I thought for sure they’d be training in the forest, but we just left it behind.

We’re headed in the direction of the Alfar village, so there’s exposed rock surface and a vast wasteland.

“Okay, get started.”

“Krr!”

“Grr!”

Both are fired up.

And as I wonder what kind of training they’ll do, Elga strips his clothes.

“Ooooooh…”

He lets out a low voice as he powers up, and his body starts changing.

His body becomes covered in silver fur like his hair, and he’s bigger than usual.

And his body is slender and graceful, like a demon wolf.

“Elga?”

“Oh right, you haven’t seen this form before?”

“No. I mean, it’s incredible.”

I say while looking up at Elga, dumbfounded.

“It’s not that rare. Tiltue can change form too.”

“I guess, but…”

I didn’t know Elga could transform.

But when I really think about it, Suzaku can transform and fly, so I guess it’s not that uncommon for divine beast people.

Tiltue was in her dragon form the first time I saw her, so seeing the humanoid Elga transform is a lot more surprising.

But now that the shock has worn off, there’s a real presence to Elga as a silver wolf, and he looks cool.

His voice is lower than normal, and he sounds more austere…

“You’re like a Fenrir.”

“I am Fenrir.”

Elga is exasperated by my silly comment.

Meanwhile Krr and Grr are whining like they want to get started already.

“Sorry sorry. Let’s go. Arata, I know you’re not gonna get hurt or anything’ but stand back.”

He says, and I lean against a rock as I watch them.

At first, Krr and Grr run after Elga in his wolf form.

Then I think they start acting like they’re hunting a monster, as Krr and Grr start coordinating to try and corner Elga.

The difference in their power is evident, so their attacks don’t work at all.

Once their attacks soften a little, Elga mercilessly flings them away.

I think he’s purposefully avoiding harming them, as they look okay and start attacking again.

This keeps going until Krr and Grr get tired and stop.

It’s time for a break, so Elga puts them on his back and comes here.

“Good job. So how were they?”

“Not there yet. They’re weak, so they try to confuse their opponents with their movements and target vital areas, but they don’t know when they have openings.”

Both seem sad to hear that.

That’s pretty harsh, but you can’t be soft if you’re going to survive on this island.

Both get up, look at each other, and jump down.

Then they start running around.

“Are they building up stamina?”

“They gotta run away from things stronger than them. Not having stamina is death.”

“But adult bloody wolves are strong, right?”

I remember Luna saying so. And she didn’t say that about emperor boars or shantak birds.

“They are, but there’s all sorts of things on this island.”

“I see. I haven’t seen any monsters lately except when I’m hunting, so can you tell me more about them?”

“Yeah, I was just thinking about taking a break.”

Elga turns back to his humanoid form, and sits down next to me as we watch Krr and Grr and he tells me about monsters of this island.
