I was reincarnated on an island where the strongest species live, so I will enjoy a peaceful life on this island – Chapter 204 – Edinburgh’s past – Part one

Edinburgh Emil Edelheid is a true ancestral’s familiar.

She was originally an elf, and it is fair to say that they have no interest in interacting with other races.

But she was different. She had a strong inquisitive spirit, and more importantly, was drawn by the infinite possibilities of magic.

And once she figured she could not learn more about magic in her closed off elven hometown, she left.

Human towns were exciting, and at the same time boring to her.

There were a lot of new things, but the magic she sought was a lot more advanced in the elven world.

Magic particular to humans sounded good, but she easily learned it all after reading one magic book.

‘Boring. These are mages in name only.’

She traversed the continent visiting noted mages, but her days were filled with disappointment.

‘Is this all there is to magic?’

She might as well have continued studying in her hometown.

But eventually, she heard rumors of a demon king to the far north, with magic that could kill even a god.

What made it seem more than a rumor, was that holy sword wielding heroes approved by the church went north to slay this demon king.

‘What kind of magic could kill a god… I want to know.’

None of the heroes who went there returned. If she went, she might die.

And yet, she did not stop.

Beyond a freezing land covered in miasma, she found a beautiful white castle she had no idea who could have created it.

Upon reaching it, she met a beautiful perfect being.

Are you a god, she asked, and Wilhelmina collapsed completely, looking like she was completely taken off guard.

After thinking a bit, she spoke with a daring smile.

I am no god, I am stronger than a god, she said.

Edinburgh’s days were wonderful after that. There was an overwhelming amount of knowledge.

Even magic she already knew had uses she never once thought of, and she was shown how small her world was.

No matter how much she used her ingenuity, or how much time she put into it, she could never reach her.

The experience convinced her she really was a god.

They spent centuries together, and it seemed no matter how much time passed, memories of this time would never fade.

But eventually, Edinburgh learned her limit.

Lifespan. An elven body could not continue to walk with Wilhelmina.

‘In your last moment, I’ll show you the best magic.’

With those words, a whirlpool of miasma ripped the sky, and a beautiful light engulfed the world.

The world fading into gray showed color for a moment, and she knew this was the godly magic she was after.

‘Beautiful.’

As she felt overwhelmed by these emotions, Edinburgh breathed her last breath.

‘Why did I…!?’

The next time she woke up, she felt despair because of her weakness.

She remembered fresh blood. After becoming a familiar, she lacked reasoning, and was just a rampaging monster.

And again, it was her god Wilhelmina who stopped her.

She cried. Tears were not falling, but her heart knew she cried.

She felt like when she saw godly magic in the end. And she did not understand how she returned after dying.

Perhaps she was a more compatible familiar than Wilhelmina thought. Nevertheless, this time she was reborn into a true ancestral familiar.

But Wilhelmina was not there anymore. She did not need to be.

‘I can’t even die?’

When she planned to take her own life, her near immortal body would not allow her.

Edinburgh set out on a journey again.

Her quest for magic was over, and she wandered without even knowing the meaning to her existence anymore.

The demon king known as Wilhelmina had passed onto legend already, and she had not been seen in millennia.

But a god would certainly not be dead. She had to be in that world somewhere.

She wanted to meet her, but at the same time, felt scared to do so.

And so, she decided to become strong. In order to see and worship god again.

Before she knew it, she was called the Monster of the End, and feared all over the world.

There was a point when heroes went after her to kill her, much like they did with Wilhelmina, but she fought them all back, and the church began to compromise after realizing there was no use in fighting her.

She then formed the magic association, and got a position in the continent.

She was called the first mage, and was the strongest in the world. She was ready to welcome Wilhelmina at any time.

But she never heard any rumors about her.

And since she figured her god could never die, she understood the fact that she never met her as her not wanting to see her.

It was still not enough, so she traveled again.

If she understood all the magic in the world, she would surely meet her god again. She dug up even forbidden magic.

‘I’m at my limit.’

She noticed this when all the magic on the continent was within her grasp, and no more was coming out.

Her heart creaked.

Magic was her support, her only connection to Wilhelmina, and even that was at an end.

She stopped, and started to forget what her god even looked like.

She could not forgive herself for thinking that, so…

‘A heart is a hindrance…’

She thought, becoming a doll that moved only to accomplish her goals, and losing sight of anything else.

When she thought she needed others to make the mage association more efficient, she formed the seven great mages.

All the details were left to Zephir, and he would look for capable members.

But it was not enough. She thought she needed a stronger association to be recognized by Wilhelmina.

‘If it’s not enough, I can just do more.’

She then sought people with potential to make the seven great mages a stronger organization.

People become stronger as they overcome adversity.

Every time she found people with potential, she gave them trials. Giving them despair to forge stronger swords.

And if the seven great mages could steal seats from each other, that would make for a stronger composition.

Second seat: Imperial Lightning – Zephir Antman

Third seat: Divine Wind – Seti Balder

Fourth seat: Everlasting Darkness – Cara Marguerite

Fifth seat: Holy Water – Merlin Marine

Sixth seat: Extinguishing Fire – Xellos Grinder

These were the strongest mages, who would not be outdone even by holy sword wielding heroes.

But she could not find someone worthy of the final seat.

If the strongest mages in the world did not have the potential Edinburgh was after, there was no point.

‘Then how about you raise the seventh seat? Like you once were.’

Said Zephir. She never considered raising a mage from scratch.

She gathered people with potential from the mage association, but it was no use. None possessed the potential she was after.

‘Storage Magic. The first magic she taught me.’

Her disciple would need to be able to use everything she had.

But when she said she would make this most difficult spell her test to take someone as a disciple, the other seven great mages looked at her like she was strange.

Zephir said her magic was outside the logic of this world, and no one would use it.

Traditional Storage Magic was no different from a storeroom, but what she wanted was something that bent time and space within it.

She wanted the Storage Magic she used. That Wilhelmina used.

There was no way others could use it. Even the other seven great mages could not use Storage Magic that bent time and space.

But giving in was pointless.

If it did not exist in the mage association, she would travel the continent once more.

‘That’s very useful! You can make things easier for the sisters!’

She found it. The one who could use the spell that connected her to her god.
