An exclusive mage who broke up with his alchemist childhood friend, wants to lead a slow life in a remote town – Chapter 104 – Blacksnake’s tears – Part four

“Have you thought of a way to rescue Iris?”

“Yes, of course.”

I should’ve known.

I can’t help but look at Sephilia with respect after that quick answer.

“We will sneak into the room where Ghise is, beat him as he wails, point a blade at his neck, and solve everything.”

That light in my eyes is gone.

I guess that would be the fastest way, but isn’t it too forceful?

I was picturing a better planned and more intellectual battle.

“But even if that went well, wouldn’t there be trouble after we got back to Merzelia?”

“You noticed that… I should have known.”

“I want to resolve things peacefully, so we don’t have to worry later.”

“Understood. I will use my sword as a last resort.”

As I feel scared of Sephilia because she was going to go with her sword right from the start, I remember that Iris is very important to her, so she definitely won’t forgive anyone that harms her.

“By the way, I’ve been curious about it all this time, but I’m surprised you weren’t detained or anything. Aren’t you in the same position as Iris?”

“My circumstances are special, so if I was detained, Ghise would be in trouble, since he brought me back and was the cause of it.”

“Ah, I see. It’s a tricky position.”

“And I would resist it with all I have, with my fists.”

The princess speaks with her fists.

I think she really would be difficult to contain if she went wild. She even defeated White Rose, so overpowering her with sheer numbers would cause them considerable damage.

I’m sure Roland wants to avoid that too.

“I’m concerned about Miss Iris as well, but also about you.”

“What do you mean?”

“This mess was triggered by Ghise’s thirst for revenge against you.”

“Eh?”

“At first, I thought it was White Rose’s resentment, but I was slightly off the mark. It is in fact Ghise’s resentment of you. Although I don’t know why he resents you so much.”

Says Sephilia, looking at me with a puzzled expression.

Yes, she doesn’t know about that incident. There’s no point in hiding it now, so I tell her what happened between me and Ghise.

Half a year ago, I invaded Roland’s castle and confronted Ghise.

I placed a curse on him, and stopped the invasion of Merzelia. Surely that’s where the resentment comes from.

After telling her everything, I bow to Sephilia.

“I’m sorry, I caused you all this trouble.”

“Friend, raise your head. I should be lowering mine. You braved all that danger for us, and I feel ashamed that I was unaware all this time.”

She’s not mad, instead, she bows and thanks me.

“I will treat you on par with Miss Iris going forward. Having two masters is normally not something a knight should do, but I will devote myself to you for the rest of my life not as a knight, but as a princess.”

“Devote yourself as a princess? Like becoming my spouse or something…!?”

“Eh, ah… I-it would make sense to interpret it like that. Ah, but I would not mind that at all… Wait, what am I saying?”

Sephilia’s face turns bright red.

This is getting pretty nonsensical, so she’s confused too.

But if that’s how much I mean to her, that’s not a bad thing.

She always puts Iris first, but now I’m on par with her in Sephilia’s eyes.

Leaving that spouse thing aside, she’s definitely going to play an important part in the construction of my future.

Ever since I left Ruby, I’ve put some distance between myself and the idea of having a girlfriend, but maybe it’s time to switch gears and be more proactive.

That said, there’s a mountain of problems in front of us, so I need to focus on them with all I have first.

“Sephilia, let’s take Iris back, for the sake of our future too.”

“Yes.”

We start walking again, to rescue Iris.

Ten minutes later, we reach the detached building of the Roland castle where she is.

Apparently she has other guests, as a blonde girl I don’t know is talking with the guard.

“Mumu, it’s her.”

“Her?”

“Izekiel, the new saintess of Roland.”

She notices us, and approaches us with a superficial nice smile.
