Walking in another world – Chapter 743 – Avid dungeon – Part thirteen

After we take turns resting, the number shown on Map hits zero.

The water level on the lake goes down, and the monsters in it start moving. It’s not like the whole lake is gone, but it’s down to about three fifths.

Also, there’s more than one path to the island, and the lake is divided into portions.

“Where did the water go?”

“Big sister Mia, the world is full of mysteries.”

“Fufu, it sure is.”

Mia and Hikari talk about the water that disappeared, but I’m also curious about where it went.

“Sora, how long until the water is back?”

“…About five days?”

I say to Rurika after she whispered in my ear.

Map is showing me the number one hundred twenty-two.

“Let’s cross it. But be careful, because eights might attack even if we’re far from them.”

“Shouldn’t we take them down then?”

Chris’ spirit magic could do it, but…

“I don’t think we should. We’ll have to fight monsters on the island, so you should conserve your magic energy.”

Says Rurika as I wonder what to do.

Spirit magic uses up a lot of MP, and unlike me, who recovers it naturally while walking, Chris’ recovery rate is slower when she’s moving. We should go on like this.

That mess before also means we used a lot of mana potions. Not to mention that if we take them down here, others might appear.

From what I can see on Map, even after we take down monsters within sight, they stop spawning after a certain number.

I guess if they spawned indefinitely, the dungeon would be packed with them. After all, not many people hunt on the third floor. And most of the ones that do come here are after ore, so they don’t come near the lake.

There are exceptions like monster parades, but I’m sure there’s a limit.

We reach the island as I think about that.

I don’t think it’s dangerous, but I make sure Parallel Thinking is on so I don’t get careless.

Also, we weren’t attacked by the eights in the water. Could it be that since they attack by sucking up water, it means that the more they attack the less water they have, strangling themselves? And that means they won’t attack if there isn’t plenty of water?

I’d like to cast Provoke and test that if I can. Well, I’ll do that if we need their magic stones.

“The marshland is to the left, with poison frogs. The pond is to the right, and so are the sea devils, but there are trees here and there in the pond. And I don’t know about the marsh, but the pond is shallow around the edges.”

The water reaches the sea devils’ knees on the outer edge, and I can actually see the bottom with Farsight.

But apparently it’s deep enough to cover half of their upper bodies in the center. Unless they’re floating.

“Marshland? Could it be bottomless?”

“I see poison frogs diving into it, so it must be pretty deep.”

Poison frogs have big bodies, the size of a moped, and are more than twice as wide.

“Let’s get closer and see how they move. If they don’t approach us, I can use Provoke to lure them.”

Unfortunately, Map doesn’t show height differences.

Farsight lets me see mountains and hills, but I can only see a marsh, not how deep it is.

Also, I know it’s a marsh because I can see mud jumping when the poison frogs move.

We enter the forest, and after walking for ten minutes, we reach an open area.

There’s a marsh in front of us, and poison frogs.

Me, Sera, Mia, Argo, and Rick step away from the forest and approach the marsh, but the poison frogs don’t move.

It’s like they’re aware of us, but aren’t attacking.

Most monsters attack upon detecting an enemy, but not these. They might be aware that fighting in the marsh is to their advantage.

The others step away, leaving me. I also step back a little, but I hold my shield and cast Provoke.

There’s some distance between us, but thanks to Farsight, the skill reaches them. But the small scope means only one is baited.

I can’t complain. In fact, attracting one at a time is more than I could ask for.

It will take longer, but we’ve never fought them before, so it’s good for us to gang up on one.

I take a step back, and focus on the poison frog that swam from the marsh this way.
