The battle begins with a magic attack from their mages.
Fire, ice, wind, earth, lightning, and darkness come at me in large quantities.
It might look like a despairing sight, but I’ve gotten used to this here. If anything, it’s mild.
I control the flow of magic energy and dodge it all.
I don’t even need the magic mirror shield for this.
I use the Explosion, Speed Up, Break, and Spread magic circles, and counterattack with Earth Magic.
I feel like I hear something going tch, and rock spears fly and explode when they pierce demons. The explosions catch the other demons, and this one attack wipes out most of the ones in the air.
Yes, my power has gone up to a frightening degree.
The smile on the silver-haired guy’s face disappears when he sees this, and his eyes are now cautious.
Demon warriors cast Physical Strengthening and clad themselves in darkness, and come at me to prevent me from using magic.
I use Limit Break and Physical Strengthening, and focus my mind and magic energy on the greatsword of fortitude.
Their moves are sharp and polished. I’d call them masters if they were human, and that combined with their strength means even a pro seeker would have trouble with them.
I close the distance with one swinging a battleaxe down, and cut its head. And I swing horizontally, crushing twin swords being swung at me fast.
I dodge a thrust from an iron club and get close, grabbing that demon and using it as a shield against a longsword being swung down. I fire a projectile slash from behind it, bisecting both. Then I move towards the demons to go on the offensive.
Spatial Grasp and see Through tell me their moves. I can also learn them with Trace to further polish my moves.
The more I fight, the more I feel my power increasing.
And the same goes for Fuuma.
It has more and thicker magic energy, meaning the power of its magic has gone up by several degrees.
Sharp chakram cut down the remaining demons above. Some desperately try to get away, but are encircled by a tornado that cuts them to shreds.
Rising dragon chakram enveloped in wind blades fly and attack the warrior demons. As expected, warriors can deal with Fuuma’s chakram.
One dodges the first chakram, blocks the second, is cut by the third, and is killed by the fourth.
At least it dealt with two, but Fuuma just overwhelmed it.
Demons turn to Fuuma to attack it, but they can’t keep up with its speed as it flies.
I’ll say it again, Demons aren’t weak, but they are by the standards of The Abyss. They fall short compared to the skeletons found on this wasteland, and the grass monsters on the grassy field. They’re stronger than the bat and scorpion monsters found at night, but that’s it.
They can’t even begin to compare to the kaiju or the frog women on the lake.
I had trouble before, but I can overwhelm them at this point.
Demons go down incredibly fast.
The silver-haired one that’s likely commanding them is wary of me, but not panicking.
His friends are going down, but he shows no sign of making a move.
I decide to give it a shot. I cut down a demon that’s attacking, and deploy the Speed Up and Pierce magic circles behind it to launch a rock spear at the silver-haired demon from where he can’t see it.
But he dodges to the side like he knew it was coming.
I thought it before, but this one really is troublesome.
I don’t know how strong he really is, but light spears can pass through things. And he can make other monsters’ magic energy go berserk, so I can’t be careless with his magic.
He’s wary of me, but doesn’t seem to feel danger.
I should take out the demons before facing him.
That was the plan anyway, before I attacked him.
Now he’s moving.
The silver-haired man flaps his wings and comes down fast. He’s faster than Fuuma, and his attack with a longsword as he draws it is extremely fast.
I block with the greatsword of fortitude, but can’t contain the momentum and I’m pushed back.
We’re locked sword to sword, and I look at his face from up close.
That handsome face pisses me off. And he’s grinning like he’s making fun of me.
I launch rock stakes at it to pierce it, but the flow of magic energy around him wells up and makes them all go in different directions.
It’s the same technique me and the weapons store owner use. And it’s way more polished than mine.
A chill runs down my back.
I try to put more strength into it to break this deadlock, but before I can do that, I’m punched in the jaw and my brain shakes.
It’s like how a human would attack a human, why is a monster doing that? I don’t know, but it’s bad.
My moves are dulled, and I can’t block his blade.
He moves to thrust at me, and even though I know what’s coming, I can’t react.
The sharp thrust is going for my throat, and if it pierces it, I’m as good as dead.
Time slows down like I’m about to die, and I desperately try to resist and take him down, but I won’t make it in time.
Dammit, I say to myself as super fast magic heads towards the demon.
Fuuma’s chakram.
Wind blade enveloped rising dragon chakram close in on the demon to rip him apart. But he can control the flow of magic energy, so it’s easy to deflect those moves. But for that, he needs to be better at manipulating magic energy than Fuuma.
The flow of magic energy appears to divert the chakram, but the chakram keep going.
He clicks his tongue and jumps back to dodge, and crushes another chakram with his longsword.
That attack is sharp, to the point where I find myself thinking it’s beautiful.
Alarm bells ring in my head.
Let’s run away, we can’t deal with this, is what the last attack told me.
As far as I know, the best user of that technique is the weapon store owner. But the demon in front of me is more polished, like he’s been using that for a much longer time.
He’s gained some distance, and creates a light spear.
My head is still shaking, and my body won’t do as I say, but I can use magic, so I quickly create a rock wall. But in the confusion, I forgot something important.
The light spear passes through the rock wall.
I control the ground under me and jump to the side, but the light spear moves towards me like it has a tracker.
I deploy the magic mirror shield to dissipate it and hold up the greatsword of fortitude, blocking an attack from the guy that’s near me all of a sudden, but I’m smacked to the ground.
I exhale and create Wind Magic to fly me away from his thrust, and use Healing Magic as I get up.
The silver-haired guy doesn’t pursue, and mocks me with a grin. I really can’t win at this rate.
Fuuma tries to come this way, but I yell for it to deal with the demons.
If they intervene while I fight this guy, we really won’t stand a chance.
Fuuma neighs like it understands me, and flies towards the demons.
I exhale and vow to get over this guy here, as I use all my power.
“Limit Break Burst!”
I don’t know how far my full power will take me against this guy, but if we lose here, it’s over.
I grab the greatsword of fortitude hard, and cut at the silver-haired guy.
