I’m going with a big ship big gun doctrine! Take aim at a slow life! ~I was thrown out into space, but I took over a spaceship by coincidence, so I’ll work as a mercenary while playing with the dirt.~ – Chapter 47 – Fashion show

In this galaxy, interstellar travel is a common thing, but humans are basically the same. Their three base desires must be met, and girls shop a lot.

“Hm, I typically like dresses…”

“No way! That’s a waste! You could try something like wrapping around a skirt, accenting with a belt, and…”

Saratha always wears a solid color dress. She looks good anyway, but she’s not very stylish, says Kori. I’ve never seen her buy accessories either.

“Hm… Isn’t this too adult for me~?”

“No no, not at all! I know flotty tend to avoid anything that isn’t a skirt, but it’s a waste…”

Kori tries on a lot of things, but mostly skirts. They’re usually bipeds, but they rarely wear pants or anything like that… Also, their clothes tend to be colorful, so I’ve never really seen her in something chic like this. Just seeing her in a white shirt feels new.

“I-it feels drafty! Eek, it really is embarrassing…”

“Hmm, how about something cuter? Gray doesn’t really suit her.”

“I think something flashier will work.”

“Something risque too!”

Suzuri usually wears pants, reinforced ones with a hole for her tail. We just dressed her in something gray. Actually, we’re all surrounding her and treating her like a dress up doll. She looks cute in a frilly white shirt.

“Is this what master meant by classic maid style…”

“Hum… The one from the destroyed planet? It works, but isn’t it too plain?”

Of course, Iris is also included. She only has the butler outfit she always wears, so seeing her wearing regular clothes feels new. No, she’s trying stuff other than maid outfits too.

“Hm, it is interesting with people of different races. What is our budget?”

“About ten thousand puni for all four… Actually, how much is one outfit anyway? How much is what Suzuri is wearing?”

“About four hundred puni.”

I hear an eek coming from Suzuri, but at ten thousand, that’s about five sets per person.

“Saratha! How about five thousand per person?”

“Hey! That’s way too much…”

“Well, that’s including accessories and stuff. We usually just use the alchemist crafter, right?”

The alchemist crafter can make anything as long as it has the recipe. If you shove dirty clothes into it, it can remove dirt and reproduce clean clothes.

If you’re not careful, it’s easy to just get by with comfortable plain clothes. Of course, I wear comfortable pants, shirt, and jacket every day. Easy.

“You are too generous sir. You don’t look like a company president… Are you the captain of a transport ship?”

“Rude, I’m a mercenary.”

I show the laser pistol on my waist, and the employee’s face turns pale. She looks a little scared, but quickly recovers.

“I see I see. Then do you want to have a look at clothes that won’t restrict your movements?”

“We have homemade ones, so we want something casual for the girls to walk around a colony.”

“Yes yes! Leave it to me!!”

In the end, we go over budget, have them bring us lunch, and stay here until the evening. I’m sure they don’t have a problem with that, considering how much we contributed to their sales…

▽▽▽

Taking all those clothes back to Tortilla Double is easy with a transport drone, but we don’t have a place to put them, so we make strong synthetic resin dressers with the alchemist crafter, and make a few round trips to carry them on the elevator, until it’s time for dinner.

“If we bought a big ship, we could have a walk-in closet, or maybe one for each… That’d be too much.”

“Maybe we got a little carried away…”

“That was fun~! I just hope… We get chances to wear them~!”

“But the reward for this quest is gone.. Although only receiving two days worth of wages was practically a scam…”

“Should I peruse the quests for something good?”

Hn… How about that…

Can you? If there are monster hunting quests like the eel hunting one, that’d be nice.”

“Given the great number of quests, should I prioritize ones that will earn the most in a short amount of time?”

“Yes. Especially ones where we have the right to salvage…”

“Right to salvage… There is a good one, but…”

“Is there perhaps a condition that is making you hesitate to say it?”

Asks Suzuri, and Iris prompts us to go to the living room, so we all sit down. Iris turns on the monitor, showing a flat map of the galaxy and To Akul Prime.

“Do you remember the information extracted from the destroyer during the hexarappid extermination? There was info about a scrap belt, and there should be a lot in it.”

“Hou~. Scrap~. Scrap doesn’t pay as much as eel hunting, but there’s a chance to hit a jackpot~.”

“The information is about a belt in Mishun Prime, and it seems they sold information about it to the Herald of Autumn.”

“That name feels nostalgic now…”

“That is the ship you fought when you first came to, correct? I have since seen footage of that battle…”

“If I didn’t find a space expansion container there, I wouldn’t have made so much money hunting space eels. Normally people have to return after one or two days, or get ripped off by the transport ships that go to the station to buy that.”

Salvaging is actually pretty profitable, if you’re lucky. A single laser cannon can be sold for thousands, or tens of thousands.

“This scrap belt is the result of a large-scale territorial battle between Amanoiwato Frozen Distribution and other space pirates, that got even the Mishun Prime’s army involved. It seems there were over one kilometer long transport ships among what was lost.”

“They’re exaggerating~~. Isn’t that how it works when pirates sell information~?”

Iris turns to Kori, and nods a bit.

“I have checked, but suffice to say, I cannot see the history of lost ships of the Mishun Prime army.”

“I see. So we don’t actually know if the scrap belt is that big, but that information was sold to the Herald of Autumn, and Tortilla Double and Genma were definitely there. And we have the coordinates.”

“Sometimes it seems likely to be a winner, leading to sadness if it is a dud.”

“Sounds interesting. How about we pay for the travel expenses and stuff with eel hunting, and go check it out? Honestly, I’m really interested in the idea of tracing my roots like that.”

“Sounds nice~.”

Everyone’s on board, so we’re going. And after ten days of eel hunting, cashing them in, and resting, we have fun as we head to the scrap belt in Mishun Prime.
