After making a vow to someone I care about, I face Izekiel.
She’s hovering in the sky, glaring at me with an emotionless face.
“Water Daedalus.”
I fire highest rank magic at her. A magic circle appears above me, a giant water dragon emerges, and it heads straight to Izekiel.
It hits her directly, but causes no damage. She put up a half-transparent magic barrier before I knew it.
It’s not very fancy, but it’s made to be efficient to the point where it can block even highest rank magic.
But that’s no reason for me to stop attacking.
This time, I cast Full Grow to strengthen myself, and do a big jump.
I also cast the flying spell Wings, and soar with the trajectory of lightning towards Izekiel.
I get behind her, and swing my staff to incapacitate her with one strike, but the impact I feel on my hands is like I just hit a hard wall.
Like before, she cast defensive magic in specific spots.
She raises her right hand like she’s going to counterattack, and unleashes a dark beam from up close.
I immediately cast a barrier that protects my whole body. The beam isn’t too powerful, but its area is really large.
If I wasn’t in the air, I would’ve probably taken damage.
In any case, I can’t let this get prolonged into a long battle that will cause a lot of damage. I need to incapacitate her quickly, like I planned at the start.
“Water Daedalus!”
I immediately fire the same spell again, and once again, Izekiel blocks it with a barrier.
But I continue releasing Water Daedalus’ magic energy.
Offensive and defensive magic clashes, filling my whole field of vision with what looks like sparks.
She shows no signs of running away, and strengthens the barrier even further to resist my magic.
I look down, and see Sephilia and Iris valiantly fighting a horde of zombies.
Mental Embodiment. Izekiel still hasn’t lifted it.
She’s blocking my Water Daedalus while continuing to dominate this area with Mental Embodiment.
What frightening magic. When it comes to purely being a mage, she’s stronger than me for sure.
Still, I can’t back down. I can’t give up no matter how hard it gets. I’ll win.
That’s how I show I’m a mage!
“Uoooooooooo!”
I howl, and throw magic with my full power.
In front of me, there’s a small change in Izekiel’s expression.
There’s a self-deprecating smile on her face, as she slowly speaks.
“Do your best.”
I can’t hear her, but that’s what it feels like she’s saying.
I don’t know why she’s saying that. Maybe she knows what she’s doing is wrong.
But resistance starts to crumble before I can know the truth. My attack pierces her barrier, and a torrent of magic energy engulfs her.
Izekiel falls from the sky and hits the ground.
The highly concentrated magic energy hitting her directly blew away the lower half of her body, leaving only the top.
She looks like she’s in pain, but her life is already fading, and her body gradually turns to flames as she disappears.
Iris and Sephilia approach her with me, and Izekiel looks at Sephilia with vacant eyes.
“Princess Sephilia… I know this is a selfish request… But forgive Ghise…”
In the end, she’s still protecting him.
Sephilia responds with a serious expression.
“Very well, I will forgive him.”
“Thank… You…”
Izekiel looks relieved, and breathes her last breath. Her body is covered with blue flames, and starts to disappear.
I’m sure this is the most beautiful end for her. Carrying the sins of someone who was dear to her, and repaying an old debt.
Sephilia couldn’t bring herself to deny her feelings.
But I believe her choice was wrong.
“Full Recovery.”
I cast revival magic on Izekiel, and despite her dying once, she wakes up.
She’s baffled, but realizes what happened when she looks at me, and lets out a pained voice.
“Why didn’t you let me die?”
Large tears fall from her red eyes.
“You still have something to do.”
“Something to do…? That’s why I took the responsibility…”
“No! You’re not going to save Ghise like that! If you really want to save him, don’t you think he needs to pay for his crimes!?”
I say with a strong tone while pointing to Ghise, who is still passed out against a wall.
That trash didn’t see anything that Izekiel did. I can’t see him changing at all like this.
“Izekiel, I won that magic duel. As the winner, I should have the right to give you an order. Listen up!
Spend your life changing Ghise! You’re not allowed to take the easy way out and ending your life! Got that!? Stupid saintess!”
I yell as hard as I can, and it echoes in the entire Roland castle.
