“Eh…?”
Neries thought for sure she was about to be yelled at, and was clearly surprised when Yuugo nodded deeply and sympathized with her.
Yuugo thought about the past, and spoke of his bitter experiences.
“That happened to me too. Most people laughed when I said I liked heroes. They said it was childish or that I should’ve grown out of it, but it’s fine. It wasn’t bothering anyone.”
“A-ah…?”
His experiences in his previous life… Yuugo was an otaku who loved heroes, and continued watching their shows even in high school.
Hot blooded battles and bonds of friendship, the moving stories of heroes made Yuugo’s heart race no matter how old he got. He never let go of his childish heart and his admiration for heroes stayed strong over the years.
But when he told his friends, most people laughed.
It was childish, he should have grown out of it in grade school, was what people said as they treated him like he was strange.
But Yuugo stayed the course, not hiding that he liked heroes and their morning shows.
He was not bothering anyone, and liking heroes should not be a reason to be embarrassed.
If he relented there, he would not be able to face the heroes he admired, so no matter how much others laughed, he continued wearing his interests on his sleeve.
But it was not as though being laughed at did not hurt or irritate him.
As these feelings were brought back, he spoke to a dumbfounded Neries.
“It’s strange. They didn’t know a lot about heroes, but made fun of ‘that sort of thing’? How can you treat it like that when you haven’t even watched it? I’m getting off track. I think the people making fun of you are the same.”
“Eh…?”
“They don’t know about the monster armor beasts you fought, right? How scary they were, how strong, nothing. It must be frustrating to hear them make fun of you when they’ve never even fought monster armor beasts.”
“…!!”
Yuugo heard a little about it, so he knew it was about the siblings that transformed into monster armor beasts in the insectary, that he fought.
He beat them, but he was very surprised when they transformed into what was called level two, and became even stronger.
Neries saw when they transformed into level two in the middle of a battle, and must have been quite shocked.
She knew she was going to lose, so it made sense for that shock to have amplified her fear multiple times.
“I understand. You were scared to death. Of course you would be scared in a real fight against opponents beyond your imagination. It’s only obvious.”
“…!”
Neries trembled as Yuugo hit her with those feelings directly.
Rather than fear or surprise, she was moved because Yuugo appeared to sympathize with her mental state… And Yuugo continued.
“Thank you. You’re sad and frustrated, but spoke to me. It takes courage to talk about painful things. I understand how you feel because you were brave enough to tell me.”
“Uu, uuu… Uu, uuu, uuu, uuuu!!”
Yuugo praised Neries while tapping her shoulder, bringing her to tears.
Velda and Peewee gulped a little, as Neries curled up and let out the emotions inside her in the form of bawling.
“We just wanted Neries to listen to us…”
“Yes… We were too eager, we didn’t really face her…”
Was that why they could not get close to her heart? Rather than have her listen, they should have listened. Rather than try to remove her from her room, they should have approached her.
Like Yuugo just did… They should have listened to her and heard the root of her pain, they thought as they heard a voice from the entrance.
