“I noticed it first! The experience is mine!!”
“Like I care! The fastest wins!”
“We want experience! I’m not gonna let you hog it just because you noticed it!!”
Late at night in Luminous Academy… Shian argued with two boys in an empty classroom.
Suffice to say, these two had also reincarnated into this world.
The dark brown-haired boy assertively arguing with Shian was Wars Star.
The other who had glasses and seemed a little more sensitive was Torin Matis.
Shian ground his teeth with irritation as he argued with them.
“I get it, calm down. Having more rivals is just going to be a pain!”
Both went quiet, but their eyes said they were not going to relent.
Shian clicked his tongue, and thought about what to do as they looked at him.
(It couldn’t be helped, but it was careless. They saw me preparing…!!)
The violence done by the criminal organization led by Regen that day reached Shian’s ears.
He understood it was the character arc of Jinba, one of the guards, and while he was surprised that this event started so soon, he thought it was a chance.
What kind of chance? To gain experience.
They all realized their growth was not keeping up with the story’s advance and the enemies appearing, and desperately wanted chances to level up.
Regen, the enemy that appeared in this event, was pretty strong, but they were not after the experience they could get from defeating him.
They were after his underlings… the bonus enemies that appeared if conditions were not met.
There were subtle changes in Jinba’s event, and the fight with the organization led by Regen depending on the player’s actions.
If the player remembered the face of a criminal brought up during the conversation with Jinba the previous night, and correctly told him their features, they could ambush the person carrying Regen’s birdcage and transition straight into the boss fight.
But if the player could not accurately point out the features and did not destroy the birdcage, Regen and his underlings would come out during the Thanksgiving Festival and rampage there.
There were other small differences, but that was the big one. Normally, there was no reason to purposefully fail to identify the carrier.
But… The situation was different for Shian and the others.
The underlings that appeared with Regen were not very strong. They could take them down easily, and their experience was not so bad, but.. That not so bad experience was something they desperately craved.
Shian wanted to raise his level as much as he could, so he took action the moment he realized the Jinba event had started.
He got his equipment and healing items, prepared for battle… and was spotted by Wars and Torin.
Both saw how hurried he was, and seemed to remember the incident that day was a game event. And so they began saying they wanted to participate and get experience.
That would split the experience three ways… so Shian, not wanting this chance to be destroyed, vehemently opposed it, bringing us here.
“The experience from fighting isn’t that much! There’s three of us, so if we share it, we’re only getting a paltry amount!”
“I know! But I’m still not letting you take it!”
“You want to be the only one to get it!? Then I’ll drag you down as much as I can!”
They all began talking about pulling each other down, as though they were not recently talking about cooperating to kick Yuugo down.
Shian thought there was no helping it, and spoke through his ground teeth.
“Okay. You can join this event. But only the three of us are going to the Thanksgiving Festival. No party members.”
They decided to cut down on participants to keep all the experience they could get.
Between the three of them, there was a maximum of twelve party members, and as Shian said, the experience they would get would be paltry.
As a last resort, Shian proposed to the other two that no one else fought with them.
Wars and Torin agreed, and nodded without complaint.
“Dammit…! My experience…!!”
“Give it up. You can’t do bad things. You should be happy we didn’t bring the others into this.”
“And if it goes well, we can get a little more in the second fight. We don’t know who started the event, but I’ll gladly take the experience from getting through it.”
As Shian complained, Wars and Torin felt satisfied with their success in the negotiation.
They could see this as a missed opportunity to get a foothold for nice experience or a success, but… Needless to say, they thought nothing of the people that would be sacrificed because they purposefully let an enemy loose, or losing the chance to save the captured children.
They did not care no matter how many game characters or background characters were killed. What mattered was that main characters got something out of it.
Their behavior trampled over Yuugo and Jinba’s efforts to protect people, but they cared little, or noticed that they were even lower than Regen and the other criminals, as they started making moves.
