Miss Yggdrasil, the personification of the tree of the same name, who calls herself my mother. She would sulk if I called her that, even though it’s hard not to when she’s in a way the most important person on this island. But calling her mother still makes me embarrassed.
It’s been a few days since I vowed in front of her to make Reina and Tiltue happy.
I enter the living room, and see Reina looking at her ring with a happy expression.
“Fufu…”
It’s the ring I got from Miss Yggdrasil that day, and suffice to say, I have one too.
Seeing her looking at it so happily makes me happy too.
Then she notices I’m here.
“Arata? Why are you standing there?”
“I was just thinking you look happy.”
“…Yes. It’s a connection to my dear family.”
When she says it so straight, it makes me embarrassed.
I turn away, and see Snow isn’t in her play area.
“Oh? Where’s Snow?”
“She went to the alfar village to play with Katima and the others.”
“Eh… That’s pretty far.”
“Tiltue and Luna went too.”
“I see.”
This island is pretty big. I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s to the point where Elga and I would take a while to go around it running at full speed.
I got a look at the whole island from above when Suzaku carried me, and I got the impression that it’s as big or bigger than Hokkaido.
It makes sense, considering the big monsters living in it like emperor boars.
“What about you, Reina?”
“Hn… I don’t really have plans, so I was thinking about trying to make something new with the seasonings I got from the divine beast people.”
“Ooh, I can’t wait.”
I shouldn’t get in her way, so maybe I’ll go out somewhere.
I don’t really have anything to do, so I leave while wondering where to go.
“Are Graham and the others fighting again right now?”
Should I go there? I think as I enter the northern forest, and then I see Elga with Grr and Krr.
It looks like they’re just walking around… But then Grr’s ears point up as it notices me.
“Grr!”
“Owah!?”
It runs through the forest at an incredible speed, and dives into my face.
I pull it away, as it looks really excited, and I see it happily wagging its tail.
“Sorry Arata.”
“It’s okay, but it’s rare. They’re usually with Luna.”
“They want to get stronger because they lost to a rabbit that other time.”
“Ah…”
That’s right, they stopped coming with Luna because they were hurt after losing to that rabbit.
Apparently they’ve been fighting monsters in the forest, but I hear those rabbits are pretty strong.
They raise their voices like they’re worked up, but they’re still young, so they’re just cute.
“Are you training them?”
“Yeah. I’m a great warrior of the divine beast people, you know? It’s my duty to train those who want to be stronger.”
I put Grr on the ground, and they bow to Elga.
Are they saying he’s their master?
They really are smart.
Both have crimson fur like blood, but Krr’s is darker, and Grr’s a little brighter.
They look a lot alike, because they’re twins, but I like that I almost never mistake one for the other.
“Krr.”
“Grr.”
They got their names from their growls, and Grr’s sounds a little younger and softer.
As for personalities, both are little ruffians, and have really taken to Luna.
But hearing that they want Elga to help them get stronger makes me think they really are monsters of this island.
But how is he training them?
Looking at them, it’s hard to imagine how the humanoid Elga would do it… I’m curious.
“Can I come along?”
I ask, and Elga nods, not particularly concerned.
