Walking in another world – Chapter 296 – Golem production – Part one

It’s the night of the day we left Nahal. We walked all day, but apparently no one else is heading to the ruins, because we didn’t pass by a single person.

I even checked the direction where we’re heading using Map, but I didn’t see any reactions.

I figure that in that case, I should continue working on the golems, slowly and steadily, so I can have them ready before I actually need them.

Everyone rests after dinner, and I use that time how I want too.

First, the cores. Then I ask for some advice about it, and get to work on the skeletal structures. I’m making them light and sturdy, but as much as I wish I could make them out of mithril, I just don’t have it.

Instead, I use the Creation skill to make something as close to it as possible.

Then there’s the actual meat of the golems. I use dirt for that.

And they’re done. One humanoid golem, and one made to look like a wolf that walks on four legs.

“Not bad.”

If I may say so myself. Once I use Life Granting and tell them to move, they’re slow, but do walk.

I turn around, as if saying ‘how’s that?’ but for some reason, the reaction from the girls is pretty tepid.

“Master, it’s iffy.”

“It’s just a trial run. I’m going to keep doing it and learning, and eventually they’ll be faster.”

I stress to Hikari that this is just the start, but she still doesn’t seem impressed.

Yes, they’re slow compared to the dolls Mia made. It’s because of the magic energy they use, and the weight of the materials.

So I just need to keep making them better.

“Sora, I don’t think Hikari is talking about how they move.”

Says Mia. What is it then?

“Yes, I’m not sure about those.”

“Rurika is right. It’s hard to believe they were made by the same person who made those accessories for us.”

Says Chris, so I look at the golems again. I don’t really see what the problem…

“Master, they’re lame!”

Hikari delivers the coup de grace, and everyone nods with awkward smiles.

“They look kind of bad.”

“You called them golems, right? I’d think they were monsters, or maybe very suspicious people. You better use them where people can’t see them.”

Mia and Sera’s words worry me quite a bit.

Of course, I made them to keep watch when we camp, so it’s not really a problem if they look bad.

But then Sera and Rurika start discussing it, and point out things I can fix to make them move better, like places with too much dirt, and I do see how their shapes could influence that.

But there’s a problem. Afterwards I make another golem just to practice, and try to do it in that way, but fail. Well, maybe if I put more time into it I could…

But according to Hikari, this is taking time away from cooking, so I look for skills.

It’s not like I care about them telling me they look lame or uncool…

NEW

(Shaping Lv1) (Absorption Lv1)

Shaping speeds up golem production, and apparently allows me to understand the shape and structure of human and animal bodies. That’s probably what I lack right now.

Absorption, as the name implies, lets me absorb magic energy. I got this to collect leftover magic energy in golem cores.

I got this after trying to put one of the failed experiments in the Item Box and failing. Apparently they can’t go in the Item Box if there’s still magic energy in the cores. This skill might come in handy for that.

But learning this skill also leads to a happy accident.

For example, if I spend five MP to absorb magic energy, I get one MP back. It’s so little because it’s still level one, but I imagine that as I level up the skill, it’s going to go well beyond the amount of MP I spend.

And what if I infused a sword or something with this skill? Could I make a weapon with a drain effect?

I figure there might be more useful skills if I look for them, but there’s no point in learning them if I don’t use them, so I stop at two.

I don’t even know if some of the skills I learned before are even usable.
