“It’s no good, there are too many monsters. We have to hide here and wait for help to come…”
Phi sneakily checked what the situation was like inside the building, and told Yui after seeing that the monsters only seemed to be increasing.
As he prayed that her ‘eyes’ couldn’t see the people fallen here and there, he looked back on what led to this.
He headed towards the bathroom with Yui, and they were about to return to the rest of the group after she was done. But for some reason, Uno and the others were nowhere to be found.
And as they were confused because they had no idea where they went, monsters attacked. He immediately took Yui back to the corridor where the bathroom was, and hid there.
It seemed the section where they were had already fallen to the monsters completely, as Phi saw no one moving except them.
However, these insect monsters appeared to have low intelligence, so thankfully, they did not find them. But still, Phi felt an unease he could not describe.
(Those monsters changed form. Why did they change from insects to something almost human…?)
Phi was also confused about the transformation that happened in front of him.
This transformation that made them more fiendish was certainly not just an aesthetic one. He assumed it also increased their fighting power.
If that many monsters spotted them… Phi shook his head, trying not to picture that bad future, when Yui apologized quietly.
“I’m sorry, Phi. It’s my fault you got involved in this…”
“Don’t apologize, Renjou. We were left behind because I didn’t communicate well…”
“That’s not true. You did say it all clearly. It’s the messenger’s fault. Don’t feel bad about it.”
Both apologized and cheered the other, as they waited to be saved.
There was a moment of silence, and Phi whispered to Yui.
“…If I was as strong as my brother, I could take care of those monsters and get you out of here… I hate my weak body.”
If it was Yuugo, he could definitely exterminate those monsters and protect Yui.
Phi imagined his big brother cutting a path like that, felt pathetic as he compared his weak self to him, and cast his head down.
But hearing that only made Yui feel bad.
“If you put it like that, if I could see, I wouldn’t be such a burden for you. We might have been able to run from the insectary when this whole thing started…”
“Ah…”
Phi gasped when he realized that talking about his faults made Yui feel bad.
He sighed thinking he really was no good… But then he remembered what his big brother said, and closed his mouth.
‘Listen Phi. I understand wanting to grumble when times are tough or you’re in trouble. But when you have someone with you, you need to hold that whining and be strong. When you’re in trouble, laugh… That’s hero condition number seven. Don’t forget it.’
While wanting to grumble in a tough situation was understandable, doing so would only discourage others.
Phi understood the meaning of what his brother taught him… Being strong enough to smile even when he did not feel like it, to reassure others around him who were being crushed by anxiety. He roused himself, and spoke to Yui with a smile.
“It’s okay Renjou! Help is coming! You might feel helpless until then, but I’ll protect you! I’m not strong enough to tell you to not worry… But I’ll definitely protect you!”
“Phi…”
Yui’s eyes could see Phi’s soul.
By staring at him, she could see negative emotions like fear and anxiety whirling around in his heart.
But… It was also overflowing with courage that crushed that fear.
Yui saw the strength of his heart that made him overcome his fear, and let out a little smile.
“…I’m glad I’m with you. You are very reassuring. Thank you, Phi.”
“R-really? I’m glad I made you feel a little better.”
Being complimented so directly made Phi feel embarrassed.
As they managed to not forget hope even in a desperate situation, there was some warmth in the air.
But then…
“Oh my, we have quite the cute couple here. How very very very irritating.”

I can almost see Phi saying that while giving a thumbs up like a certain adventurer with 2000 skills.
Godai would be proud
Now, the time have come, to find out, how will Yuugo react when hears a child’s cry for help…. and that child is none other than Phi 🙂
Here hoping a new armour change to match how angry he might get.
