“Hyah!? M-m-mister Arata!? What are you doing!?”
“We can’t just leave him like that.”
Arc is still unconscious, and even if his wounds are healed, he’s still covered in that sticky fluid.
I don’t really want to touch that, but saving someone is more important.
And so, I have to take off his clothes, despite knowing it will get me dirty.
“Ha, hahaha… I see. Yes, I understand!”
“…You really thought I was taking his clothes off because I felt like it?”
“O-of course not… You have Miss Reina after all…”
She says while swinging her head away from my eyes because she feels so awkward.
Come to think of it, I’ve done the same thing to save Reina.
I don’t really want to remember that, and I sure didn’t expect it to come back into my mind here.
“Let’s just…”
I finish undressing Arc, and dress him with clothes I had in my Storage Magic.
I don’t really want to put my underwear on him, but I can’t leave him with just pants either…
I tell myself it will be fine if I wash it, and wash his clothes down with water magic.
Then I throw them into my Storage Magic, and leave them there until things are calmer and we can dry them. Then turn to Seti.
He knows what he has to do, so he removes his armor, and I also wash it down.
Reina is good at daily life magic, and learning it from her means I can do a lot too.
“Here’s a change of clothes.”
“…Thanks.”
Seti gets up after I hand him another set of clothes.
“By the way, why is she staring this way…”
“Is she just interested?”
I couldn’t leave her alone in a dangerous forest, but despite her covering her face with her hands, she can clearly see between her fingers.
Well, she was raised by the church, so she probably never had a whole lot of chances to see a naked man.
Wait, what about when people got injured?
Is it just because of certain parts that wouldn’t be exposed in that sort of situation?
“…Let’s not think about it too much, for the sake of her honor.”
Anyway, Seti can move on his own, so I carry Arc. But just as we’re about to leave the forest, a friend of that frog shows up.
“Can you not get in the way?”
I’m not here to hunt, so even though it would be easy to take it down, I just stare.
And I think it knows the difference in our power, because it looks terrified and runs off.
“A calamity class monster… Just what are you?”
“I’m Arata, a human that lives on this island.”
“…Human?”
I’m shocked by how even people I’m meeting for the first time are reacting that way now.
Anyway, we need to get back to Snow and Edinburgh.
He’ll probably be surprised to see her, but I should leave the explanation about her memory loss to when we get there.
I’m sure it won’t feel real if I explain it here…
It’s not at all payback for him treating me like I’m not human.
And in any case, all that will happen is that the near emotionless looking Seti will look shocked, which will be kind of funny.
◇ ◇ ◇
It would get dark before we got back home, so we’re going to camp here.
I take out a tent from the Storage Magic, and we make preparations.
Arc is still not awake, so I try talking to Seti, and mostly understand what’s going on.
As I expected, they also just found themselves here after the shipwreck.
Two people who were enemies to begin with. But Apparently Arc isn’t really bothered by that sort of thing, and offered to cooperate.
Then they tried to look around, but quickly ran into a roadblock. Every monster on this island is what they would call a calamity class on the continent, so they quickly realized that if they engaged one in battle, a couple of lives wouldn’t be enough for them to win.
“Thankfully, both of us have good survival skills, so it wasn’t that hard to survive while hiding from monsters.”
And a week after they made camp and explored the forest little by little, the frog attacked.
They abandoned the camp and ran, but it caught them. And the rest, we saw.
“My wind magic didn’t work on it at all…”
“Hahaha, well, I’m confident in my magic energy.”
“…It seems becoming one of the seven great mages made me too conceited.”
He looks kind of down. What do I do…
Then Snow comes back from gathering branches with Edinburgh.
I guess she heard him, because Edinburgh places her hand on his shoulder.
“Don’t worry, Seti. It’s Arata that’s strange, you’re a first-class mage.”
“…”
Seti’s emotionless face crumbles when he hears her praise him.
Apparently that’s pretty unthinkable from his perspective.
“Well, this island’s monsters are strange…”
“And are you aware of how strange it is to be able to defeat them like it’s normal?”
“Ugu…”
My excuse that this whole island is strange is quickly cut down.
“Snow can do it too!”
“See? It’s not just me.”
“If you really think that excuse will work, I can just tell you you’re right. Is that what you want?”
“Sorry.”
We’re done setting up while we talk.
Ceres looks after Arc in the tent while we get the fire going.
Seti isn’t the type to start conversations, but I feel like he wants to know more about the island.
And so, I start telling him things that happened so far.
I feel like I’ve been telling these stories a lot lately.
And getting the same reaction.
“I can’t believe it… But I guess I have to, if calamity class monsters appear like they’re regular wild animals…”
“It’s a beautiful island filled with nature, once you get used to it.
“All I see is hell…”
“You’ll get used to it.”
Merlin and Xellos have been widening their circle of friends too, and Zephir basically treats the divine beast people’s village like it’s his hometown already.
The others haven’t been here long enough, but they’ll get used to it too.
“I’m just glad no one died.”
“You found Cara and the others, right?”
“Yes, everyone’s doing well.”
Although I feel like she’s the one who took the most psychic damage.
But I also feel like she’s the type to get back up no matter how many times she’s down.
“We’ll go back to the house tomorrow, so you can learn more about the current situation there.”
“Yes, thanks.”
And more importantly, because I’d have to say everything again because Arc isn’t awake.
