Classes were starting again after a long pause… But there were no classes that day… Not that this was unusual.
All that happened was that classes were reorganized, so Yuugo ended up in the same class as Melt and Marcos, and students were forbidden from starting duels all on their own.
The former was nice, but the latter was a natural consequence of Isaac’s rampage and going overboard with bets surrounding materials.
The teachers said it was normal when classes started in a new semester, so it would take a few days.
And so, once they were done for the day, Yuugo made his way to the third exercise area, along with Melt, who was also called.
Marcos was angry about being the only one of this trio who was not called, but as they arrived at their destination, Yuugo asked Melt a question.
“By the way, what’s a training ground? Is it different from a training area?”
“A training ground is an area that’s meant to replicate the conditions of actual battle, I guess? It’s larger than a training area and can fit a lot of students, and apparently it’s where whole classes train.”
“Eh… I see…!”
Yuugo stepped into the training ground while hearing Melt’s loose but easy to understand explanation. And as he saw many other students there, he realized they were not the only ones who were called.
After hearing Melt’s explanation and seeing all these students gathered by the teachers, it was easy to see something was going on. The problem was figuring out what it was, and what was the criteria being employed here for the students called. But as Yuugo thought that, he heard a voice he recognized.
“Hn? Isn’t that Yuugo? Why are you here?”
“Ah… It’s you…!”
Yuugo raised his head, hearing his name being called with a disagreeable tone, and saw Shian and Egos.
Both had with them students that seemed to be their friends, who also looked at Yuugo with far from friendly eyes.
They seemed to be whispering to each other, as Shian and Egos approached Yuugo and Melt and spoke without any attempt to hide their hatred.
“Why is something like you here? If you’re lost, you can leave Melt and go. We have things to do here today.”
“We were called by Mister Castle, of course. We don’t know what we’re doing here, but we’re supposed to be here, you know?”
“Wha…!? Scum like you in this gathering…!? No way…!?”
Scum again, thought Yuugo as he grimaced at Shian.
It would be one thing if he did something to warrant this resentment, like with Hao, but there was no reason why Shian kept calling him scum ever since he started high school. Yuugo felt exasperated, but then Egos said something he could not believe.
“Now now Shian, let’s think about this. We didn’t expect him to come here, but it’s nice that he got here before the teachers did. That means we can drive him out.”
“Ah…? What did you…!?”
Yuugo squinted at what Egos was implying, and was speechless as he saw him, Shian, and all their minions getting ready to fight.
By drive out, they mean beat him out of there. Once Yuugo understood this, he also got into position and spoke.
“What are you doing? Didn’t they just warn us that students couldn’t just start duels?”
“Well, I guess so… But you were the one who started acting violent first, so what could we do? We didn’t really understand what was going on, but we don’t like violent scum, so we had to stop you. We were just defending ourselves.”
“Yuugo got violent first… What are you talking about!? You’re going to make up stuff to make Yuugo out to be the bad guy!? They’re not going to let you get away with that!”
What Melt said made sense, but… Yuugo felt like they would.
Many people there seemed to be looking at Yuugo with hostility. If they got involved, they could very well make it so Yuugo was in the wrong.
Regardless of what Melt said, Yuugo was seen as scum, and Shian and Egos as hero prospects. It was clear whose word held more credibility.
If everyone there conspired against him, they could very well beat him and make him take the blame for it… Egos had a nasty smile on his face, as if he was being given the chance to get back at Yuugo for his previous humiliation, when suddenly, a voice echoed that seemed completely unconcerned with this tense atmosphere.
“Yuugo? What are you doing?”
“Y-you…!?”
“Ryuuga!!”
Yuugo and the others saw Ryuuga just as he passed through the door, and he walked over to Yuugo with a gentle smile.
He stood next to Yuugo, and asked Shian and Egos a question while keeping the other students in check with his eyes.
“…Do you have a problem with the one who helped my sister? I might be able to solve it instead… What do you say?”
“Uu…!?”
A heavy but sharp pressure assaulted Shian and Egos. It was like a sharp katana was being pressed against their necks. They could do nothing but groan, but… Shian still mustered up the spirit to speak to Ryuuga with an annoyed tone.
“A-are you sure about this? That guy’s the biggest scum in this academy. You’re gonna regret being his friend! Are you sure about this!?”
He tried his best to get these words out, but rather than a threat, it just sounded like the pathetic grumbles of petty small fry.
Ryuuga did not budge, continuing to look at him… And spoke with a quiet but sharp tone.
“I will warn you only once. Don’t ask me questions.”
“Guh…”
This time, Shian really was completely overpowered by the intense pressure, and Ryuuga turned his eyes to the other students.
All of them turned away, and as he saw the turmoil dying down, Ryuuga turned to Yuugo.
“Yuugo, and you too, how about we talk over there? I would be happy if you came with me, since I have no one else I can talk to.”
