The next day, Elga, Luna, and Tiltue come by to have breakfast like always, so we tell them what happened last night.
“Ah… So that Wilhelmina was here…”
Says Elga, sounding exasperated.
“So you do know her.”
“I don’t think there’s anyone living on this island for a long time that hasn’t heard of that granny.”
According to Elga, Wilhelmina Vermilion Worheim is the oldest even among the races on this island that live a long time.
She competed for the title of strongest being on this island even back when Elga’s ancestor, divine beast Fenrir, and Tiltue’s divine dragon Bahamut, were alive. She’s a monster even on this island where the strongest races are gathered.
That’s who that blonde girl that came here last night really is.
“She didn’t look it…”
“She looks like a kid, but she’s dangerous. Once she sets her eyes on you…”
Says Elga, before abruptly stopping. Then he trembles like he just remembered something.
Elga is a divine beast warrior, so it goes without saying that he’s confident in his strength, but it’s almost like he’s scared.
Is she really that dangerous? But then Luna, who is sitting diagonally in front of me eating soup, raises her head like she just remembered something.
“Now that I think about it, Elga married Miss Livia after Wil kept prodding him about it.”
“Stop it Luna… I don’t want to remember that…”
“Eh… It’s a nice story…”
Luna says with her head on the table while dangling her legs. It looks like she really wants to tell that story.
“Married?”
“Yes. Elga got married.”
“Why are you lookin’ at me like that? I got married, so what?”
“Nothing, it’s just…”
“Right?”
We’ve been living on this island for a month, and Elga’s been coming here to eat pretty much every day.
That doesn’t mean he’s here from dawn to dusk, but he’s here a lot.
And now that I know he has a wife, I can’t help but feel like that’s a problem.
“H-hn! Don’t worry. She doesn’t know ’bout it yet.”
“Eh? But Miss Livia asked Luna before we left what we’ve been doing every day, and Luna told her we’ve been coming here to eat.”
Elga clears his throat awkwardly, before Luna speaks those words without a hint of malice. The moment Elga hears that, he stops completely.
“Hey Luna… How could you…!?”
“What? We just have to invite her here too. You’re always looking after us, so it only makes sense for us to serve your wife a nice meal too.”
“N-no! If you call her here, that’s the end of my peace!”
Elga looks flustered. He’s a relatively calm guy when he’s not eating, but he’s looking pretty shaken right now. It’s like he was caught cheating.
“Is your home environment not the best?”
“No, I think he’s just embarrassed. Miss Livia loves him a loooot.”
“Hey Luna! Be quiet!”
I see. He likes to come across as a tough guy, but he probably shows another side of himself at home. As a friend, that’s most definitely something I want to see.
“What’s with that face, Arata? Just so you know, there’s no funny business going on or anything!”
“I didn’t say anything.”
“I’m talkin’ ’bout that grin! Anyway, we don’t need to call Livia here or…”
“What about me?”
Elga’s mouth instantly stops.
We hear a female voice I haven’t heard before, and when we turn to look, we see a woman that makes me think of a beautiful ocean, with an emerald color ponytail.
She’s wearing eastern style clothes that look easy to move in, that I’m guessing is the regular outfit of the divine beast people, and makes her give off a calm impression.
All the girls I’ve met on this island so far look underage, but she looks to be around her early twenties. There’s a bit of an air of seductiveness about her too.
“Livia… W-why are you here?”
“I was curious because you go out every day… Yes, and I didn’t think you were cheating because of what Luna said or anything. But what should I do about this feeling of being disrespected by my husband…?”
“W-what disrespect!?”
“You said there was no need to call me here, didn’t you? Am I not worthy of being introduced to others?”
“Ah, no, hum…”
She brings the sleeve of her kimono up to her face, and acts like she’s crying. Elga keeps looking around like he doesn’t know what to do.
And Reina is next to me, looking at him with cold eyes. Maybe she empathizes as a woman.
Incidentally, the other two girls here, Luna and Tiltue, don’t care at all about this morning soap opera drama, and keep on eating.
…I want to join them.
“Ah, hum… She’s my wife.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you. I am Livia, Elga’s wife.”
Elga introduces Livia bluntly, before she gracefully introduces herself while bowing.
She says she’s a divine beast with Leviathan as an ancestor. I can actually see what looks like a dragon’s tail behind her
My idea of Leviathan is that it’s a mythical dragon that’s said to live in the sea, but apparently she lives on land. Well, I’ll just assume that’s a difference between divine beast people and actual divine beasts.
“My name is Arata, and this is Reina.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Livia. Elga is always looking after us.”
After a short introduction, we talk about how we met Elga, and she looks entranced as she listens to stories about her husband.
It looks like Luna was right, she really does love Elga.
She says she came here because she thought Elga has been acting strange lately.
“He never used to go out much, so at first I thought my husband might be cheating on me, and if that was the case, I might as well walk into the ocean and drag him along with me…”
“Then it’d be just me dying…”
It’s starting to feel like she loves him a bit too much.
That said, her love feels real, although Elga is standing next to me with a bitter expression on his face.
“So it turns out you made some new friends. Good grief, you could have just said that and I would have welcomed them.”
“It’s fine, we just eat here all the time.”
“That’s not fine! Apparently you have been joining them on their meals and bothering them! Having them look after you so much is a disgrace to me as a wife! Please you two, come to our house and let us receive you there!”
Livia is too fired up to take anything back.
We were planning to go to where the divine beast people live anyway, so having one more person willing to welcome us there is good. But according to Elga, there are also people there who won’t be so welcoming.
And as I’m thinking about that, I see a shady smile forming on her face.
“Ufufu… If anyone wants to mess with my husband’s friends, I will throw them into a whirlpool…”
Scary…
I look at Elga, and he looks exasperated.
“That’s enough Livia, go home for today.”
“Geez dear, what is the rush?”
“She’s right Elga. I want to talk more. And Luna and Tiltue are here too anyway.”
It looks like Reina and Livia hit it off before I knew it, and are both putting pressure on Elga. Guys are weak to this sort of thing, and Elga is no exception, so it works.
And so, Livia and Reina keep chatting for a while, and eventually Luna and Tiltue join in. That leaves us feeling awkward.
Elga and I are bored, so we go for a walk in the forest while he tells me about things that are edible.
“These mushrooms are really tricky, so be careful if you’re gonna eat them.”
“Yes, but how are they tricky?”
“They make your lust a lot stronger.”
“…Should we pluck them all?”
I’m pretty sure these things would be a disaster right now. I don’t think this body can be poisoned, but I also don’t know its scope.
“By the way… About that granny you met last night…”
“Granny… Wilhelmina?”
I’m wondering why he’s bringing that up all of a sudden, and then I see him picking a mushroom with a serious expression on his face. They have kind of an obscene shape, and I don’t really want to look at them too much, but he shows it to me.
“Livia fed me a lot of these because she suggested it, and… I only came to after it was all over…”
“…”
“Watch yourself. She’ll do anything to entertain herself, and if she has her eyes on you, that’s gonna be trouble for sure.”
“Yes… I’ll be careful.”
I did get the impression last night that we’ll be seeing her again. But I also got the feeling that she’s more interested in Reina than in me.
It looked like she fed on our feelings as man and woman, so if by any chance we do end up getting into that sort of relationship, that’d be big trouble for sure.
I’m thinking we’re going to need to have a nice talk about that, next time Wilhelmina comes here.
