A house built on a precipice isn’t a sight I was used to seeing in Japan, but I’m sure that if I look at it from a more global point of view, there must’ve been groups of people that did that.
“Now that I’m getting a better look, it really is amazing…”
After escaping from the harassment of Katima’s grandma Saria, I’m facing this overwhelming sight.
The elder’s house is at the top, so now I’m looking down, and what I see is a different kind of incredible compared to the sight I saw from down there.
The rock face is mostly reddish brown, but people painted the places where they live white, probably to make them easier to see. It’s like everyday life wisdom on their part.
I see dragons on the small side up in the sky, flying around like they’re after prey.
Are they after the alfar?
“Now that I think about it, they’ve been there this whole time.”
Their high-pitched shrieks echo loudly as they bounce against the rock surface. I think they’re very weak compared to Tiltue the Bahamut, but how strong are they actually?
I get that Elga and the other divine beast people are strong. And I get that Suzaku and Wil are even stronger.
But I have no idea how strong the monsters living in the forest are. They’re all the same, weak.
From that same point of view, the dragons flying up there all feel weak too. But are they weaker than regular beast people? I can’t tell.
“Hm… I really don’t get this sort of thing.”
Look at Reina. She’s clearly strong among humans, but I have no idea what monsters she can fight.
I feel like that lack of knowledge is going to lead to something bad someday.
“Hn?”
Suddenly, a dragon circling overhead rapidly descends. Does it see me as prey? That thought pops into my head, but it passes right by me and keeps going down…
“Ah!?
“H-help!”
When the dragon comes back up, it has a small girl in its claws..
“Wai…!”
I can’t reach it, and it keeps going up very fast.
So it really was after prey.
The alfar girl desperately struggles, but both the size of their bodies and their powers are too different, so at this rate, she’s going to become that dragon’s meal.
I look down, and see her parents looking up with tears in their eyes.
“I gotta help!”
I quickly use my floating magic to chase the dragons.
They speed up, seemingly surprised that someone can actually chase the kings of the sky.
“You’re not getting away!”
The other dragons breathe fire, but I ignore it and press forward. Some look at me with eyes opened widely when they see me emerge unharmed from the flames, they’re not what I’m after.
“Give her back!”
I speed up and reach the dragon holding the alfar girl, and then smack it on the head.
It drops the girl, and I catch her.
“Kyah!?”
“Are you all right?”
“A-ah…”
It looks like she’s too scared to speak.
She has the same brown skin and silver hair as Katima and Saria. And this girl with all the features of an alfar is too stunned to speak.
“Gya!”
The dragons scream at me to try to get their prey back, but they aren’t getting close.
“I guess they can feel the difference in power.”
“Gya… Gyaa…Gyaa…”
Their roars sound weak. I get a bit closer, and they back away. Is their dragon pride preventing them from running away despite how clearly scared they are?
“Not that it matters.”
I glare at them, consciously putting pressure, and they all scatter.
“Uwah… I’ve never seen grand wyverns run away like that…”
“…So they’re wyverns?”
I thought they were dragons, but apparently they’re weaker.
It actually makes sense. Compared to the dragons I’ve seen so far, they do feel closer to the longer wyverns I’m used to seeing in games.
I slow down to not scare the girl any further, and slowly return to the alfar village.
I see the parents crying their eyes out, and other alfar consoling them.
After I land near them, I put the girl down.
“Mommy! Daddy!”
“Ahhhh!”
They’re overcome with emotion and hug her. I’m really glad I just happened to be outside.
“…I’m glad I made it in time.”
The other alfar also wipe away tears as they see the parents and child.
And then a young… Actually, when I think about Saria, who knows? Anyway, a man approaches me.
“Thank you for saving one of ours. You were brought here by Katima, correct?”
“Yes.”
“I see. We alfar see each other as family, even if we are not related by blood. You have my sincere gratitude for saving one of our family.”
He says, and the other alfar all bow at the same time.
“No… Raise your heads!”
“But… We chose to not see how you were doing because you came from the outside. And despite that rudeness…”
“That’s just because you couldn’t accept a human coming in all of a sudden.
Some people in the divine beast people’s village weren’t too keen on the idea at first either.
It changed after my sumo match with Gaius, who has Behemoth as his ancestor, but people weren’t too keen to stand beside me and smile at the start.
“So I’m not bothered by that. And Reina feels the same way.”
“O-oh… I wondered what rude people Katima brought along, but…”
Katima, apparently people were hiding because of you.
Just what kind of life do you lead here?
“Sir.”
“Hn?”
As I think about silly things like that, the girl approaches me with a big smile on her face.
“Thank you for saving me!”
“You’re welcome. I’m glad you’re all right.”
I crouch down to her height, and pat her head.
She looks happy, but also a little embarrassed.
And then I go back to the elder’s house, and…
“Arata, the elder is awake.”
“Eh…?”
Those words and Katima’s expression lead me to believe that there might have been some trouble.
