With Tiltue’s misunderstanding cleared, we have a roasted meat party like always.
Dragon meat is great, even compared to the meat I’ve eaten so far. I can’t help but make a low sound, because to me at least, it surpasses even the emperor boar meat.
According to Katima, they’re hard to catch, and after consulting Reina, we’ve agreed to bring it out from now on when something good happens.
Tiltue and Luna want to eat more, but if we tell them that if we use really tasty things as a reward, they become even tastier, and they understand.
Even though they’re still drooling.
And after this, a week goes by.
“It’s over…”
It took about a month, but the path from our home to the beast people’s village is just about perfect.
Katima and Reina have been clearing the path, and I’ve been collecting the trees with storage magic.
And as we walk, we clean up the former animal path with earth magic, to the point where a wagon could pass through it and not shake.
I take a good look at the finished path.
“Yes, perfect.”
“Yes… Honestly, we didn’t have paths this clean on the continent. You really are incredible.”
“No no, everyone here is.”
It’s because everyone fulfilled their roles that we finished so quickly.
Let’s assume me, who still can’t control magic very well, was doing it.
I might have gotten it done even faster, but I would’ve just blown it all away and stuff like the width of the path would’ve been a mess.
It’s because of Katima’s skill with the axe and Reina’s precise magic for example, that we have such a civilized path.
Suddenly, I feel someone tugging at my clothes. I turn to look, and see Katima’s simultaneously unemotional and full of confidence face looking up at me.
“Arata, Katima really did great.”
“Yes, Katima really is a girl that can do anything she puts her mind to.”
“Fufufu…”
I say to her after she sings her own praises, and she smiles happily.
And it wasn’t just Reina and Katima. They’re not here now, but Xellos and Merlin played a part in creating this path.
Their magic control is well beyond mine in terms of maturity. In this way, there is a big difference between someone who copies magic, and people who trained it to the point of being called one of the seven great mages.
…Maybe I should ask Reina to teach me proper magic.
“Well, in any case, this will make it easier for us to visit the beast people’s village and vice-versa.
Now we just have to make sure monsters don’t wreck it…
“That’s fine.”
“Is it?”
“Yes, this path has your magic energy. Monster will be too scared to get close.”
“I see, that’s a relief.”
I’ve heard before that monsters on this island are sensitive to strong presences.
I guess that’s the way of life on an island with overwhelmingly strong presences like the divine beast people and ancient dragons.
And since my presence is being made known throughout this island too, monsters don’t tend to get near.
The ones that do come are either idiots with confidence in their own strength, or idiots who aren’t careful.
That means that god’s power allows Reina and the others to safely cross this path alone.
“Now I can visit the divine beast people’s village with no issue. Up until now, you always had to come along.”
“I didn’t really mind.”
“I did.”
Every time Reina went there to trade ingredients, I went with her. But now Reina, Xellos, and Merlin can go there on their own if they want to.
Of course, I don’t mind going with her, so I don’t want her to feel reserved about that, but she’s probably feeling self-conscious about us always being together, even in private.
“In any case, it’s looking good.”
This used to be an animal trail that was largely untouched by the sun due to the tall trees. Now the sun is brightly shining on the ground, and I feel like I can see it shining.
We’ve done a lot since we came here. Build a house, make a path to the river, etc, but nothing on such a large scale.
This marks a stopping point, and now…
◇ ◇ ◇
After returning home, we start making preparations.
This place was flattened when the emperor boar attacked, so it’s a pretty big open space.
That means there’s more than enough space for Luna and Tiltue, and Krr and Grr to run around.
“Well then, let’s finish preparing before their stomachs start growling from playing around.”
“Yes. We have plenty of ingredients.”
Now that the path is complete, we’re having a party to celebrate.
Xellos and Merlin went off to get water, and Katima went with them as their guard. Not that the path to the river is dangerous.
And Reina and I are preparing to receive the divine beast people that are coming here.
That said, Reina is handling the cooking, so I’m mostly just setting up everything.
They held a banquet for us, so we have to match that too.
Elga says he doesn’t care, but I think we should be respectful to each other.
“Well, we can’t possibly make enough for everyone, but…”
We talked about this with them, and only the divine beast people will be coming today. We just can’t receive all the beast people.
They’ve always been friendly to us, but surely this will shorten the distance between us even further.
If that happens, we can probably throw in my knowledge from Earth and have fun together.
And above all else, the more people we have, the more ties we have, the more we can do.
“I’m looking forward to it.”
While we were working on the path, Elga taught me things like making furniture with wood.
I can’t cut them very precisely yet, but at least I don’t think they’re wobbly.
I just made simple stuff, but I want to tackle more stylish things in the future. And it might be fun to try sketching them first too.
I feel like we started out just trying to make our lives easier, but lately we’ve only been thinking about how to make things more fun.
“Arata, are you done?”
“Yes, spot on.”
Reina smiles broadly as she looks at the grounds.
A little far away, we can see Xellos and Merlin hard at work too.
“Well then, let’s have a fun party.”
“Of course!”
We light the campfire in the center, and get ready for a rowdy day and night.
