Meanwhile, the boy who was completely and totally rejected by Melt, sat alone in the waiting room of the duel arena and bit his nails while mumbling like a madman.

In the end, he managed to make it seem like Yuugo used some sort of trick to increase his strength, but… It meant nothing if the person he wanted to believe it the most, Melt, got away from him.

He could not care less about the rabble of mob students. He had to charm the characters that could join his party, especially the ones that were particularly cute even among them.

The characters trusted him because of his main character charisma, starting with Claire, so why did it fail to work on Melt? The irritated Zenon stomped his feet in frustration, when…

“E-excuse me…!”

“Hn…?”

Zenon heard a knock on the door and someone’s voice, and immediately pulled Seto Haino back and put on the skin of Zenon Ash, main character of Luminous History.

The door opened with a clanking noise, and Rush, the one who lost his duel with Yuugo, came in with his face clearly bruised.

Zenon saw some nervousness in his face, and stood up to welcome him in an exaggerated fashion.

“Rush! How are your wounds? You were beaten pretty badly…”

“Y-yes, I’m fine. But letting the people supporting me see that shameful sight was so embarrassing…”

“Don’t worry about that. You lost because Yuugo cheated. Everyone knows that. If only I had come here faster, I would have exposed that foul play…”

Zenon clenched his fists and acted angry, as he told Rush the same delusions he spread to the other students.

That moment, Rush’s face turned brighter, and he looked at Zenon with pleading eyes as he spoke.

“I knew it…! I lost because that scum cheated!!”

“Exactly! I know how strong you are! If Yuugo didn’t work up some scheme, there’s no way you would’ve lost!”

(…That’s actually true. He has good stats, for the start of the game at least.)

Rush Winhelm was a character that could become a party member after the prologue.

He had a high attack value, and plenty of moves due to possessing two magic items, so he was a great party member to support the battle line in the early stages.

…But only in the early stages. As the story progressed, his abilities became progressively lacking.

His attack power was surpassed by various characters, starting with the main character, and around the middle portion of the game, most characters learned high level skills anyway. He was the kind of character that burned out early.

That meant he was not all that useful in the eyes of Zenon, and him being a stuffy male just meant that adding him to his party would become a bother. Zenon had no intention to do so.

However, Zenon knew that at that point at least, he had stats comparable to the main character, so it could not hurt to increase his favorability.

And so, Zenon grabbed Rush’s shoulder, and displayed his main character charisma as he looked him straight in the eye and threw him words that tickled his self-esteem.

“Rush, believe in yourself. You lost to an unfair tactic this time, but you’d win in a fair fight. You’re strong, Rush. You wouldn’t lose to scum like Yuugo.”

“Ooh…! Yes! Hearing that from you makes me feel more confident! All right! I’ll challenge him again right…”

“Wawawa! Hold a minute! If you do that, you’re just going to fall to the same trick, right? First we need to expose his trickery. I want to ask you to watch him for that very reason. Report to me if you find evidence of his wrongdoings. Let’s beat that scum together and bring peace back to the academy!”

That was good. It seemed weird things were continuing to happen around him, and since Yuugo was at the center of it, he was clearly up to something.

It would be nice if he could observe him directly, but… He had the sublime duty to make a harem with his favorite characters. If he neglected that, the other reincarnated students would take them away, and he could not have that.

And so, he decided to use Rush to watch Yuugo, and lead him down that path. Rush looked back at him with a sense of duty in his eyes, and responded with a strong nod.

“Understood! Leave that to me! I’ll report right away if I find something! We are comrades who share a purpose, Zenon Ash!”

“Yes, exactly. We are comrades, Rush… Let’s cooperate and throw that scum out of our academy. We’ll make him taste the same humiliation you suffered tenfold.”

And Zenon whispered in his heart that he would repay the humiliation of being rejected by Melt and seeing her kiss him right in front of him a hundred million times.

Rush had no idea he was being used, and looked at Zenon with trust.

‘Rush Winhelm has been added to your party.’

‘Rush Winhelm’s favorability has increased. Current favorability – Trusted’

‘See? I know this game’s characters. I just have to keep going with the scenario, and if I say things to make them happy, I can easily make them like me. They’re so simple.’

Zenon chuckled in his head, once again feeling the power of the position of main character.

It was unplanned, but if he saw it as acquiring another convenient pawn, it was good… Thought Zenon as he felt just a little thankful that he got to taste a nice feeling to mend the wound on his heart caused by Melt’s rejection, and began to plan for his revenge against Yuugo.
