I’m going with a big ship big gun doctrine! Take aim at a slow life! ~I was thrown out into space, but I took over a spaceship by coincidence, so I’ll work as a mercenary while playing with the dirt.~ – Chapter 39 – Implant and really weak jelly

This is an era where interstellar travel taking ten days is normal, and humans’ lifespans have been extended to five hundred years. People mess with their bodies a lot, and while there are ones who prefer the natural way and are free to do so, it’s generally much more advantageous to mess with your body.

Recently I’ve learned that Saratha had a titanium spine put in so she could live without back pain.

To be honest, I’ve been relying on Tortilla Double’s specs in my mercenary work. If I can make a living slaughtering space eels and turtles, that’s okay, but that’s when I’m attacked in space by a dragon. Why? I need to get stronger.

I already have a translation implant, so it’s too late to act like I’m natural. I want to get more implants, but how, and what?

And so, at lunch today, Suzuri presented me with a plan to strengthen me, to which I threw a tantrum saying I wanted to do it myself. She told me to do it with Iris, so I’m in my room.

And Iris tells me once again that I need to be stronger.

“Yes, you are weaker than I thought. A really weak jelly.”

“Is that stronger than a slug?”

“A slug is stronger.”

I see… Let’s just state my wishes.

“Leaving aside whether or not it’s possible, I want to increase my memory capacity, because I’m at an age where my memory worries me. Next I want to speed up my thought process. I feel like it’s getting slower with age. And I want to move my body the way I want, like a pro sports player. Are there implants for that?”

The butler in the tailcoat sitting on my bed puts her hand on her chin and turns her head to the right.

“That’s too on the nose.”

“Hm, sadly. So… A learning support implant, brain optimization nanomachines, a mental operations implant, and lastly, composite nerve strengthening, reflex adjusting, and information processing support nanomachines… Will that do?”

I’m about to take notes, but Iris grabs the tablet I got for her and shows descriptions along with prices.

What I definitely want is the learning support and memory strengthening implants. Apparently that makes it easier to remember stuff. It’s also possible to deliberately forget things learned through implants.

The brain optimization nanomachines enhance the brain as a whole, and make it so waste products in the brain are precisely removed. I can even do it right after waking up. In theory, I could stay up for a hundred sixty-eight hours, it says.

The mental operations implant boosts thought speed, is all it says.

Composite nerve strengthening nanomachines spread throughout the nerves to strengthen them, and also heal. They can even reattach something that’s been cut.

Reflex adjusting nanomachines do just that, they regulate reflexes on the whole body.

Information processing support nanomachines minutely sort memories in the brain and reduce instances of misremembering things.

It’s amazing how the starting price is a hundred thousand puni. And I can get six for eight hundred thousand.

“These are all implants specialized for ship piloting and management, so while they do increase accuracy on foot, they will not boost your combat abilities, so be careful.”

“Hm… I guess it’s cheaper than I thought.”

“Master, please be aware that eight hundred thousand puni is what a regular salaryman in a colony makes in fifteen years.”

“Y-yes.”

But it’s cheap… It has nerve healing and stuff. A salaryman can get something dreamy like this in two or three years? If learning support implants existed on Earth, the gap between the wealthy and regular people would be deeper than the Mariana’s trench. Why did I wait so long to get it?

“Did the girls mention wanting these kinds of implants?”

“I arrived today, so you should ask them yourself.”

“That’s true. So should I buy all of these? And how long would the operation take?”

“There is an area in the Akul colony with the highest tech. You can order it to be delivered, and if you take it to a hospital, it should take less than an hour.”

That much? That much!? Leaving aside having to take it to a hospital, that much?

“In any case, we should show this to the ladies, and with their approval, we should also request the production of the shield generator. How about we ask them about implants?”

▽▽▽

“Hou~… There’s lots of them, but I don’t know what any of these implants do~. My body is built differently~.”

“You’re basically a slime core, uh…”

“I-I…! I would like a learning support implant! And an information processing support implant! And…! Others!!!!”

“Wah, it broke Suzuri.”

“I think she’ll cool down if I hit her. Should I?”

Can you not? I shake my head.

But she wants those two that much?

“With this…! I won’t misremember things! And! It’s known for making people notice when they do something like mess up where to input things in an exam!”

“Eh~… You don’t misremember things~? I want it too~.”

“Is there one for a slime core? I don’t see many implants for slime cores to begin with.”

“With seven million puni in my bank account, if you’re going to ask for implants, now’s the time.”

Saratha slaps me with her tail.

“Don’t egg Kori and Suzuri on. And isn’t that money to buy a mothership?”

“I’m saving money, but I want to increase abilities across the board too.”

“Master improving his abilities will directly lead to an increase in revenue. However, the ladies’ will be indirect, so I would recommend refraining from spending too much.”

“What!?”

“Oh well~. Only darling fights with the ship right now~. And Iris is here to gather information~.”

“What!?”

It’s getting kind of funny, but let’s not push too far.

“Hum, well. I guess we could get Suzuri a learning support implant and an information processing support implant for now. What else?”

“O-ooh… That will be three hundred thousand puni… If I had to say… The mental operations implant? But I do not think I would use it too much.”

“By the way, does Suzuri take care of inventory? Does Iris? Have you decided?”

“I will mostly do it, and Miss Suzuri will mainly be in charge of trade.”

I see. That’s too bad, but mechanical intelligence are on another level when it comes to management and memory…

“Yes, I don’t really know what effect it will have, but let’s get Suzuri a mental operations implant too.”

“Yahoo!!!”

“Wah~! I’m dancing too~!!”

“Do it over there, you’re raising dust!”

“Leave the dancing to me.”

Suzuri is excited, Kori is having fun, and Iris gets in on it and starts dancing. She’s doing the monkey.

“We should have music…”

“Don’t worry about weird things. If that’s settled, then are you leaving?”

“Yes. I’ll have Iris lead me and take Suzuri… What about you, Saratha?”

“I’ll take it easy and drink in the living room.”

She says while side-eyeing the social dance group and heading to the counter. What do we do about these people dancing like crazy?

Should I buy learning support and information processing support implants for Saratha and Kori too…

Ones for a slime core cost twice as much…
