“But if you just increase the maximum amount of magic energy he can have, his skill won’t keep up.”
“That is true, but Theo has very little talent to begin with.”
Being able to pick up things quickly was a type of talent.
For example, when it came to cooking, Theo only needed to see how it was done once before he could replicate it. Xena on the other hand, could not do it no matter how many times she was taught.
However, this was reversed when it came to fighting. Theo could not seem to learn, while Xena learned everything in a second. She could learn in one go things that would take a regular person dozens of attempts.
This meant that even if they had the same magic energy, that did not mean their actual power was the same.
But still, they could be equal even if Theo had no talent, if his magic energy was increased by an absurd amount.
This way it was possible to overwhelm and crush even someone with great skill and technique.
“Surely it would take a hundred years to increase his magic energy enough for him to be equal to you two.”
“…Wait, a hundred years? Are you planning on doing it for that long?”
In a hundred years, Theo’s magic energy would be enough to utterly defeat the two women, but this meant doing it every day without fail for a hundred years.
“Of course. Every day.”
“…Don’t forget, Theo has a limited life span.”
“I will make him immortal.”
“You can do that!?”
“Of course. Who do you think I am?”
“What are you?”
Xena and Celia still had no idea Helvi was a devil. They knew she was not just a regular human, but they did think she was human.
They also figured by her beauty and youthfulness that she could not be much older than them.
Thinking about someone around their age being so monstrously strong made them think they had to work harder.
Celia, who had been slacking off a little, went back to basics to practice her magic.
“I think it is nice to try to reach for the top once you learn what it is. Good luck.”
“…Can you not read my mind?”
“Yes, sorry.”
“And about what you said earlier. Can you really make Theo immortal? Does that mean you’re immortal?”
Up until this point, Celia figured they were around the same age just based on her appearance, but if she was indeed immortal, that would change everything.
If she could retain this beauty and live for dozens, hundreds of years, Celia could accept that they would never match up to her.
“Good job noticing that. The method I would use to make Theo immortal would be different, but I am immortal.”
“I knew it. So you’ve been living for what, dozens, hundreds of years?”
“Has no one taught you manners? You should not ask a woman her age.”
“Stop. Just hearing that word reminds me of what you did.”
Celia felt as though something might leak out again, and did her best to hold it in.
“So? How old are you?”
“I do not remember the exact number, but more than dozens or hundreds. Let us leave it at that.”
“Eh!? T-that long?”
Celia was shocked, as she did not expect that much.
“W-wow… Now I understand how you can be so strong.”
Obviously, anyone could become strong if they lived for over ten thousand years, but Helvi was different. She was the strongest being the moment she was born.
No matter how much talent one had, or even if one trained for over ten thousand years, they could not reach Helvi.
That was how different Helvi was, as a species and as a living being.
(But I will not say so much for now. I will when I tell them I am a devil.)
She talked about it with Theo at night. How maybe it was time to tell Xena, Celia, and Fiore.
“But being immortal sounds like a huge hassle too. I think I’d want to live forever too, but it sounds boring.”
“Yes, you are not entirely wrong. I am the strongest, so I never had any trouble, but it has been boring at times.”
“I figured it would be.”
Her senses were a little different than a human’s, so living alone all this time did not bother her. As a being, she was perfect by herself.
But it really was boring.
There was some excitement in the few times a human summoned her to make a wish, but it was mostly boring.
“But now I have Theo, so the boring times are over.”
“Not entirely, right?”
“Yes, there may be a time when we get into an argument. I do not think we will split up, but I cannot think of such a time as entertaining or amusing.”
Still, if they did argue, that time could not be considered boring.
“I wonder what Theo thinks about being immortal. Did you talk to him about this?”
“Of course. About living together forever.”
Forever. Having endless time.
Normally, the idea of living together would be at least a little scary, but Theo…
“Living with you forever? Like really, really forever?”
“Yes, exactly.”
“Great! I want to live with you forever!”
As he smiled, happy from the bottom of his heart, Theo chose to live forever with Helvi, without fear or hesitation.
He probably did not yet understand the sheer scale of forever, but Helvi was happy nonetheless.
Although they had done it three times already, they decided to go for a fourth round that night.
“And that is how that went.”
“I feel like you’re just bragging again.”
“Yes, I am.”
“Annoying…”
And so, Helvi and Theo promised to live together forever.
No matter what happened, they would live together forever, in happiness
They had no concrete reason to believe this would be so, but both were sure of it.

four a fourth -> for a fourth
For some reason I always read Helvi’s bragging voice with the voice of Jeremy Clarkson. And earily enough it fits well
I dislike you you for this comment and shall never forgive you
