An exclusive mage who broke up with his alchemist childhood friend, wants to lead a slow life in a remote town – Chapter 100 – Blacksnake’s tears – Part one

Meanwhile, as Loyd and Sephilia fought an intense battle against White Rose, the new saintess Izekiel had a serious expression on her face.

◆ ◆ ◆

I’ve been into chocolate lately, so I think I’ll eat chocolate cake again today.

I call a servant, and request cake.

“I apologize saintess, but you had chocolate cake the other day. As the head chef, I would like you to have different kinds.”

Hm, he has a point.

I tend to get fixated on the things I like, but if they want to serve me different things, it is a saintess’ duty to oblige.

Izekiel the saintess. She intends to rule for the rest of her life as the kind saintess who cares about the people.

I nod, and wait at the table to be brought sweets.

Ten minutes later, I’m brought a three tier container I don’t know the name of, with a plate carrying colorful sweets.

The container is placed on the table in front of me.

“Saintess, this is canale.”

“I know, the ones that don’t have taste.”

“Eh…”

I ignore the bewildered chef, and cut the canale with a spoon. It’s strangely elastic, and hard to eat.

I click my tongue without thinking, and Thomas next to me says I shouldn’t do that.

I would rather eat this with my hands, but people will be taken aback if I do.

I keep the expression on my face, as I nod for no real reason while using the spoon to eat.

As expected, I don’t taste anything.

Then again, nothing in Roland does. That’s why I love chocolate so much, because the sweetness is so emphasized.

That said, I would feel bad if I didn’t empty the plate when the chef worked hard to make this.

It’s a problem that predates me being a saintess.

I finish the canale, thinking I want to get to the next one fast.

“Ahh, tell the person who made this it was good.”

“Thank you saintess. I’m sure they will be happy.”

“So what’s next?”

“The pancakes you like.”

“Pancake!? H-hurry, bring them!”

“Saintess, no.”

Thomas warns me again, but pancakes are one of the dishes from Roland I like. How could I not be excited?

A few minutes later, the pancakes arrive, but they are not the kind I’m used to seeing.

They’re usually covered in honey, but these have a black substance.

What…?

“Eh?”

“This black ingredient is red bean paste, something very expensive used in the eastern continent.”

“Red bean…”

“Is there a problem?”

It’s not like I don’t like it, but I ate way too much of it when I was going around the eastern continent with the demon king.

I ate those… Dorayaki, I think they were called, three times a day. I got fed up.

Also, it’s not accompanied by the beverage known as green tea. Dark tea doesn’t bring out its full potential.

Just knowing that, combined with not having pancakes with honey, lowers my excitement.

“No, I just had a thought. I’m happy about the pancakes.”

“Great!”

I use a knife and fork to cut it into four pieces, and eat one.

Ah, it’s good, but it really is a dorayaki…

I keep eating the Roland dorayaki, with a strange feeling annoying me.

After I’m done eating, I gracefully wipe my mouth, as a saintess should, when a priest comes running.

“Miss Izekiel! We have trouble! Come to the conference room right away!”

I look at him quizzically, but follow him.
