An exclusive mage who broke up with his alchemist childhood friend, wants to lead a slow life in a remote town – Chapter 98 – White Rose – Part five

It was a happy miscalculation.

I really didn’t expect to find Sephilia so soon.

She has burly looking knights with her, and she’s observing the other knights’ outdoor exercises in the square.

By the way, Sephilia was the one to notice me first. And she’s not wearing her usual maid outfit, she’s wearing the kind of extravagant dress a noble would wear.

Half of me is surprised, and half thinks it’s strange. And as I stand dumbfounded, the knight standing to her right steps forward.

“Princess, do you know him?”

Princess?

I tilt my head, because I wasn’t expecting the knight to say that.

Sephilia looks awkward.

“I’m sorry for keeping quiet about it. I am actually the second princess of Roland.”

“Second princess!?”

“Eh? Eeeeeeeh!?”

“Sephilia is a princess!?”

All three of us react with surprise. Mars and Lela look like they’re about to fall down.

Sephilia is a princess of Roland? Seriously?

She doesn’t look like Ghise at all!

“My mother is not the same as Prince Ghise’s.”

Says Sephilia like she read my mind.

No no, that’s not the issue here. I’m surprised that Ghise is her brother too, but Sephilia is royalty? Even if she’s from the neighboring country, that means I’ve been speaking casually to a princess this whole time.

Hahaha, I would’ve been executed for lese majesty if it wasn’t Sephilia.

“H-hum! Do Till and the others know you are royalty?”

Asks Mars, and Sephilia slowly nods.

It seems the others knew Sephilia is royalty.

They look equal, but apparently Sephilia stands above the other three in hierarchy.

I hear royalty stands above the church. Is it the same in Roland?

Does Royalty outrank a saintess?

…What am I thinking about now? This shocking revelation shorted my brain circuits.

“Anyway, I’m glad you’re all right. I thought you might be tortured when I heard White Rose took you.”

“Don’t worry, nothing is being done to me for now.”

So they didn’t harm her.

Still, why did White Rose bring Sephilia to Roland?”

“More importantly friend, please get away quickly.”

“Eh?”

“I am not her real target, you are. Judging by the way she talks, it is safe to say she is after your life.”

Then, I hear the laughter of a young woman above me.

When I look up, I see White rose.

There’s a clock tower right in the middle of the square, standing about five meters in height. She’s gracefully standing on top.

Her hair is white, and her outfit matches.

Also, like Black Raven, she is dressed in an oriental outfit.

“S-sensei! It’s her!”

Yells Mars, with some anger mixed in. Lela then also calls out the culprit.

White Rose doesn’t mind them, and looks straight at me, not seeming concerned at all.

“It’s been a while. Four years, right?”

“It might seem that way to you, but it does not feel that way to me, since I used my subordinate to observe you.”

“So you were acting like a stalker. If you’re standing in front of me like that, can I assume you’re ready to get beaten up?”

“Fufufu, you say some very funny things. Of course, I showed myself because I have a winning formula.”

“I see. Then I’ll burn you again.”

I intentionally use the violent word burn in response to her provocation.

White Rose is an alraune queen, meaning her abilities are high.

She can use Earth Rumbling to suck magic energy from the earth and convert it into healing, and Solar Union to do the same with sunlight.

These two abilities are always active, so if her body is damaged, it’s quickly healed.

She also has a great ability to learn, so an attack won’t work on her a second time.

But no matter what, plant monsters are weak to fire. She can take one or two hits, but if she keeps being attacked with high rank fire magic, her healing ability won’t keep up.

That’s a clear weak point of hers.

She tricked me the first time, making it seem like she could take a fire attack no problem in the early stages of our fight when she was fresh. But if I know that trick, I’m confident I can take her down.

This time, I’m going to use fire magic as my main attack, and I’m sure that will lead to a favorable fight to me.

“Fufufu, foolish. Do you think last time’s strategy will work again?”

“I don’t care what you think, plant monsters are weak to fire. That hasn’t changed.”

I see. I won’t deny that. But I am not quite the same this time.”

She declares as she unsheathes a sword.

The blade is long, to the point where it’s only slightly shorter than her.

I have a bad feeling.

‘Watch out for her sword.’

I remember what the demon king said.

What’s most important to a demon is fighting in a way that shows they’re superior. That would give her a lot of options if she was using plant magic, but that’s very difficult in the middle of a city.

That’s why she’s using a sword.

My bad feeling is spot on. She holds her sword forward, and it rotates fast like a windmill.

“Beast king sword, hawk style… Imperial Lightning Wind Screw!”

She swings her sword, and a hundred meter tornado appears.

I immediately cast Explosion, and brute force my way into destroying it.

There’s a shock wave when the two magic energies clash, and I squint to check if she’s alive.

She’s gone.

“Friend! Above!”

White Rose has moved twenty meters into the air.

Hey hey, did she ride that tornado to get there…!?

I’m in awe of her actions, that show intelligence beyond a human’s.

“Did you know, Loyd? Black Raven’s hawk sword used to be called beast king sword four thousand years ago.”

She disappears from the air, and suddenly, she’s below me.

She’s keeping her posture down, and looking up at me with coldness in her eyes.

I don’t have time to cast Full Grow, and instinctually feel my life is in danger.

Her sword is already being swung at my neck, but Sephilia reacts with extraordinary reflexes, and blocks the attack with her sword.
