The picture book that Miss Lan and the others made is slowly spreading to other people in the village.
There aren’t enough copies for everyone yet, so people have to take turns reading it, but Miss Lan is very happy to see that people like it.
My daily life seems about the same as always, but it’s actually slowly changing. I really feel this on the day before my birthday.
I’m one year older on my birthday, but I honestly don’t feel any different on my birthday than the day before.
Today’s my eleventh birthday. The first day of the month of the sky god.
My birthday is here again. I never thought of this day as a fun day until I was abandoned. It was always my birthday, but it was a day of celebration for my sister.
But now it’s different. I look forward to my birthday every year.
Everyone tells me thank you for being born and happy birthday. I can’t help but be happy on this day.
Now that I think about it, it was right before my birthday last year that I stopped saying I’m probably the miko and accepted that I am the miko. I still doubt myself sometimes, but I really am the miko. There’s just too much that would have no explanation if I wasn’t.
I can’t say that this last year has been turbulent or anything, but I do feel like my state of mind has changed. When Miss Lan first told me I’m the miko, I didn’t expect I’d eventually accept it like I do now.
Grandma was here last year too, but she passed away. I’m not the only one that gets older, and as the years pass, people older than me probably get closer to death.
Thinking about this makes me feel gloomy, but for a kid like me, getting older is nice. When I become an adult, the amount of things I can do will increase too, and I’ll be able to help more.
We had to say goodbye to some people last year, but there are new people celebrating my birthday this year too.
Phyto and her people, and Mister Villa and the other winged people are here, and of course, so are Mister Ilma and Miss Shehan.
Miss Lan says she wants to have a big celebration on my birthday, because I’m the miko, and an important person in this village.
She wants my birthday to have a bigger celebration than anyone else’s, to make sure the people that are new here understand that I’m an important person.
“It suits you perfectly Lerunda!”
Because of this, I’m wearing a dress that’s different than anything I’ve ever worn.
Apparently it was made with a lot of materials found around here by a group of women beast people and elves.
Honestly, I had no idea this was being made until today. They kept it a secret from me.
Phyto and Mister Ilma didn’t know about it either, and apparently they complained because they wanted to be a part of whatever was going on too.
I was surprised the first time I saw this blue dress. It’s easy to move in this because of the way they worked on certain spots.
There’s a rose patterned ornament around the chest area. I’m not sure if this sort of thing suits me, but Miss Lan says with full confidence that it does.
She says this is one of their birthday presents to me.
I can’t help but feel weird about having a big celebration just for me, but I’m going to live as the miko, and I’m told it’s best to have a big celebration because our village might become a country one day, so I accept it.
I don’t think that far ahead, so I think it’s great that Miss Lan, Mister Dongu, and Mister Sileva do.
The gryphons, Scifo, Freinet, Gaius, and Phyto are with me. They’re all people that formed a contract with me, and ‘knights of the miko’.
Gaius isn’t in his regular form. He’s in his big wolf form as some sort of performance.
There’s a stage set up, just like during the singing festival, and Miss Lan takes me there.
“Today is the birthday of the miko, Lerunda. Let us all celebrate!”
Says Miss Lan loudly. I should greet everyone first, and even though I don’t really know what to say, I step forward and start talking.
“Thank you for coming here today to celebrate my birthday. Just hearing you say happy birthday… Makes me happy. Thank you so much.”
I just say thank you and express how happy I am.
And with that, the birthday celebrations begin.
