Wilhelmina watched closely as Arata returned home, while hiding in the starry sky.
Once she saw him enter his house, she came out of the darkness again.
“Hey Edi, he’s gone.”
She said, and another person emerged from the darkness.
Edinburgh Eros Edelheid.
The only familiar created by Wilhelmina, the true ancestral vampire, looked on at Arata’s house with a somewhat troubled expression.
“…Mother, what should I do?”
“If you’re going to ask something, put a little more detail into it. I can’t read minds.”
Wilhelmina sounded exasperated, but she knew what was worrying her.
She was asking for a more in depth explanation because she felt it was necessary.
“Reina is a sorcerer I raised. She is starting a new life, but I have no memories of her.”
“Isn’t that what you wanted? And what Reina wanted too. What’s the issue?”
“…I don’t know. I just feel like this is no good.”
Edinburgh lost her memory. And she was aware that she herself wanted it.
Her memory loss was why she was able to laugh along with them, so if her memory returned, would she be able to maintain this peaceful way of life?
She always thought it would not be possible. Her past self she heard about from the other members of the seven great mages seemed like a terrible person.
When she met the hero’s party, they feared her as though she were a monster.
And above all else, what she heard of the harsh training she put Reina through as she raised her sounded absolutely unforgivable.
“I like my life now. Living with Zephir, looking after Snow, and interacting with the inhabitants of this island. It’s the peaceful life I think I always wanted.”
“Probably.”
“I met you after coming to this island. I don’t remember it, but I feel like wanting to meet you was a big part of my life, and I will never forget how happy I was when I did.”
Even Edinburgh did not know if she was telling Wilhelmina this, or telling it to herself.
She looked up at the full moon, and put her hand on her chest as if filling a hole in it.
“And yet, my heart is saying it feels like it’s missing something important.”
“…So you want your memories back?”
“I don’t think I need them. I think I will be happy without them. But when I heard about Reina getting married, I felt I could not go on like this…”
Edinburgh raised her head, and looked at Arata and Reina’s home.
He was the first person she saw on this island, after she lost her memory. He was also an extremely strong being that could perform godlike feats, and she could absolutely not beat him even with her full memories.
From what she heard from the other seven great mages, she was called the monster of the end, the strongest mage in history, and was apparently seen as a tyrant.
If she got her memories back, she might not be satisfied with this peaceful life anymore.
That was why she did not want them back, but…
“If Arata is here… No, if I am on this island, I might be all right.”
She could call Arata, the one who made the monster of the end seem cute by comparison, a friend. The one who treated everyone without fear and had fun with them.
Also, the ones called the strongest races could laugh happily and join hands.
Surely her past self felt lonely because she was the strongest. That was why she distanced herself from others.
But on this island…
“Mother, you won’t abandon me if I regain my memories?”
Asked an uneasy sounding Edinburgh, to which Wilhelmina responded with an exasperated, but kind expression.
“Of course not. You’re my… Only child.”
“I see…”
“If you want those memories back despite wanting them gone, it’s surely because part of you wants to send Reina off as a master and a mother. You know those motherly feelings now, right?”
Those words, that came from her mother, who she trusted the most, fell heavily in her heart.
“If you wish it… Let’s ask him. I’m sure that friendly guy will help.”
“Yes, I will try asking.”
Edinburgh landed on the ground.
It was the dead of night, and still a time when they should be sleeping.
She was thinking about sneaking into Arata’s bedroom, which Wilhelmina assumed would upset Reina, but…
“Well, it should be interesting. And Snow will be happy.”
She watched her daughter blundering with an awkward smile, as she descended on the roof.
She looked up at the full moon, and took out wine from somewhere.
“This island has gotten quite rowdy… But that is not bad.”
She thought about how her daughter who had been away from her for so long had grown, and sipped from a wine glass.
The drink tasted better than any she had before.

Finally a clear and concise description of Edin’s relation to Wil, i swear only this WN has stuff happen offscreen that gets glossed over so easily
Thank you for the treat.😊
