“The incident has been settled… May we really declare that?”
“It’s tricky. The city is peaceful now, but I don’t think I can say that.”
A few days had passed since the night when Yuugo and Ryuuga fought and defeated monster armor beasts.
Meanwhile, the continued inexplicable affairs had led to big changes in the city.
The Friends of the Night Society were no longer rampaging in the name of their justice, but… It was hard to say it was peaceful, or that there was a happy ending after that mess.
Yuugo and Sakura walked and saw small changes to the city, that appeared to be the same as it was before, and he stopped when he saw something.
Their eyes fell on a display board, and their expressions sunk somewhat when they saw what the special edition newspaper pasted on it said.
“Black Veil killed by a violent criminal from Yamato! That’s quite the sensationalist headline.”
The newspaper pasted in the middle of the display board had news about Black Veil, the one who plunged this city into fear.
It said his real identity was a guard named Garland, that past events led to him executing prior offenders night after night… And that he was killed by Zaraki, a criminal from Yamato.
They did not know where that information come from.
Jinba said this information would be carefully disclosed, so it should not have all come out like this.
Yuugo had a pained expression on his face, as he thought about what Ryuuga said, that the masterminds behind these incidents might have sent Zaraki to silence Garland, and Sakura spoke.
“This news stopped the Friends of the Night Society, but it leaves a bitter aftertaste…”
As Sakura said, the news that Black Veil, who they worshiped as ultimate justice, was killed by a criminal, shocked the Friends of the Night Society.
Furthermore, Garland was defeated by Ryuuga, leading him to lose his power, which took the power to transform away from his believers. It seemed they all despaired over this fact.
This would have most likely not happened had he simply been apprehended.
Perhaps they would have called on the guards to release him, and acts of terrorism would have occurred in the name of justice.
Black Veil was worshiped almost as a god, as absolute justice, but the one who most definitely would not fall to evil, lost his life. This completely took the wind out of the Friends of the Night Society’s sails.
There was also the loss of Glonas, the one giving them instructions… From their perspective, this was a shock akin to the world collapsing.
As Zaraki, Garland’s killer, said, with Black Veil’s death, further trouble was prevented.
Many citizens would be happy about this, but… Yuugo and the others could not feel such joy.
“…Justice is quite the hollow difficult thing. I understand quite well what you mean.”
Black Veil gave many people orders as the friend of justice who judged evil. However, this ended in said justice going off the rails and creating many tragedies.
Conversely, the criminal Zaraki was one anyone could identify as evil… But his murder of Black Veil restored peace to the city and allowed its people to go about their lives carefree.
Justice and evil could switch places in an instant. And having justice in your heart did not equate to a correct result.
Sakura’s sunken expression showed how well she understood this, and after a small sigh, Yuugo turned to her.
“It’s all pretty tricky, and there’s a lot that pains me too. But… There are things to be happy about too, right?”
Said Yuugo with a smile as he turned towards their destination.
A door had a reserved sign on it, and the moment they entered the brightly lit room, they were greeted by employees and friends.
“Welcome! The food is almost ready!”
“Hi Ehn. I’m glad you’re looking well. Cross is looking good too.”
“Hahaha… We caused you trouble again.”
“No way. I’m glad you’re okay too.”
Ehn recovered and was discharged from the hospital after being attacked by Black Veil, and was back to work.
Cross also felt better due to her recovery, bringing a smile to Yuugo’s face.
“Sakura… Hum, thanks for everything.”
“I am tremendously relieved to see you and Mister Goto getting along nicely, Miss Mary.”
The ones who called for this gathering also seemed well.
Goto’s wounds were mostly healed, and Sakura had a smile on her face as she saw the friendly father and daughter.
“Hey, the pies are done~! Make way, we’re taking them there~!”
“Not everyone is here… But it’s not nice to let food go cold, so how about we begin?”
The owner and Delta had aprons that did not suit them, but at the same time did, as they placed the pies on the table.
The group gathered around the table to celebrate Ehn and Goto’s recovery, and had tasty food while chatting.
