I look at the mantichoras.
Monsters of this island are pretty smart, so even if it doesn’t understand our words, it must feel the mood around us.
It knows it might be saved, so it looks at Cara like it’s currying up her favor.
“I-it’s fine! I’ll take it as a pet!”
“Pet?”
I guess we have Krr and Grr as examples that it’s not impossible.
Still, Luna is overwhelmingly stronger than monsters, and she looked after them since they were babies.
I honestly can’t see someone with Cara’s power making a mantichoras obey her…
“Are you okay with that?”
I ask the mantichoras. It sees a chance to survive, and frantically nods.
It might work as a pet, if it feels a debt for saving its life. But I feel like Cara might end up being eaten in her sleep.
“Hm… Are you sure?”
“Leave it to me. I’m a nun, you know!?”
“I heard you just dress like one.”
“Who told you that!?”
Reina, Merlin… I don’t tell her all the seven great mages agree.
“Fufufu, I won’t let this chance get away.”
She says while touching the mantichoras.
I can’t imagine it will try to eat her in this situation, and it calmly leans towards Cara.
“I’m good at darkness magic, and that includes a vassalage spell.”
“Vassalage…?”
“Yes. I need the target to surrender and agree, but… Once it’s settled, there is no stronger magic.”
Dark magic energy bursts from her body. It slowly shifts to her shadow, and moves in the form of a cat.
“Will you be good?”
Normally, there’s no way someone like Cara can control a mantichoras.
Even Xellos would have a hard time in a one on one, and that’s after training on this island and getting stronger.
But I’m here. It can’t possibly beat me, so it has two choices, this or death.
Surely it will pick to follow Cara and survive, even if she’s inferior.
After seeing the monster nod, the cat shadow covers it.
It’s swallowed by the shadow, and eventually all that’s left of the shadow is a black mark that crawls over its body.
“Now you’re my pet. Kufufu, kufufufufu… Finally. Now they won’t look down on me…”
She whispers with a triumphant tone while petting its throat.
It looks like she really did turn it into an obedient pet.
I doubt most of the seven great mages can beat a mantichoras at this point. Edinburgh can, but other than her, maybe Reina and Zephir.
Arc and the others can probably do it if they fight together. That’s how strong this monster is.
“Wow.”
“You made this possible, Arata. I tried looking for weak monsters on this island, but they were all too strong.”
So that’s why she’s been walking in the forest alone.
She wanted to make weak monsters follow her, and after getting some decent numbers, she would conquer a strong one.
She was laying the groundwork to survive on this island, but she was at an impasse because she couldn’t do it alone.
“I’m surprised you survived this far.”
“Unlike all the other pushovers, I will lick my enemy’s boots if it means I survive.”
I can’t imagine that would help make monsters spare her but… At least she won’t let her pride get in the way of her survival.
I feel like this wouldn’t be the case with the other seven great mages, but she might take the initiative and do it.
“I’ll be nice to you, since you don’t look down on me like the others.”
“I don’t think the others do either…”
“No, Reina, Xellos and Merlin definitely do, since they got stronger than me. And I can tell Seti is making fun of me because he’s been training and got stronger.”
I don’t think so but… I can’t make her not feel that.
“Ah, that’s right, I have to name it…”
Cara happily gets on the mantichoras back, and starts mumbling.
“Do you know this monster’s name?”
“I’m pretty sure it’s mantichoras.”
“Then Chorus.”
I feel like she’s used to naming things, considering how fast that was.
It’s just a play on the name of the kind of monster it is, but it’s better than what Katima would come up with.
“Kufufu, with this, I can make other monsters obey me… And I will become queen of this island…”
“I don’t think you should think that way.”
I mean, this island has people like Wil and Suzaku. If you pick a fight, they’ll happily fight back.
Cara’s face twitches, most likely because she remembered that.
“…Yes, let’s not think about that. I should focus on building up my force…”
She says as Chorus turns away.
“Arata, I will thank you for this one day. Tell me if you need help with something! I will help within reason!”
She yells while making Chorus run.
As I watch her leave, I wonder what will happen to this forest. And I hope she doesn’t overdo it and has a painful experience.
