“Ryuuga! How is Phi!?”
“Don’t worry, he will be fine. Epee and Rouge are treating him, and he’s asleep.
With the battle over, Yuugo escaped the insectary with the group led by Uno. The communications device was finally working again, and upon learning from Ryuuga that Phi was hurt, he took off running towards them.
Phi’s condition seemed stable, as he was treated by Melt and Claire in the simple infirmary, and as Ryuuga said, his wounds did not appear to be serious.
Yuugo was relieved, but… Seeing the big wound on his brother’s back and feeling like he was not able to be with him and protect him made him feel useless.
As he looked at Yui, who watched over Phi with a pained expression, Ryuuga apologized with an anguish in his voice he could not keep down, most likely feeling the same way as Yuugo.
“I’m sorry. If I had gotten there sooner, Phi wouldn’t have gotten hurt. I’m really sorry.”
“You shouldn’t apologize, partner. If you didn’t reach them, he wouldn’t have just gotten hurt. Thanks.”
“…Phi got hurt protecting Yui. He saved her life. I’m the one who should be thanking.”
“Yes… He really did well. I need to make sure he knows it when he wakes up…”
Said Yuugo quietly while squinting, thinking about how with a weak body and no combat techniques, Phi faced a strong enemy and protected Yui with all he had.
He smiled, but his friends knew it was mostly a sad smile, and said nothing.
“I’m sorry, Clay and Renjou… I was in charge of their group. It’s shameful, but I didn’t realize they were left behind. I understand that an apology does not even begin to scratch the surface but… I am truly sorry…”
“Mister Castle…”
Uno, whose leg was injured, was frustrated about someone in the group he was leading being injured.
Uno blamed himself and bowed to Yuugo and Ryuuga, feeling all of this happened because he failed to keep everything under control, and a female voice that had nothing to do with it agreed.
“That is correct, Mister Castle! How do you explain someone in charge of a school year committing such a blunder!?”
The voice blaming Uno carried a happiness its owner could not hide.
Yuugo and the others turned in its direction, and grimaced when they saw Ramy, with many students including the combat miko.
“…I have no excuse, Miss Nira. I failed to look after them.”
“You sure did! One wrong step, and this could have turned into an unfixable disaster! What if Yui got hurt…!? You’re lucky it didn’t come to that!”
“Lucky…? Are you sane? Phi, an elementary school student, was attacked by a monster armor beast and got badly hurt. You should never call this lucky!”
Ramy’s imprudent words got Angel to scold her with a rough tone and a red face.
This menacing tone made Ramy shut up, but her expression showed her dissatisfaction over being lectured by a mere student of the technical department.
“Ah, calm down. I know how you feel, I feel it too, but… There’s something more important we need to clear up.”
“Clear up? What are you talking about, Ryuuga?”
“…Phi didn’t get hurt because Mister Castle failed to keep the group under control. Someone maliciously set him up.”
“!?!?!?”
A stir spread through the students and teachers after Ryuuga said something no one expected.
Ryuuga then spoke quietly, as everyone wondered what he meant.
“According to my sister… Both left the group because she needed to go to the bathroom. He accompanied her because she can’t see, and that was when they got involved in this incident. The issue is what happened in the meantime. Phi definitely told a high school student where they were going, but when they got back, everyone was gone.”
“That can’t be, they went to the bathroom? No one told me! Why…!?”
“…Phi has the strong sense of responsibility to protect my sister with his own body. There is no way he would neglect to inform someone that they would be going somewhere. And my sister wouldn’t lie. So if this information didn’t reach the ears of the teacher responsible for their group…”
“It got omitted along the way…!?”
Everyone was shocked. How could that have happened? As everyone failed to understand what was the meaning of this, Uno called out to the students to settle this chaos.
“Wait! Let’s check! First, did someone hear from Phi that he was accompanying Yui Renjou to the bathroom!?”
“A-ah, h-hum… I-I did…! Phi told me…!”
A girl raised her right hand while her whole body trembled.
Many eyes were turned to her, carrying things like suspicion, doubt, and curiosity. And she mustered up her courage to speak while her face twitched.
“B-but… T-t-t-that’s not right! I-I was going to tell the teacher! B-but then I was told it was time for my break and someone else would tell the teacher…! S-so I…!!”
“Calm down! Who? Who told you to go on break and that they would report instead?”
“W-well…!!”
After receiving another question from Uno, her eyes turned to the person in question.
Yuugo, Ryuuga, the teachers, the combat miko, the other students… They all followed her eyes towards the person who was responsible for worsening this situation.
“W-w-wha…!?”
Ramy was the one who most rejected this reality. She opened and closed her mouth like a goldfish, letting out shocked mumbles instead of foam, as the female student said the name of the one who was supposed to report in her stead.
“E-Egos… I asked Egos to report…!”
