“What are you doing?”
I approach them as Mister Giarth proudly crosses his arms.
Mister Guen then emerges from the lava, irritated, but also frustrated like he admits his defeat.
“We were competing to see who’d go to Miriel’s place! Dammit!”
“Eh?”
I’m surprised.
Mister Guen then falls to the ground, looking very frustrated.
I thought for sure the northern great spirits didn’t like the idea of seeing Miss Miriel, but they were actually competing over it like that…
“I think you’re misunderstanding. The loser has to go see her.”
“…”
Says Miss Sheryl, and I unconsciously stare at the other two.
I think she’d cry again if she knew they were competing over who gets to not see her.
“W-what is that face!?”
“What do you know!? Miriel is really annoying!”
Both start making excuses, and talking about how intense Miss Miriel is with her doting.
Apparently they have trauma from when they were little, and while there’s a lot I question, I don’t say anything.
Still, their serious faces and the fact that Miss Sheryl isn’t stopping them leads me to believe it might be true…
“Anyway, I get what’s going on, but Miss Miriel would be sad if she knew.”
““Uu…””
They’re at least somewhat self-aware, and seem a little awkward.
And Miss Sheryl doesn’t care at all.
“She can cry all she wants.”
“But I’d feel sorry for her… By the way, why are you talking about seeing her all of a sudden?”
I’m pretty sure they could’ve done that any time they wanted.
This island is big, and the paths get particularly rugged in the north, but Miss Sheryl can use those shadows to get to our house. And I doubt that barrier could stop her.
“Because they protected Yggdrasil.”
“…?”
I feel like she’s not saying enough…
“They’ve been working hard while we abandoned our duty. We know Miriel wants to see us, so we figured we could visit for a bit.”
“But if we all go, the alfar village will be in danger again, so we were competing over who gets to stay.”
“Ah, I see.”
So they were thinking about visiting even before we asked.
Mister Giarth won, so he’s staying, and Miss Sheryl never intended to go.
When I look at her, she looks away. What a nice person.
Unlike the elven village, that’s protected by a barrier, the alfar live in a world of survival of the fittest.
Most of them tend to fall on the weaker side compared to the other creatures around, so they would fall prey to monsters without the protection of the great spirits.
A high alfar like Katima can deal with monsters, but the problem is that they come from the sky.
That means they would not be enough to defend the whole village, so the great spirits have to patrol around here sometimes to show how threatening they are to others in this area.
But still, they can’t just move…
Alfar have their way of life. If they wanted to live in a safer area, I’d support them as much as I could, but I don’t want to talk about it unless they do.
But this means that the great spirits can’t be away for too long.
“…Miss Miriel will probably be sad if Mister Giarth isn’t there.”
She wanted to see them so much.
Brynhildr is also here to try to make that wish come true, so if possible, I wish I could gather all the great spirits. But that doesn’t seem feasible.
“No, I’m sure it will be fi…”
“Hum, may I?”
Brynhildr walks forward while holding Snow’s hand, and fearfully speaks.
“The high elf’s village is protected by a barrier, and safe. So if Miss Miriel was the one to come here…”
She proposes this to the great spirits.
Mister Guen puts his hand on my shoulder and gives us a happy thumbs up, but Mister Giarth falls to the ground.
And Miss Sheryl…
“How about you do what you want?”
She says while picking up and holding Snow.
