I picked up an unsold slave elf and made her my daughter – Chapter 21 – Ririi’s robe is worth a hundred and fifty thousand zeni

I left Ririi with Aurelia so she can take her measurements, and I’m heading to Miss Esmeralda’s atelier. She said she’ll take Ririi on a tour of the store once she’s done, so I’m sure Ririi won’t be too bored. Franchet is the most popular brand among women after all.

The capital is a perfect circle when seen from above, thriving with the ministry of magic as its center. It makes sense that the further out you go the lower the population density becomes, and the value of land goes down.

A lot of places like storehouses of ateliers are built in this area, and Miss Esmeralda’s atelier is also in a corner of an area full of storehouses.

Unlike the small store in the commercial street, this place is pretty large. It’s more than big enough to house the ten meter tall crystal dragon.

“You killed it pretty cleanly.”

She whispers while looking at the dragon on the ground.

I pierced it from the mouth with fine magic, so there’s barely a scratch on it. I’d go as far as to call it a perfect article.

“These things don’t have that resistance to magic inside their mouths. They really oversold them by calling them sorcerer killers.”

“…The fact that their weak point is inside their mouths would make it pretty difficult for regular sorcerers. You know that in general magic power is proportional to size, right?

Where did you learn that ‘convergence magic circle’ to increase power by condensing magic energy? I know for a fact that isn’t taught in school.”

“It was in a magic book I read in the ministry of magic. I used to go there when I was a student.”

I went all over the place to pay back my debt.

“…Ah, that whole business that got you banned from Gatlin?”

“How do you know that?”

“Well, the store contacted the school. They told us one of our students ruined all their products.”

“…Seriously?”

Sieglinde smoothed everything over by taking care of the bill, so I didn’t think much of it at the time, but it sounds like it was a pretty big deal. Did they contact my parents too?

I’m thinking about going home soon, so maybe I’ll ask then.

“Well then, I’ll be waiting for Ririi’s robe.”

I’ve handed her the crystal dragon, so my business here is done. She might end up pushing something annoying on me if I stay here too long, so I turn around to leave.

“Hold on a second, you forgot something.”

“…?”

I turn around, she throws me the horn of the crystal dragon, and I rush to catch it.

I didn’t even hear her breaking it off its head… I guess she’s still got it.

“Why are you giving it to me? Aren’t you going to make the staff?”

That’s the impression I got from the way she talked about it, but she gives me a big sigh in response.

“Don’t be silly, we make robes. How are we going to handle a crystal dragon’s horn? I’ll introduce you to someone I know that makes staves, so take it there.”

She writes something on a piece of paper and gives it to me. It has an address and an introductory letter. Actually it says, ‘help this guy – Esmeralda’.

This address is outside the capital. I need to go get Ririi today, so I’ll go there tomorrow.

I thank Miss Esmeralda, and leave her atelier.

“Daddy! Look look!”

I go back to Franchet, and a dressed up sorcerer comes running. It’s Ririi of course, and I assume the robe she’s wearing belongs to this store. Looking at it more closely, the robe has a few red ribbons, and looks pretty girly despite being relatively simple.

It’s a perfect design for a girl starting her first year of magic school. It’s just what you’d expect from the number one brand among women.

She stops right in front of me and turns around in a circle. The robe rises with the wind she creates, and to put it bluntly, she looks like an angel.

“You look cute, Ririi.”

“Hehehe.”

I try my hardest to contain the big smile trying to form on my face, and pat her head.

I can see an employee walking this way from the back.

“I’m sorry, but Ririi was so cute that I had her try a few things.”

“No, thank you for looking after her. Ririi, did you thank the nice lady?”

“Yes! Lots!”

It looks like Ririi decided she likes this young woman in this short amount of time, and looks at her with a perfectly carefree smile. The employee sees her smile and also smiles back.

…Ririi looks so cute in that robe that I honestly feel like just buying this one, but I can’t. Miss Esmeralda is hard at work taking apart the crystal dragon materials right about now.

And Ririi is really going to look like an angel with that silver robe.

“All right Ririi, we should be heading home soon.”

“Yes! Bye bye!”

“Come back any time Ririi.”

We give the robe back to the employee, and she takes us back to the storefront.

…If anything happens, this is where we’ll come to shop. Well, I’m banned from Gatlin anyway.
