Walking in another world – Chapter 668 – Kijin – Part four

The felled kijin turns to particles and disappears, leaving a magic stone behind.

This is the reward. I pick it up, put it in the Item Box, and go back to the others.

Map is still showing one reaction on its way here.

“So how was it fighting a kijin?”

“I feel like those magic eye abilities really are trouble. But as for fighting it normally, Hikari and the others could probably take it down without much problem.”

Hikari and Rurika are better at fighting people than me.

I tell that to Argo’s party too, but the issue is still the magic eyes.

“I’m not completely sure of it yet, but…”

When the kijin activated an ability… I tell them about how the eyes tremble, or I guess shake would be a better word.

“So something happens to the magic eyes when they activate abilities? It’s worth checking out.”

“Yes. So what about the other one approaching?”

“We can fight it. It would be tough for you to fight another one right after the last one, right?”

Rurika and the others will fight this one, because Mia volunteered, and she can coordinate better with the others.

“Then Hikari and I will attack from a distance first.”

“Yes. After that, we can rely on Mia and attack, right?”

“Leave the support to me! I will watch out for it if it has one eye, but tell me if you feel strange in any way, and I will cast Recovery.”

Mia says to Rurika, and I’ll cast Appraisal too if it’s a one eye. Appraisal can tell me right away if there’s a status condition.

“I hope we can determine the effective range of the magic eyes too.”

“If it’s like before, that will just be trouble.”

I say to Rurika, remembering the last kijin.

The attacks reached me when I was over thirty meters away.

Maybe that magic eye was made for long range, or maybe all magic eyes have that wide of a range.

Could you even call something like that a magic eye ability? At least the fact that it couldn’t activate it without swinging its sword made it simple to understand.

If it was just the eye trembling, I wouldn’t have known what was coming or how to dodge it that well.

“Get ready, Chris.”

Says Rurika, and Chris begins preparing her magic.

Magic energy gathers inside her, and it looks like she’s going for a preemptive attack with spirit magic.

Hikari is also ready to use her Projectile Slash, while Rurika, Sera, and Mia are not moving. I think Rurika is standing by to use her Gale if needed.

Eventually, a one-eyed kijin emerges from a corner. It’s holding a sword.

It steps forward, and keeps walking towards us without stopping. It can see us, but it’s not slowing down.

I can’t tell if it’s showing it’s not worried, or if it’s wary.

When it’s halfway through the passage, Chris uses her magic. The monster is about thirty meters away.

I was looking at its eye, but I didn’t see any shake. There’s no change to anyone’s status conditions either.

Chris held off on using her magic until now because she didn’t want it to turn back and run to one side, and to test the effective range of the magic eye.

I see the flames hitting the kijin, and they burn big and bright. But the reaction stays the same.

Once the flames clear, I see the kijin practically unharmed.

Hikari immediately swings her dagger three times. The slashes fly at the kijin, but it evades them with crisp moves.

Hikari attacks again, but this time, it blocks with its sword.

“Chris, stay here. Cover us if something happens. We’re going forward.”

I figured Rurika would use Gale, but they use the width of the passage to all run at once.

Rurika, Sera, and Hikari run in a line, with Mia a little further back.

She’s probably leaving some distance just in case it uses Fascinate. And maybe to probe the range of the magic eye.

The kijin stops, and looks around while moving only its eye.

The distance is shrinking. Twenty… Fifteen meters.

“Ah.”

Chris raises her voice. Yes, I saw its eye shake.

I cast Appraisal, and see Sera, who’s in the middle, has been hit with paralysis. The other three are fine.

Of course, Chris is fine too, despite the kijin being able to see her. And Argo’s party is out of its sight, standing by on the side of the passage.

Before I can say anything, Mia casts Recovery on the four of them.

Then she stops, and Rurika and the others get even further away from her.

The three of them approach the kijin, and start attacking.

The kijin doesn’t use its eye, so it probably can’t cast status conditions one after the other.

That’s what I think, but I’m wrong. The kijin used its magic eye while fighting. I know not because I saw its eye tremble, but because of Appraisal.

Mia didn’t notice it either, because it used it when it wasn’t looking at us.

Once I warn her about it, Mia immediately casts Recovery.

Mine won’t work on targets that are over ten meters away, but Mia can use it from a distance.

Before the battle ends, Sera turns this way with a status condition, but Mia is never hit with paralysis.

Maybe she was outside of its range, or maybe it can’t cast status conditions on multiple targets… Unfortunately, we couldn’t check that.
