I feel magic energy swelling, and the magic item is activated.
The flow of magic energy I felt in the throne room is filling the temple.
But Elizabeth is smiling. I feel danger on an instinctual level, but before I can urge the others to be careful, it happens.
The quality of the magic energy changes, and creates an impact like an explosion.
I close my eyes automatically, and hear yells all over the place.
Once I slowly open my eyes, I see about eighty percent of the demons on the floor, and my body shivers. Some of them received fatal damage.
“Fufufu, one who knows very little, repeats it. Did you think that would work on me again?”
Elizabeth says with a scornful laugh.
“How about we end this? As you can see, I am busy. I have a demon king to kill, and a lot to do after that… Hm…”
She looks around, and her eyes meet mine.
“Oh right, there is an otherworlder here. But… If I tell them of your death, your friends will regret it. Defying a goddess, that is.”
She says, sounding happy, like she just found one more thing to look forward to.
“And after bothering me so much, I will make her the next demon king. The current demon king’s little sister.”
I clench my fists tightly, but exhale deeply.
I can’t let my emotions carry me. If I react, I’ll just make her happy.
That woman messes with people’s hearts using words, and corners them. It’s like a sort of weapon to guide the others’ movements.
If I let anger lead me to move in a simple way, it just plays to her advantage.
And so, I tell myself I need to control my emotions and stay cool.
“Oh? How patient. Is it because you’re special? Regardless, I will dispose of you along with the demons.”
She says as she decapitates a nearby demon.
The demon’s corpse turns to dust, and part of what feels like a remnant of magic energy disappears into the transparent box.
The other part is sucked into Ignis’ sword.
Elizabeth continues, cutting corpses too, and absorbing remnants of magic energy every time.
Ignis, Ou, and the other surviving demons fight back, but aren’t a match for her, and are blown back. And Elizabeth continues cutting the weakened demons and the corpses.
I try to fight up close to stop her too, but her spear won’t let me. So I try to approach the demons to heal them, but she won’t let me do that either.
“Now now, your friends are dying one after the other.”
It really does sound like she’s having fun.
But that continues only until seventy percent of the demons are dead.
It looks like she’s feeling something is wrong, and when she crosses swords with Ignis, she frowns.
“What did you do?”
“What do you mean?”
“Playing dumb, are we? Then I will make sure with this!”
Elizabeth hits Ignis with all she has, but he stops the attack without being flung back.
And then, Windsor and the others attack. Elizabeth can’t handle it and starts moving back, as wounds start piling up on her limbs.
But they just look like scratches, and are healed pretty quickly.
No, surprisingly, that’s not happening. And even though Ignis and the others were being overpowered this whole time, they are now fighting Elizabeth on equal terms.
“I-I see.”
Whispers Elizabeth after disposing of another corpse.
“Sacrificing comrades to increase your power… How awful.”
“…”
Ignis and the others don’t respond, and keep swinging their swords and using magic.
But I stop when I hear that, and use Telepathy to talk to Ignis.
‘What does she mean by sacrifice?’
‘…It’s what it sounds. We have made it so if our power is reduced and the goddess kills us, that power will be transferred to those of us that remain.’
‘So you fought with the assumption that you’d die!?’
‘What are you mad about? We were ready for that before we came here.’
Says Ignis plainly, in response to my anger. So, the same as before.
Thinking back, I came here ready to kill the goddess, but allies… I wasn’t ready to see acquaintances die.
“Young man, are you all right?”
“Ou… Yes, are you?”
I turn around, and see Ou.
His clothes are ripped in places, and I see traces of wounds on his exposed arm.
“Hm, are you talking with Ignis again?”
“…”
“Yes, I understand that what we do is incomprehensible to you. It looks like suicide. But we don’t die when we die, and live for too long. And during that long life, we see friends, important people die. That is why everyone feels so strongly about settling things here, now that we have the chance.”
“Does the same go for you, Ou?”
Unlike Ignis’, I feel a real weight behind Ou’s words. Is that because of his way of speaking?
“That also goes for me. If I can make that disappear, I will. I am saying all is fine, as long as she cannot descend on that world anymore.”
Ou says, as he looks at me with a firm expression.
“So, I’m sorry, but can you help us?”
“That’s why I came here, but can I…”
Honestly, I can’t participate in this battle at all.
I can’t get past the spear to get close, and her power is just too great.
All I can do is heal and support.
“Hm, then break that. It seems to be the source of the goddess’ power.
Says Ou while pointing at the transparent box.
Yes, it does look suspicious, but is something that stands out so much really her weak point?
If all there is to it is to attack it, I can do that.
And with questions in my mind, I do as Ou says and attack it.

Thanks for the treat.
Thanks for the update, always well worth the read.
Also reading the last few chapters why doesn’t our MC use his guns to kill the goddess, you would think seeing he used them on the orcs he would at least try using them on the goddess.
Yeah he doesn’t use his gun for a long time
