Walking in another world – Chapter 700 – Goblin hunting – Part two

As we cross the forest, we occasionally stop to pick medicinal herbs, fruit, and vegetables.

Of course, we don’t stray from the path, and only pick what we can see up ahead. Our priority is reaching the valley where the goblins are.

“Master, what are you making today?”

“Soup using the vegetables?”

Actually, I might as well make udon. I can use the help of the Cooking skill to make the noodles, and make a soup based on soy sauce.

I’m using an assortment of vegetables this time, but I could make stuff like curry soup or curry udon too.

If there was stuff like dry noodles, it could be added as an option for portable rations to take to the dungeon, but then it might be better to just use magic to thaw frozen ones. And could the water be used for the soup then?

Whether that would be tasty is a different story.

I talk with the others about this while cooking, and Mia and Chris look pretty serious. Are they thinking about trying it?

After eating, we keep walking until a little after the sun sets. And after finding a nice space to build a house, we rest for the day there.

First, I make the house with Earth Magic.

And since Hikari complains that she didn’t have enough meat, dinner is based on what she wants.

I leave the cooking to the others, while I use the Covert skill to hide the house, and go for a walk around here, picking up medicinal herbs and fruit along the way.

Of course, I make sure I don’t go too far, because I don’t want to worry anyone. And they’d get mad if I did. If Hikari and Rurika got their hands on what I brought, they’d know.

The food is ready when I come back, and Hikari hands me a meat skewer.

After we eat, we go to bed. I can tell from Map that there aren’t any monsters nearby, but since we’re getting close to the goblins’ camp, we take turns keeping watch.

◇ ◇ ◇

The next day, we reach the valley in the afternoon.

We can see five goblins when we look down. There’s a cave nearby, and I see close to a hundred reactions in it.

I can imagine based on their positions that one is a superior species. And the cave looks pretty wide.

“What should we do? It looks pretty wide.”

“I guess we can’t close the entrance and call it a job well done. We have to go in and take them down. There might be another entrance.”

Says Rurika. Also, we need to prove we beat them.

It would be one thing if multiple parties were here, but it would be hard to prove with just us. Or rather, impossible.

If any goblins got away and they were sighted, we’d be penalized for a false report.

We take a small break, and move out before the sun sets.

“Ready?”

The plan is simple. Use Transfer from up here.

The goblins die, still with a look of shock on their faces after we suddenly appear in front of them.

Hikari immediately uses Projectile Slash, Rurika starts cutting with Gale, and Sera throws axes to cut necks.

I quickly collect the corpses while holding my shield, and we enter the cave. After a bit, I look around with Map, because I couldn’t see the layout of the cave from outside.

“It’s pretty branched.”

The paths split a lot, and there are goblins spread all around, not just in the deepest area where most are.

It would take time to go around all the paths, and it would be dangerous to split up. We’re fighting goblins, but we still need to be careful.

But there’s also a chance that as we take down goblins in these paths, the ones deep inside the cave will escape. Conversely, we need to see how the goblins in these paths react when we reach the others.

As far as I can see on Map, there’s only one entrance. Should we ambush them there?

They’re monsters, but they still need to rest, and they post guards when they do. We could use this to whittle down their numbers. But if there’s a superior species, it might catch on to the fact that the others aren’t returning, and take action.

But as I tell the others what I see, there’s a big tremor.

I hold Chris’ hand because it looks like she might fall, and I consider going outside because it feels dangerous in the cave.

Rurika and the others feel the same, but as we walk towards the exit…

“Eh?”

I hear someone’s surprised voice, but it quickly stops.

The entrance is being closed. It happens so fast, and the faint light shining in quickly disappears.

I slowly walk forward in the dark, and touch the rugged rock.

Did that earthquake cause a cave-in? Then can I fix this with Earth Magic?

I’m about to do something about the rocks blocking the entrance, when I notice I can’t use magic.
