The immense power of the great sword was immediately apparent.
It was a crimson blade that cut down the demons attacking people, so Yuugo named it just that.
Narul tried to calm her panicking heart, and yelled at him.
“W-what Zanma Guren Blade!? You can try to give it a name you think is cool, but it’s still just a stupid big sword! You didn’t cut any branches! If I want to, I can regenerate…!?”
Even after being faced with a strange new weapon, in the end, it was just a big sword.
Much like how she regenerated the branch cut by Egos’ axe, she just had to use the trent’s overflowing magic energy and vitality to regenerate these… But for some reason, even though she was pouring magic energy, it was not happening.
“W-why!? Why aren’t they regenerating!?”
“Look at where the branches were cut. Do you get it?”
Narul went half mad due to the panic, but then she did as Yuugo said, and looked at the cuts.
What she saw, were smoking black scorches.
Before, Narul regenerated by activating the cells on the cut via magic energy, making the branch grow beyond that.
But that would not work with those burns. The cells there were dead, so there was nothing to activate.
Narul did not understand the principles behind the branches’ regeneration… But seeing this was enough to tell her something was not right.
Regardless of whether or not she understood why, she saw the cut branches were not regenerating, making her unable to contain her impatience.
“Damn you…! I hate you! You keep getting in my way and hurting me! Get lost get lost get lost get lost!!”
“…I can’t. At least not until I’ve saved your hostage.”
Yuugo responded silently as Narul sent out even more branches, and he grasped his Zanma Guren Blade.
He gently kicked Skull’s torso as a signal, and faced the branches as the flames swung.
“Here’s the headliner. Can you take the storm of applause?”
“Uuuu!?”
The giant sword was swung sideways, blowing away the branches as thick as logs that were attacking.
The hot blade spread sparks like cherry blossoms that slowly fell, as Skull ran like the wind.
“D-don’t come! I hate scary violent guys like you!!”
“What a coincidence, I hate girls who use children as shields like it’s no problem like you!”
One branch went down, then another, as Narul lost her means of attacking.
With her regenerative ability sealed, Narul was at a loss as to how to counterattack, and simply tried fruitlessly to attack to keep Yuugo from reaching her.
Rather than using flames to burn his opponent, Yuugo used a sword with a lot of mass to carry those flames. With this big boost in destructive power, his power was immeasurable.
But… Hao whispered, vocalizing the doubt and worry he had on his mind.
“What are you going to do, Yuugo? Swing a sword that size to save Shiroi…?”
Zanma Guren Blade was pretty much the meta game answer to Narul’s trent. The destructive power of the flaming blade was also effective at sealing the regenerative ability, but… It had the weakness of being unwieldy.
It was impossible to perform precise movements with a sword that big, so it would be extremely hard to free Shiroi without harming him.
It would be impossible to do so on horseback in the first place… So Hao wondered what Yuugo had in mind, before he remembered what he said before.
‘I don’t plan to fight alone from beginning to end, but I have to stop it from going over there.’
Hao now understood Yuugo had no intention of saving Shiroi by himself.
First, he would use Zanma Guren Blade to bring the flow of the battle to his side, and keep fighting Narul to make her focus on him.
Thanks to his efforts, she had much fewer branches than before.
Now… It might be possible to slip past her defenses and rescue Shiroi.
“Hao? What is it?”
Asked Precia, as Hao took a step forward.
Her voice made him stop, but he turned around… And spoke with his clenched fists shaking.
“I’ll take responsibility. I’m the one who has to do this…!”
Shiroi was taken hostage because he acted emotionally. That was all the reason he needed to feel he had to save him.
He could not make Yuugo fight alone… And with that resolve in his heart, he took a deep breath, and took off running towards Shiroi.
