An exclusive mage who broke up with his alchemist childhood friend, wants to lead a slow life in a remote town – Chapter 72 – Battle against Levithesis – Part three

“Wahahahahahahaha! How does it feel to have your precious protection not work!? You…! You…! Take more!”

The demon king laughed loudly as she continued using the meteorite to attack Levithesis, and every time it was hit, it let out a loud cry.

The appearance of the meteorite tipped the scale of the battle a lot, but suddenly, there was a big change to Levithesis.

Its body was painted black, and it began to burn as if releasing black flames.

It was as though fire itself was covered in hellfire, and it roared.

“Wha!? Levithesis is burning!?”

Yelled Lela.

“It has a second form!”

“Are they going to be all right?”

Said Mars, followed by a worried Vermeer.

Meanwhile, the demon king looked unconcerned.

“Hmph, so what if it’s burning? Wielding the meteorite puts me at an overwhelming advantage. The next attack will settle this cleanly!”

“Way Albatross! Something is not right! It’s too dangerous to attack it mindlessly!”

Yelled Loyd, but it seemed Albatross was not listening.

She launched the meteorite straight at Levithesis, but it counterattacked, firing a beam at the meteorite.

They seemed equal at first, but they were slowly being pushed towards the demon king.

“W-what is this power!? Gugugu, guwaaaaaah!”

The demon king lost the power struggle, and was blown away by the meteorite as it flew back. She yelled, and was thrust into a destroyed building.

Loyd was unable to hide his surprise at how much the magic energy output of Levithesis exceeded his expectations.

The scales were tipped back into Levithesis’ favor, with the demon king out of the picture.

“Even Al…!”

“I told her it was dangerous…”

Undine was dumbfounded, with a pained expression that showed she did not believe the demon king would lose.

Levithesis faced her again, and fired another beam.

Loyd quickly put himself in the way and erected a barrier, but he felt an even stronger impact than before.

(Kuh…! What an incredible impact. It would break my barrier if I got distracted for a second.)

The barrier made creaking sounds, as Loyd fired himself up to block the attack.

And in the time between attacks, he fired a Water Daedalus. It hit directly, but the black flames covering Levithesis blocked it like it was nothing.

Loyd was discouraged for a moment, but then he heard the cheers behind him.

“Don’t give up, Loyd!”

“Beat that thing, sensei!”

“Mister Loyd, please! Save Atlanta and its inhabitants!”

Loyd suddenly realized something.

He was once alone, and completely lost sight of why he fought. He was power harassed by his childhood friend, and shunned by the world.

No matter how hard he tried, no one acknowledged him.

But that was in the past. He carried the feelings of a lot of people while he faced Levithesis.

He had friends who believed in him, accepted him, and prayed for him, something valuable he completely lacked just half a year before.

He remembered that. The tough situation made him realize it.

(…Yes. I’m not alone. I have everyone with me. It’s over if I give up… So I just have to not do it!)

His head was spinning at full speed, looking for a solution, and he noticed the now lonesome meteorite.

Levithesis managed to push it away, but it was working. It just needed one more step.

“Then…! I’ll take over for Albatross!”

Loyd put all his hopes on this meteorite, but if he just pushed it, there was a good chance it would just get pushed back again.

He had to fire it in a way that Levithesis could not push it back towards him.

He did not have the time to think at his leisure, so he used all his magic energy, knowledge, and technique.

That was all.

Loyd moved until he was diagonally above Levithesis, composed his breathing, and chanted a spell.

The aftershock of the magic energy carved the ground, and there was a big surge.

“Water Daedalus!”

The giant Water Daedalus he fired swallowed the meteorite, and its holy power turned the Water Daedalus into a shining golden dragon.

Its size dwarfed even Levithesis, and it went up to look down on it, before rapidly crashing down.

Levithesis fired a beam at it, but the golden dragon kept going and crashed into it like a wave.

Levithesis disappeared into it, but shortly after, when the magic died down, it appeared again, lying on the ground limp.

The ominous black flames were put out, as if an evil spirit had left its body.
