The miko should be able to do something if someone attacks this country.
People might look down on me because of what I look like, but will they back down once I show how strong I am?
But if I face someone like that… I might end up having to kill them.
“I… Don’t want anyone to die, and I don’t want to kill anyone. But that sounds difficult.”
No matter how much I want it, it could be very difficult. And when the time comes… Will I be able to move? If I hesitate in a battle, something might happen that I can’t take back.
I’ve been carefully thinking about this sort of thing.
“Gurugururuuuu. (You think too much. You should relax more.)”
“Yes. Hm, maybe. I really don’t want to take lives, but if something does happen… I’ll do my best to protect everyone. That comes first.”
If a war happens, I’ll protect what’s important to me. It’s not like that makes it okay to take lives, but… I decided to fight for this country, so I have to be prepared for that!
If fighting breaks out, there might be more people thinking about this like I am. And people not used to this sort of thing… But they will have to rise up to protect this country.
Of course, Gaius and I don’t want this to happen, but it might come to that.
I want to be a shield that protects everyone, but as a king, I can’t just do things without thinking and being careful.
“Gurururu. (That’s good.)”
“Are you going to fight too, Reimar? If you threaten them, they might get scared and leave.”
“Guruguruururuurururu. (I have a feeling it won’t be that easy.)”
“How much do they need to be threatened to leave? Like, what if we break things near them?”
“Gurugururu? (Like, we’ll do this to you too?)”
“Yes. I don’t want to use magic that shouldn’t be used on people! But maybe if I show them I can do that, they’ll get scared.”
“Gurugurururuuuu. (Maybe if a young girl like you uses magic like that, they’ll get scared.)
“Then I should do something really flashy to scare them… But what…”
“Gurugururururu? (If you can, how about controlling the weather?)”
“Ah, yes. If I pray for it beforehand, I can make it rain. I could use the weather to make it harder for them to come…”
I’ve made it rain to put out a fire. If I do that again, I might be able to stop them. If I make it so they can’t advance, they won’t come here.
Making them unable to get here would be the best.
If I don’t want them here, that alone will make it harder for them, but… If I could have something like an iron wall, something that won’t let them get close, then there won’t be a problem.
“Reimar, I want to practice making it rain. Do you want to come with me?”
“Gurugurururu. (Of course.)”
But first, I want to talk to Miss Lan and the others.
They worry about things like controlling the weather being a big burden for me. But I want to check how much of a burden it really is.
If I don’t know how to hold back when the time comes, my body might not hold.

And so, I head to the forest with Reimar to test some things. First, a small area. I want to try making it rain in one area, and cause lighting to fall…
I need to be careful about that. It scorches the earth, so I can’t use it on people.
What about making it rain a lot? If it’s really bad, they might get ill, but it’s better than killing. If it gets really hard for them to continue, will they go back…?
But what if they keep going? We have to consider that.
If they get to us and try to use their military power, I’ll have to use the power of the miko to hold them back.
With that in mind, I start doing some trial and error.
After a while, we hear that the Kingdom of Lunid has learned of our country, and they are headed here.
