About the case of destruction flags being demolished after a nichiasa loving otaku was reincarnated as a villainous student – Chapter 282 – Judgment, anguish, and patience

“Uu…”

Egos was overpowered by the bloodcurdling air around Yuugo, as the students and teachers silently watched.

He hoped someone would stop Yuugo, but everyone around him averted their eyes so as not to make eye contact.

Even his partner, with whom he had built a cooperative relationship, Shian, took some distance to avoid getting involved. But Uno stepped in to admonish the enraged Yuugo.

“Calm down, Clay. I understand how you feel, but any more and you will be punished as well.”

“Lecture me and suspend me all you want. Anyone who would let the one who hurt his little brother run freely out of fear of that, doesn’t have the right to call himself a big brother. If I can’t lose my temper here, I’m not gonna be able to face Phi!”

“…Sorry, Claire. Take Phi and Yui away from here. I don’t want them to see Yuugo like this.”

Said Melt, as she saw Yuugo was not listening to Uno.

Claire nodded, picked up the unconscious Phi, and made her way out of the infirmary. After hesitating a bit, Zenon walked after her. But just before he walked out, he peeked at Yuugo and thought.

He never looked angry even after having his fiance stolen and being called scum over and over. And even during the incident with Rush, even when he was asked to duel Isaac, he helped him despite the fact that he should resent him.

But that Yuugo was more angry than ever before.

As he watched him display anger not because of what was done to him, but because his little brother was hurt, Zenon felt some sort of anguish, and he quickly made his way out.

Meanwhile, Egos’ interrogation continued.

“Cutman, why would you do something like that? Why did you think to leave Phi Clay and Yui Renjou behind?”

“B-because…!”

Egos felt all too well that he was cornered, and held his bloody nose as he failed to find an answer.

There was no way he could say he wanted to use an event that happened in the game to make Phi disappear and raise Yui’s favorability… They would just think he went crazy.

He said nothing, and simply felt the pain from his nose and cried. But Marcos, who was standing next to Yuugo, spoke for him.

“The reason is clear. I can read you like the back of my hand, Egos. You wanted to use Phi to have your revenge on Yuugo, correct?”

“N-no…!!”

Egos tried to deny it, but could not continue speaking.

His face turned pale and his words sounded shaky, making it seem like Marcos hit the nail on the head.

“…What do you mean revenge, Bolg?”

“Simple. He previously strayed off the path of righteousness, and it caused a quarrel when Yuugo stepped in to admonish him for it. He still resents him for that, but Yuugo is strong. And since Egos is nowhere near strong enough to bring him down with his own power, he went after his weakness… He attempted to use Yuugo’s little brother to have his revenge.”

“So basically, payback? He would find satisfaction in making Phi be left behind?”

“Yes. I assume the original idea was to have them become lost and enjoy watching Yuugo look for them in a panic. But because of what happened here, it went beyond the realm of a little payback, and turned into a lot of harm.”

“That’s why…? He got Phi and Yui involved in this and got Phi hurt for such a foolish reason…!?”

“N-no! I-I wasn’t trying to do that…!”

Egos desperately tried to refute Marcos’ theory, but no one was listening anymore.

His actual goal was to have Phi killed, so at this point, having them think it was a little payback that turned into a big incident was actually better for him. But he failed to realize he should not deny it.

“Seriously…? You really did something that sleazy…?”

“I looked up to you. That’s kind of gross…”

“This guy’s seriously done. Not only is he weaker than Yuugo, but he’s scummier than the guy he kept calling scum.”

“U, a, u…!?”

Egos attempted to speak, but only random sounds came out.

He could see the students’ appreciation of him dropping fast, but all he could do was tremble. But Marcos left him and turned to the seething Yuugo.

“Yuugo, I understand you’re angrier than I can imagine, but as your friend, I intend to stop you. There is no value in putting your hands on someone like him. Do you intend to pat Phi’s head with the hands stained by that vile blood? Fiendish actions such as these get the punishment they deserve. Everyone here has felt your regret, frustration, and anger. Any more won’t be for Phi’s benefit, so bear with it.”

“He’s right. If you’re going to beat him senseless… I will cut his head before then. I’m also an older brother, so I understand your pain, but that’s why I can’t let you dirty your hands any more. I ask you as your partner, Yuugo, step back.”

“…”

After hearing his rival and his partner, Yuugo loosened his clenched fists while still facing down.

Despite how difficult it was, it seemed he understood. And Uno decided they should advance the matter.

“Cutman, we need to talk. Come with us. The rest of you, heal your wounds or tend to the wounded. That is all.”

Declared Uno before approaching Yuugo, who was still facing down.

After thinking about it a little, he spoke to him.

“…Clay. I’ll make sure Phi has priority to be transported when the relief team gets here. You should go with him. And… As the one in charge, I feel responsible for inviting this situation. Once again, please accept my apology.”

Uno bowed again, but Yuugo said nothing. And his friends simply watched over him as emotions of conflict and anguish swirled inside him.

Marcos is truly my goat.

The danger here is probably that once away from the crowd with Remy his power may be sufficient to minimize damage, which will lead to another attempt (albeit a game over for him in the end).
Unless Shion decides to cut the liability early, as he’d already been backing off.

I’ll be surprised if Shian didn’t cut ties after this, it seems like Egos’ charisma power has stopped working, associating with him any more will just bring trouble

I was thinking the charm just has a limit that the hero prospects so far ignored. Like those effects in TTRPGs that increase disposition by a step if neutral or higher.
While acting ‘heroically’ it worked well, and even blunt a fall from ‘unfriendly’ to just neutral (like the abandoned guy who corroborated the “go take a break” story).
But when “NPCs” are out of the effect, the sleaze and “he’s talking like you’re not even human” aspect of the ‘heroes’, are no longer magically twisted away from the disgust they would have illicited. One crack and the dam blows out.

This brought a smile to my face 🙂

I like how Marcos through in a double edged sword. He saved Egos to some degree by making him look like a scum bag that used a kid for a petty revenge, but also Egos had no choice but to use Marcos’ theory. If he admitted that he tried to have Phi killed, he would’ve been executed on the spot.
