As the three of us hug, eventually, the other three lights also take shape.
They vary in size, but they’re all small. The biggest one is even smaller than Wil, and the smallest about the size of my fist.
“Ah… Miss Miriel, Miss Phi, Mister Dine…”
Brynhildr says with joy, and the lights stop.
One looks like a female angel. She has silver hair that reminds me of a swan and small wings on her back, and she’s wearing a silver dress.
The second looks like a small fairy, with pea green hair that looks like nature itself, and hangs in the hair by moving beautiful half-transparent wings.
And the last one…
“A slime?”
It just looks like a round, blue slime.
“I’m sorry for worrying everyone.”
“…!?”
When the one that looks like an angel steps forward, Brynhildr quickly kneels like she’s pledging allegiance to a god.
The other high elves all lower their heads, making me realize once again that these are the southern great spirits.
“Please do not apologize! We have caused you a lot of trouble due to lacking the necessary power to…”
The angel girl interrupts Brynhildr by holding her head. It’s like she’s patting the head of a child to soothe her.
“You did your best, Hildr. We should have spoken with Sheryl and the others before it got to this point.”
“Miss Miriel… No, we…”
The moment she tries to deny that and put herself down, the fairy gets on the head of the angel girl called Miriel.
“Yes yes, enough apologies! We’re fine, so it’s fine! I hate this gloomy mood!”
“Phi is right. The problem isn’t solved, but we managed to reunite safely, so stop hurting yourselves.”
“Miss Phi… Mister Dine…”
“They’re right, you did your best! Now let me pat your heads!”
Miss Miriel then starts patting the heads of the kneeling high elves one after the other.
So the fairy is Phi, and the one that looks like a slime is Dine?
I’m pretty sure the southern great spirits are light, wind, and water.
Phi looks exasperated on top of Miriel’s head, but somewhat amused too.
“Sorry. Once Miriel gets going, there is no stopping her. Bear with her for a while.”
“Ah, it’s fine. My name is Arata. Hum, are you the water great spirit?”
“Yes, my name is Dine. I sincerely thank you for saving our kids, and us.”
Despite looking like a slime, Mister Dine’ voice has presence. He speaks like a knight I’d see in a story, so it’s really cool.
He kind of reminds me of the earth great spirit, Mister Giarth, but that one’s more prone to jokes…
“…I see. I was wondering what god had spawned, but now I understand how Nidhogg and the others were repelled.”
He says while looking straight at me with the one eye on his body.
But when I’m about to respond, something lands on my head.
“I’m Phi! Nice going you! Thanks!”
“Phi, you should not thank him on his head like that.”
“It’s fine, I’m a great spirit! Being great means I can be on top when I apologize! What’s your name!?”
“Arata.”
“Hahaha, that’s kinda hard to say!”
Her kind of shrill voice echoes in my ears a bit, because she’s on top of my head.
But I don’t get a bad feeling from her, so I’m leaving her be.
And just as I’m thinking that, Mister Dine stretches a blue tentacle towards me, grabs Miss Phi off my head, and places her on his.
“Ah! What are you doing, Dine!?”
“Stopping you from lowering the level of us great spirits with your nonsense.”
“Who cares about that!? Great spirits are great spirits! What we do becomes the level!”
They keep going, and I feel like I understand their characters and relationship just by watching this.
The slime named Mister Dine is the serious, responsible type, and Phi the fairy is the free type.
In any case, I’m glad to see they’re friendly with me.
I also feel like they get along. It’s like they’re messing around with each other.
This goes on for a while, until Miss Miriel is done patting the high elves, and also comes over here.
“Thank you for waiting. I heard Phi’s voice faintly, but you’re Arata, correct?”
“Yes, Miss Miriel.”
“Call me Miriel, or mommy instead.”
“Hum…”
I can’t call someone I just met that.
“Don’t mind her, Miriel is always like this!”
“Yes. She always calls herself people’s mom. Ignore her.”
“Eh… But I am…!”
They start talking, and I’m left out.
Strange, Miss Sheryl told me the southern great spirits were too serious, but they’re just as candid as the northern great spirits.
It looks like Reina and Katima have been left stunned with surprise too.
“Well then, we need to thank Arata.”
“Ah, no, you don’t have to do that. I just wanted to save Snow…”
“Ah, yes yes! This girl! The cute cute new great spirit!”
Miss Miriel approaches Snow, who is sleeping in Reina’s arms, and looks at both closely.
I can’t imagine she means any harm, but Reina is flustered when a powerful great spirit suddenly approaches her, and holds Snow tighter.
“Ahh, so cute! It’s my sixth time seeing a newborn great spirit, and they never get any less cute! Ah, I’m glad to be alive!”
She looks at Snow with a shine in her eyes, while going around Reina and smiling.
“Wait, sixth time?”
“Miriel is currently the oldest great spirit! She thinks of herself as everyone’s mom!”
“Thinks of herself!? I am!”
She argues back against Miss Phi, but I have a question.
“Oldest?”
She looks young, and if I had to say, I’d say Miss Sheryl looks older.
“Sheryl, Guen, and Giarth looked very cute when they were born too. Sheryl is in her rebellious phase but… I gave her so much love…”
She starts crying, probably thinking about their past.
Miss Phi gets closer to console her, and…
“Your love is too heavy!”
“No way…”
Nevermind consoling her, she hit her with another attack.
But since a new great spirit is born every thousand years, and Snow was born, that means the other three have been over there for over a thousand years.
That’s a pretty big rebellious phase, isn’t it? I think, but I don’t want to land another attack on the already down Miss Miriel.
“By the way, Miriel is the oldest, and the second oldest is Phi.”
“I see.”
“Then there is Sheryl, me, Guen, and Giarth.”
That’s an unexpected order.
I look at those two fooling around, and think that Miss Sheryl and Mister Dine are two ones that have it together.
Tiltue and Elga look like they’re thinking the same thing.
“Despite how they may appear, they care about Yggdrasil and the high elves more than anyone.”
Says Mister Dine with an awkward smile, probably reading my expression.
I’m sure that’s true, considering how much Brynhildr and the others worship them.
Is that what Miss Sheryl meant when she said they’re too serious?
“Geez! What about thanking Arata and the others!?”
“Yes! What do you want, Arata!? Mommy will do her best for you!”
We’re back on track, but I really don’t want anything.
People have helped me a lot on this island, so it feels natural to help each other out.
“Don’t think too much about it.”
“Mister Dine…?”
“They simply want to thank you for saving us. Is that not normal?”
“Yes. Then what I want…”
I want to have a big banquet, with everyone.
When I ask that, Miss Miriel nods with a smile.
