Scavenger slime surged into the room through the broken door.
“C-close the door!”
Screamed Rihalzam.
“W-we can’t!”
Yelled back one of the apprentices.
The collapsed door was completely covered in scavenger slime, and was already in bits. Scavenger slime loved to consume inorganic matter, corpses, and excretion.
Usually it was not something that would put people’s lives in danger. In fact, the slime that was entering the room was swarming the materials and equipment left on the floor.
“Kuh… Just attack it with something!”
Yelled Sabasa with the device to check magic circuits in hand.
He activated the device and created a sword of flames. He swung the sword horizontally at scavenger slime, and evaporated it along with the equipment it was consuming. The fumes left filled the room with a rotten smell.
“Hey! That wooden box has the magic circuits we need to deliver. Stop!”
Yelled Rihalzam to the apprentices who were following Sabasa in attacking the slime.
Rihalzam ran towards the wooden box, and a scavenger slime just happened to be sliding the same way. He stepped on the elastic and viscous slime, and his plump body was thrown forward into a mass of scavenger slime. The soft bodies of the slime actually softened his fall, but he soon found himself sinking into it.
The apprentices were attacking other scavenger slime, but rushed over to Rihalzam, grabbed a leg that stuck out, and pulled him.
Rihalzam escaped from the slime, but the clothes he put on earlier were now soaked with slime and had holes. This also made his body stink again.
The apprentices let go of the violently coughing Rihalzam and exchanged looks silently. They got as far away from him as possible and continued attacking the slime.
It was then that the people in charge of security finally came running and helped the apprentices fight the scavenger slime.
By the time they finished dealing with all the scavenger slime and cleaning most of the mess, the sky was bright.
The wooden box with the magic circuits appeared to be safe, but one slime did manage to slip into it.
This slime was dealt with by the people in charge of security, but some magic circuits had parts of them melted and eaten.
The people of the arms transmutation department were unaware of this, and Rihalzam had already dragged his slimy body out of the room.
The apprentices looked at each other. They looked exhausted, and had bags under their eyes. The sun shined on their faces and they felt the refreshing morning wind through holes in the wall opened by scavenger slime.
“Skihni, this is important. Deliver the magic circuits to the arms association first thing in the morning.”
The newest member of the arms transmutation department saw this duty pushed on to her by her exhausted seniors.
Skihni did as she was told, and prepared to deliver the magic circuits to the arms association without checking them even once.

Uh oh. Delivering defective goods to the army in a time of war?
Oh boy. Don’t know about this fantasy world, but in reality, doing that merits a courts martial, and depending on severity, a nice firing squad.
