Walking in another world – Chapter 742 – Avid dungeon – Part twelve

“Next time we fight frostgators, we’re going to have to give it a bit more thought.”

If there was one more, I’d be out of MP.

I used more than I should because I was looking around for solutions, but it’s been a while since I used so much MP in a single fight.

And there were only three.

“If there are a lot, maybe I should reduce their numbers with my magic first.”

Chris can’t use her firepower to exterminate them because that ruins the magic stones.

There are quite a few frostgator reactions on Map, so if we were up against a lot, maybe Chris should take down a few with magic.

We’re going to have to walk quite a bit on the third floor.

We discuss what to do next time we face frostgators, and after resting for the night, we head to that isolated island again.

It’s in the middle of the lake, but a path shows itself when the water recedes.

Looking at Map, it will take thirty-seven hours for the path to appear. I think that’s plenty of time considering how far we are from it.

But there are monster reactions in the lake around the island.

They don’t seem to be monsters we fought so far, but them being in the water means I can’t see what they are.

But I’ve already confirmed that the monsters on the island are poison frogs and sea devils. I can see with Farsight.

Poison frogs attack with their tongues, constricting enemies with them and poisoning them. Their skin is slimy too, so slashing attacks don’t work too well.

Sea devils are two-legged octopuses. Did they evolve to walk on land?

They have suction cups on their octopus legs, and records say they’re hard to tear away once someone’s caught in them.

We also have to watch out for darkness magic. If it hits, that person won’t be able to see… So like an ink attack?

As we talk, we reach the lake around the island, and a water monster emerges.

This wasn’t in the documents we read, but Appraisal calls it eight.

That’s definitely what it is, and as it raises its voice in a threatening manner, its body inflates.

Its thin body swells like fermenting bread… And water is expelled from its mouth. This pressurized water destroys a nearby boulder.

Its body then turns thin again, and after a bit, swells once more.

It’s sucking up water from the lake to attack, but the power that attack carries tells me there’s also magic energy involved.

“Kuh, at this rate it’s just going to keep attacking us.”

Argo complains while dodging the water jet.

Other monsters approached us to attack, but the eight isn’t leaving the lake.

It’s mainly Chris and Hikari who attack with their magic and long range skill, but the eight realizes that and hides in the water.

“Let’s retreat for now. Its range of movement should go down as the water does, so we should fight it then.”

I don’t think the water will be all gone, but it will be better than now.

At least I want to think it will be.

“Worst comes to worst, can we ignore this thing? The eight?”

Asks Guilford while wiping away sweat.

If it’s too hard to beat, I guess we don’t have to this time.

We can get others’ magic stones without it. At least I hope so.

“So Sora, how long until we can cross to the island?”

“Nine hours.”

“Then let’s rest. I think things will be busy once we get there.”

The island is pretty large. I can see a forest around the outer edge with Farsight, and a marsh and a pond after the forest.

The marsh has poison frogs, and the pond sea devils.

I think both have their own ecology and don’t go to the other’s home.

“I hope they don’t fight together.”

“Yes. But we might have to rely on Sora and Mia.”

Rurika replies to Chris’ whisper.

They’re talking about healing poison and countering darkness magic.

It takes away vision, but would Recovery heal that? Maybe Purification to clean a body covered in black stuff?

That could very well be it. Wait, I’m picturing an ink attack.

Hopefully we won’t get hit, but we have to be ready if we do. It never hurts to be careful. Anticipating things means we can act swiftly when they happen.

Still, unexpected things also happen, and sometimes we have to stop and think, so I guess it can’t be helped.
