy depending on how wide I make the area, so I limit it to three meters.
The wall turns to dirt and comes down. On top of me that is.
Gueh! Pfft pfft.
The area was too wide.
I smack the sand off my body as I get up and look around. There’s sand all over, but I see ore too. I kick the sand away, and dig up a good amount of ore.
This isn’t very efficient.
It takes time, and I’d run out of magic energy if I did it again.
Also, it’s one thing to do it with friends around, but it’s too dangerous to do it on my own.
I’m sure that girl wouldn’t be doing this alone either.
But I still got a nice haul, so I can’t complain.
◇ ◇ ◇
After collecting everything, monsters attack from behind.
I block a goblin’s attack by swinging my greatsword behind me, and it cuts the monster.
Then I use the goblin’s body as a shield to block big ant acid, and quickly close the distance to stab it.
The remaining goblin is looking for the right time to attack, until it decides it can’t win, and turns tail.
But I’m not letting a monster get away, and pierce it with earth thorns.
…Goblin.
That gives me an idea.
I put my hand on the wall, and use Trace.
An invisible feeling runs through the wall, telling me what’s there. It runs for five meters before cutting off.
Then I use Earth Magic to rip out only what reacted to that feeling, and sure enough, ore falls from the wall one by one.
All right!
I pull a triumphant pose at a plan that worked perfectly.
This is good. I can save magic energy, and won’t bring down too much sand.
I only spent a third the magic energy I did the first time.
I can do it again if it’s like this.
◇ ◇ ◇
I found a new spot that looks good, so I put my hand on the wall, and use Trace.
I let out a yell to fire myself up, and the rock worm that just pierced my hand says hello.
That hurts!!!!
The small rock worm then starts rampaging while still piercing my hand, so I pull it out, smack it to the ground, and step on it.
I cast Healing Magic on my hand that’s trembling with pain.
Why was a monster there? That question is answered when I put my hand on the wall again and cast Trace.
After tapping the wall to make sure there’s nothing on the surface, I cast Trace again, and feel reactions from rock worms all over.
Are they rock worm children? They’re smaller than the ones you’d find along the way.
I don’t really care about rock worm ecology, but apparently they either lay eggs in rocks, or raise their kids there.
Anyway, now I know that if I’m going to mine with Trace and Earth Magic, I should be careful.
I’m a bit traumatized. I feel repulsed enough that it reminds me of a movie I saw a long time ago.
◇ ◇ ◇
I leave the dungeon to go sell my stuff, and seeing the harem party all excited gives me an urge to kill.
