I might have done something I shouldn’t have, and caused embarrassment for Mister Zenon.
Today, Mister Rush and Mister Yuugo had a duel, with Miss Melt’s freedom at stake.
In the end… Mister Yuugo won. This was very surprising.
Everyone knows how high Mister Rush’s combat abilities are, and even the teachers’ eyes are drawn to how he skillfully uses two magic items.
Many people say that if he continues to evolve, he could become part of the elite magic knights that are assigned to the main office in the capital.
And Mister Yuugo beat him. And using an old model of magic item like Blaster, not Garandil.
I can’t believe it. Surely there were things going on during the duel that were beyond me, but it makes me doubt if there was not some misunderstanding.
And most people also believed Mister Yuugo must have done something unfair.
After the duel ended, Mister Zenon pointed out that possibility, and asked for the duel’s result to be made invalid. And he tried to convince Miss Melt directly.
He warned her of the danger posed by Mister Yuugo, and how dastardly and vulgar he is, but… Miss Melt completely rejected him.
In fact, she even kissed Mister Yuugo in front of that big crowd of students.
Being completely rejected after trying to convince a girl to see the truth, and watching her kiss someone he detests right before his eyes must have been incredibly humiliating for Mister Zenon.
The other students were also dumbfounded, so I feel like me saying that to Mister Zenon has lowered his stock with them.
Afterwards, there were talks about Mister Yuugo having most likely cheated during the duel, but Miss Melt’s feelings are too strong, and I feel like it would be impossible to pry her away now. Everyone seems to have reached the same conclusion.
Mister Zenon seemed heartbroken over being rejected by Miss Melt, but after talking with Mister Rush and forming a friendship with him, he seemed to have bounced back.
I guess friendship with another boy resonates more strongly in his heart than the words of a girl like me? I feel a bit hurt, and left out.
And speaking of being hurt, now that Miss Melt has rejected Mister Zenon, I feel like my hopes of being her friend have been completely dashed.
She embarrassed someone I owe so much to. If I’m to be by his side, I can’t be friends with someone like that.
It’s a shame, and it hurts, but… I don’t doubt for a second that this is the correct choice right now.
If we were to fight, I intend to make her taste the same humiliation she made Mister Zenon experience tenfold!

Twelfth day
These have been very peaceful days. It seems Mister Zenon has gotten over being rejected by Miss Melt, because he seems cheerful again.
Maybe he also decided not to interfere with Mister Yuugo and Miss Melt, because he hasn’t been watching them a lot lately.
But what really matters is having cheerful days like these. Classes will begin in earnest soon, so I have to prepare for that.
Come to think of it, I have noticed many students being very proactive in speaking to other students who have joined the academy starting in high school, other than Mister Zenon. I never really noticed them. Was I too preoccupied with Mister Yuugo?
They seem to have the same background, and get along with Mister Zenon.
He says they aren’t really his friends, but I think that’s just him not being honest.
Is this what they call being a tsundere?
But… I get a strange feeling from them, when they greet me from time to time. The same strange feeling I get from Mister Zenon. It’s like they have something others don’t. The fact that I keep feeling this makes me a little anxious.
Also, there’s something rude to the way they look at me. It reminds me of the look in Mister Yuugo’s eyes before.
Could it be… That Mister Zenon is actually telling the truth, and they are not his friends?
Maybe I should try to not be involved with them too much.

I feel like I would be writing bad things about Mister Zenon, and that would be ungrateful of me.
It’s not becoming of someone striving to be a magic knight to be writing those things behind someone’s back. I need to be careful…

I find her journal entries interesting. They give a better view of how – from the outside – many ”NPCs” are viewing and thinking about the reincarnators: Yuugo, Zenon, and the others. It has been alluded to in the earlier chapters, but it really stands out more in these chapters.
It also raises the issue that while the other reincarnators may think of challenging Zenon for Claire, she is unlikely to accept the outcome – which will further confuse them. On the other hand, she is likely to be very upset that Zenon *would* accept the outcome, that he would truly break up with her due to a duel and not even try to re-connect with her afterward. I’m not sure how she will react to that. I am also a little worried that whoever wins will not take ”no” for an answer, although this could lead to Yuugo protecting her, if the author intends for her to return to being with him (albeit in [distant] 2nd place after Melt).
